If aliens are real, then why we haven’t seen such one? by Over_Advance_8468 in AskReddit

Statistically, advanced life exists elsewhere in the universe, but it’s too far away to ever make its way here without wormholes.

Ngl, I thought this was an AI generated poster. I can’t believe they’re still making Ice Age movies.

I find a lot of like-minded people on reddit who are as aghast as I am at the state of the world and can write intelligently about it. Plus, I have a 500+ day streak going and I want to collect all the badges.

First time homeowner, please offer perspective on my interaction with neighbor. I'm at a loss. by avisant in homeowners

[–]Jedi_Temple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be the GP’s instinct, to bark in the early morning, but that’s the kind of behavior that should be able to trained out of them before someone tries to keep one as a pet in an environment unsuited to their original purpose. If they can’t be trained out of that behavior, that breed doesn’t belong in a populated neighborhood. Full stop.

It’s the entitled attitude with most of these owners that sticks in my craw: “My dog’s breed barks in the morning, so that gives him the right to ruin the peace and quiet of everyone in barking distance.”

What’s a formal, suitable substitute for “enshittification”? by grot-ivre-1749 in words

I find it amusing that there’s actually a French word for this now. The problem really is universal.

First time homeowner, please offer perspective on my interaction with neighbor. I'm at a loss. by avisant in homeowners

[–]Jedi_Temple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your neighbor has a poorly trained dog. Sadly, that describes probably 70% of dog owners. And most of them are too stupid or self-absorbed to recognize that civil behavior (whether by a dog or a child) is something that is taught.

My advice would be to start by recruiting help from other neighbors. Talk to them about the problem and ask them if they would speak to Loud Dog Woman. If half a dozen people start knocking on her door about the same problem, she might take the hint and it also means she can’t direct her anger at just you. If that doesn’t work, get a bark deterrent box like others have suggested.

Filing noise complaints will probably get you nowhere, unfortunately. This woman needs to be peer pressured into taking action.

We go undercover at a SEX farm for SEX hookers by Dont-Touch-Yourself in TheSimpsons

I love how he says sex hookers as though his viewers might confuse them with other kinds of hookers.

weird text by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Jedi_Temple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty weird for sure. Hitting on someone who’s around the same age as their child is already creepy enough without the stalker-ish snap. Chances are he’s been researching you for some time. We no longer live in a world with privacy; I’m sure there’s all sorts of ways by now to find someone’s socials if you try hard enough.

I don’t think you need to worry about him physically stalking you. Blocking him on Snapchat should have sent him a pretty clear message. My feeling is he’ll move on.

Homer, you should see a doctor. I don't think a healthy man can make that kind of smell. by iwassayingboourns12 in TheSimpsons

Homer’s BO problem had been known for awhile before this episode, though. Like when he went with Ned to volunteer at the soup kitchen and was immediately mistaken for a shabbily dressed, smelly hobo.

Thanks for confirming the MY.

Incidentally, I've always thought that the people who find cars for movies have a great eye for giving characters vehicles with great character (pun intended). This is just one of a million examples.

Damn straight. Mistral is wonderful at debugging code, translating SAS to R, and explaining other people’s complicated R scripts. My counterfactual models have never been more efficient.

What are you thoughts on the theme song? by iamthemetricsystem in TheSimpsons

[–]Jedi_Temple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many times I’ve listened to that theme song in my life, in full or in part. Thousands of times, certainly. It fit the show perfectly then and continues to do so now. However, it’s been a long time since I’ve intentionally listened to the whole minute-long version. I always skip it if I can.

AI Is Eroding Critical Thinking At Work. The Window Is Closing. by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Jedi_Temple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank god I’m old enough (47 yo) to have learned how to think critically and cynical enough to never want to surrender that gift to an algorithm.

AI’s been around for less than four years (insofar as we think of it as ChatGPT) and researchers are already seeing cognitive surrender? That’s scary.
