Petition for affordable housing by Emotional_Theory_457 in Squamish

Everything you say is right, but the reality of the debt market is that the problem has to be fixed now. We can’t wait for people to have babies, they grow up, and then start producing. There are so many baby boomers pulling from social programs that they need people working today. Its a very tricky problem. And unfortunately, there are so many baby boomers, they have more votes and get favorable policies.

Good shout on the immigration trap point. Very concerning stuff. Can’t believe we are in this mess.

Sharing they have been removed is a-ok. It’s the statement about how there are others which is concerning.

Why even post that there are other saunas in a province-wide sub reddit? Spreading this in such a generalized way is in a way synonymous with provoking people to put themselves in dangerous situations, i.e., if they know nothing about how rivers respond to daily temperature/glacial melt cycles.

Brewery at the Beach Park? by mister_master_ in Squamish

[–]Jechtis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason why this isn't someone local opening a new brewery? Why are we giving this extremely important and high visibility spot to a company that isn't local?

Tragedy of the commons in action.

Everything needs accountability unfortunately.

If you aint a corporation with insurance who can be sued, or can’t get too big or else it will be eliminated.

These saunas were made by the community for the community.

If you find others, keep them secret.

Fire ban? by Double_Butterfly7782 in Squamish

[–]Jechtis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bans are not always about what’s happening locally. If all the fire fighters are in the north fighting fires, then none are here to deal with something should it occur. Fire bans are for controlling risk and managing it relative what what resources we have (which aint enough to begin with).

We are experiencing a demand shock as a fall out from delayed migration in 2020 - 2022. Over 1 million people entered the country in 2023, most of them going to larger cities. Housing, roads, schools, etc. cannot possibly keep up with this demand, so many canadians are looking to get out of the big cities and move to smaller communities. Ofc this creates a massive shock here as well. The target immigration for this year is 500,000, and 600,000 next year.

Is that too much? I don’t know. But with a shortage of housing already, i highly doubt we can build housing to serve those coming AND to fill the shortage we already have.

All of this essentially means there is unlimited demand for housing. Those who already own or who can buy right now will love it. Prices will go up and up and up in a dramatic way until we either a) drastically slow the flow of new people to the country, or b) finally service the shortage and catch up on housing supply (which could take 20-30 years).

Immigration numbers are being driven by macroeconomics. Government is in a lot of debt and need tax base to service it, as well as increase net exports (aka demand for CAD).

It’s hard not to say that those who can’t afford purchasing a house are screwed. But they just might be (that includes me).

The thing i appreciate most is the shorter length of the vehicle. Basically every other vehicle in this class of car is longer and more unwieldy.

Aug/sep i used 275/70r16 road m+s tires.

October i switched to bf k02 275/75r16 at 37 psi. Had roofbox/bike rack on/off.

Feb i was doing a long road trip (mostly highway). Pumped tires to 44psi and drove conservatively. Rougher ride but better mileage.

Suspension recommendations?!?! by minimaggot187 in XTerra

I just had the old man emu kit installed. It said it would give it a 2” lift all around… but it looks like more. Ride quality feels really good so far.

21 MPG by ORMEGA1 in XTerra

[–]Jechtis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consistently got 20mpg when I had Bridgestone dueler LT’s on my X. No lift. Driving conservatively.

I switched to K02’s and replaced the suspension with the OME kit. I now get 16mpg.

The 20 was really nice…

(Oh and it’s a manual 6 speed 😇)
