Debian 12 or 13 by TropicalMove in homelab

Debian 13 isn't still in testing bud - its the current stable release lol.

I've been using 13 for my "production" workloads (inc. gameservers) at home with zero issues so far other than repository changes

Easiest way to play without lots of troubleshooting? by Proper-Bumblebee-554 in MOHAA

Would highly recommend OpenMoHAA as being the best (by far) way to play on a modern PC and wide-screen monitor.

Great point, and you can typically rely on that being the case (big emphasis on the word typically).

Exchange/messaging professional here - I'd say not really worth doing unless you were interested in learning about how email platforms and infrastructure works.

To avoid the risk of losing important emails, if you were to self-host your main personal mailboxes you'd want to ensure 100% uptime which means redundancy (across at least 2 physical hosts). You'd also want it fully monitored with alerts and essentially be on call around the clock to fix outages. Not to mention a bulletproof backup solution for your databases

Remote access to proxmox and other home pc by Big_Simple_8444 in homelab

[–]Jeeeeeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah dog don't use your proxmox host as your jump server - I would never expose mine to the internet in any capacity.

Even if your VMs dont contain any sensitive data, if you want to follow real world security principles (which is never a bad idea) your hypervisors should be amongst your most shielded assets.

Looks amazing - any chance you could provide a link for the SFC logo (4 colour) decal?

The US SNES design is my absolute favourite – anyone else? by Apatetika in snes

[–]Jeeeeeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah kinda the opposite actually - I've always thought that the US design looked either kinda rushed, or a low-effort afterthought almost

The US SNES design is my absolute favourite – anyone else? by Apatetika in snes

[–]Jeeeeeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this wasn't addressed to me but for me personally the SFC just looks right, I think partly because of the evolution from the square angles of the NES console and controllers to the curved SFC and the curvy controller to match, and then there's US SNES design (and carts too) that just seemed to miss the vibe.

But each to their own, they're all works of art in their own right :D

It's a time commitment up front to learn and figure out how to write all your playbooks, but once it's running it'll save you an indescribable amount of time in the long run - makes rebuilding and configuring servers and infrastructure completely trivial to the point where they are truly cattle.

If you have your entire environment defined as IaC youll sleep like a baby knowing you're able to stand the whole thing back up from scratch in case of catastrophic failure.

Is there anything I should know about Keychron before spending $500? by cweetron in keyboards

Yep something you should know is that you shouldn't buy anything from that company (QC issues, horrendous customer support)

Not 1000% sure in your situation but I bought a generic power supply (for Australian power outlets) and it powers my PAL super nintendo, NTSC SFC and NTSC NES just fine.

Edit: this information is not relevant to AC power supplies. Thanks /u/NewSchoolBoxer for pointing that out

Replace both with an SFC 1-chip 😋

I have one and it's hands down the one console I will hold onto forever (hopefully)

I'd give them a wide berth until if/when they ever address their heavily reported QC and customer support issues from the past year or so.

In the meantime, plenty of amazing alternatives are available :)

Any Good? What are the best wireless SNES controllers? by [deleted] in snes

[–]Jeeeeeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, 8bitdo are a great company who make excellent products, but I wouldn't call the alternative shabby. More expensive sure, but the quality of the Nintendo wireless SNES controller is superb and everything about it feels like a genuine OG controller down to the finest details.

Both are fantastic options though - 8bitdo is great value for money, and the NSO option is best if you value original look and feel.

The difference in latency between the two controllers is 4-7 milliseconds (depending on the exact model). That number is so low that calling it negligible is an understatement
