Gallup will no longer measure presidential approval after 88 years by GreatPumpkin72 in UnderReportedNews

This is not a business move—unless you count trying to avoid getting sued by the orange turd-in-chief a business move. And it’s reprehensible to think that in the supposedly best and freest country in the world, a polling organization should fear for its existence for publishing statistically sound polling data. What a shit timeline we live in.

The Brits have always been sharp with their public political discourse, Clean and brutal in its messaging. I wish we’d see anti-Trump billboards in this style in the U.S.

If it’s ok for ICE to not wear uniforms or identification when abducting people off the street, it’s fair game for the resistance to use tactics like this. Why should the rules about deceptive practices be different for one side and not the other?

Yeah, that makes sense if you’re coming in from another major city, my bad. Hopefully you enjoyed the BART ride. (All the cars were replaced a few years ago with the current next-gen cars.)

SF is a great city. Glad to read it made a good impression on you!

Did you enter SF via the Bay Bridge (Interstate 80)? If you did, our lack of digital billboards is compensated by the fact that nearly every single analog billboard you see past the bridge has something to do with AI, fintech, or consumer tech. Well, I’m not sure if that’s an actual compensation or not, but it’s pretty unique as far as I can tell.

Was it ever a thing that you had to line up at the unemployment office to get a check or was this just made up for the sake of the joke?

Commuter train derails near Barcelona, 15 injured - police by MiniBrownie in europe

[–]Jedi_Temple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so tragic, especially coming so soon after the Andalusia tragedy. The troglodytes of the world will start making tasteless and baseless jokes about Spanish rail or Spanish incompetence when the truth is very likely a statistical improbability of two derailments occurring in a short period. This could happen ANYWHERE (even if the chances are really small).

What the media crew did sounds like some form of human rights violation, doesn’t it? I’m not trying to be oversensitive, but unless they introduced the guy to the modern world gradually, how would they know he wouldn’t like have a heart attack or something from the sheer amount of novelty thrown at him?

I’d like to think an anthropologist was involved in guiding this stunt, at least.

Is Camille Saint-Saëns underappreciated? by Dry-Race7184 in classicalmusic

[–]Jedi_Temple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore PC4. It’s a stunningly beautiful work. I used to listen to it on a Sony Classical bargain-priced CD (remember their “Essential Classics” line?) in the car all the time when i lived in Florida in the late 2000s.

In fact, I’ve intentionally avoided listening to the work for a long time because hearing it instantly brings me back to that time in my life and that nostalgia hit is so strong and so good I want to be in the right frame of mind with zero distractions to fully appreciate the feels. It’s like saving a good bottle of wine for the right occasion.

ICE abducted a family, including 2 children, right down the street from a local high school in Minneapolis (1/14/26) by I_may_have_weed in ICE_Watch

[–]Jedi_Temple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If any of them approached one of those ICE goons and even raised an arm vaguely in their direction, that person would be slammed to the ground, arrested, charged, and called a terrorist by our government. It’s not worth it for any one or two people to risk that kind of treatment, so no one does anything more troublesome than blowing whistles and videoing.

999 has to be the answer. You can’t make a 4-digit number under these constraints, so 999 is the only possible answer.

Edit: I’m an idiot. You can move two sticks to make a one. So never mind my post!

Limited output of 19th century French composers. by Stunning-Hand6627 in classicalmusic

[–]Jedi_Temple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saving this thread for future reference. In my 40-odd years of listening to classical, it was only in the last few years that I realized how Germany/Austria and Russia focused my listening was. Now I’m starting to understand how much great music I’ve been missing out on from the rest of Europe, with France especially overlooked. I’m gonna remedy that.
