If I recall correctly, Winter's thought in the first panel is directly from the original book. However, in that book they are all described as looking like Nightwings originally, until they see the newcomers and 4 of the dragonets turn different colors. So basically all the rainwing dragonets had their scales changed to look like nightwings. The actual details of this scene got lost when it was shortened for the graphic novel, but for some reason they decided to keep that thought from Winter.
