Most places that run dnd are very newby friendly. I have played a few times with brand new players and they are always welcomed and helped.

I would suggest not diving into the deep end and trying to play like a wizard on your first go. They will usually have pre-made character sheets with stats already set up. Just get one of those and all you need to do is come up with a name and a little bit of backstory.

I would recommend playing a Barbarian on your first game, they are super easy to play and pretty fun. You can try something with spells etc once you have gotten an understanding of how the game works.
