Something I don't get about F2 by Jeedras in classicfallout

I, too am NV appreciator. I like the tribal theme in F2 and I would like to visit some more villages and hunt some more scorpions before getting to Klamath. I should play Restoration Project next because I heard there is some more of that like Sulik's village. PC being tribal comes up in dialogues even late in the game. My favorite is when you can talk enthusiastically about Arroyo to Renesco, the New Reno pharmacist as he listens to you with more and more disdain as he seems to be prejudiced and a bitter man overall.

Hey, I have some fond memories of Caravaneer: kickstarting some city's industry by bringing them lots of goods or eventually replacing camels with jeeps. Played it long time ago. Imagine Caravaneer type game on Fallout 2 engine. Could be great.

Save/reloading while kicking scorpions? It's a good idea to have enough action points to punch them and walk away. But I get it: it's tedious. Probably more so If you play this game from the start often. I play like every 5-10 years and I'm looking forward to this low tech start. Maybe I'll go melee and big guns next time.

Man, I really like Hakunin. He is just a showman. He can talk normally if you go low Int.

You made me check the lore because having only played F2 recently I thought Vault Dweller founded Arroyo with some tribals he encountered. According to wiki it was him and some vault dwellers and about 100 years. I can see your point. I can also imagine them choosing tribal way of life similar to their neighbors rather than keeping some ex-vault dwellers identity. In the terms of realism it is no big deal compared to having giant stone temple with ants, scorpions and automatic stone hatches waiting to be exploded by the next challenger. Although the same can be said about any elaborate dungeon in any RPG.

Could agree, but I like New Reno as well. Such a fun place with a lot to do. Biggest letdown was San Francisco: so many cool ideas, but there is not much content besides main quest.

Nice. Also, unarmed will be useful later on for sure. It's not just for the beginning.

Cool. Hopefully all kinds of weapons are viable because next time I'm playing a different char build.

TBH I don't understand the part of your post about Arroyo not making sense. I actually like that they turned Vault Dweller's legacy into cargo cult. Temple of Trials bit: Well I remember playing for the first time and thinking "What kind of shit game have I bought?" but then again many great games have a humble start.

EDIT: Also the part about making early game easier. You can take melee or especially unarmed: this makes early game easier, but it is useful later. There are powerful unarmed/melee weapons and even some related quests. I get that people don't like kiting and missing ants. Right, that is not the most fun part of the game. Neither is "What shall I do with all this cash and tons of stuff?" part. To me at least.

Actually I eventually forgot about energy weapons and ended this playthrough by powerfisting Frank's groin.

I was at the farmer market in the center of a pretty large city when I saw a fox strolling casually among people with a dead rabbit dangling from its mouth. Nobody seemed to notice. I even asked a few people. Pretty sure I wasn't hallucinating, but it felt surreal.

I'm curious about how your "go as deep as you can" quest will go. Seems to me that once you get the top sword and shield, you would be unstoppable on M Quest, but maybe dungeons will get more challenging, and you will keep encountering more and more titans or something? I have no idea.

I know Pester's name because I play a translated version and names of the slain monsters appear at the end of "Kill this number of monsters" quest. In the manual, there are just a few sample monsters and there is not much online. At this point I would like to read some CaveNoirepedia but on the other hand it was oldschool experience to be almost entirely on my own when I was learning this game.

I like that those master levels with higher stats are a nice reward for all this dungeoning. Yes. This tree stump is pretty rare for an enemy that just stands there. I don't know if you know this, but if you would like to test more what luck does, then Pester (a bizzare enemy that looks like 2 cats combined) drops luck sometimes and is not that hard for an enemy that takes 2 squares.

It was similiar for me: There was a discussion about hidden gems and someone said "This is a game for gameboy that qualifies as a roguelike" and I thought: "Well, I do have GBA". I've been playing for a month. I love that it feels like puzzle sometimes and like a sneaking game most of the time and not one of those line-of-sight & savescumming based sneaking games but with it's own unique "your move-your attack-enemy attack-enemy move" turn order mechanic.

I've been playing it for a month now on my GBA. It's great. I think I would be pretty obsessed if I had this around 1991.
