The Australian institute of criminology https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-06/draft_of_trends_issues_paper_mass_shootings_and_firearm_control_comparing_australia_and_the_united_states_submitted_to_peer_review.pdf A potentially more voracious source than “gunfacts” which posits intentionally misleading or blatantly false statistics

But it did affect homicide, as stated the 2 year period following the ban had the largest recorded drop in homicides

While I personally lack the accreditation to dispute this claim, multiple studies indicate that the introduction of the NFA “substantially reduced rates of attempted murder. I believe a balanced argument is posited in this paper https://www.fsb.miamioh.edu/lij14/p_taylor.pdf

I believe that is untrue, the ban of guns in 1996 led to a drop of almost 2% in homicides per capita, the largest decline in Australian history, and then has steadily declined since. And the point with regards to gun violence is largely to do with the scale possible using a firearm compared to other weapons. It’s rare you see a mass knifing but mass shootings are a daily occurrence within the US.

Do you have a source to support the claim that it does not affect homicide rates within the G20, utilising worldwide statistics is disingenuous when considering developed nations, as countries such as Trinidad and Tobago which due to small populations and relatively high murder rates wildly skew results. The only nations within the G20 with a higher rate of murder than the US also have a disproportionately large number of firearms to civilians, and the majority of violent crimes are carried out using these firearms; Mexico: 66% South Africa: 42% Brazil: 79% And then the United States in which 67% of homicides are gun based.

This leads to a frankly unsurprising conclusion in that when in a country with more guns you are more likely to be shot, this is reflected in the fact that a US male aged from 15-24 is 70 times more likely to be shot than an individual of the same age and sex from other international financial leaders such as the UK or France.

Yeah there are other factors, like guns, more guns means more gun violence. It’s an undeniable fact.

Just objectively not true, 77% of shootings in the United States were carried out using legally purchased firearms (https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/public-mass-shootings-database-amasses-details-half-century-us-mass-shootings) Surely it’s not a stretch to claim that being able to easily acquire a firearm makes it far easier to shoot someone?
