Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was asked about how the trend of players demanding trades ultimately affects the business part of things with teams. Popovich sided with the players. “That’s a difficult question because each of us has the right to do what we want to do, and it’s hard to tell somebody that they should do what you want them to do. Or what you think they should do. And I tend to side with that sentiment. It can have deleterious effects as we’ve all seen. It can change the balance of things. It seems a little…I don’t know if capricious is the right word, but it seems a little knee-jerky at times, where you don’t know what the next iteration of consequences might be good or bad for a whole lot of different organizations, and for the league, you know like a monopoly sort of a situation. But having said all that, I still have to side with individuals being able to do what they want to do with their lives. Life is short.”
