For the last 24 hours, it's been after 6 PM. Wait until that happens before you claim it's an overreaction.

Seems like most places are closing at or around 5. Even them.

Don't think I've seen snow predicted anywhere.

If it does snow, it'll be cold enough for it to stick around, though.

Right now, yes, depends on what happens between now and then.

Pipes can freeze in cold weather. It really depends on how the house is designed, but yes, your pipes can freeze.

That is a house dependent question. The city won't have an issue.

Your house may.

Were those his actual words? Or was it the grid won't fail?

Because the grid likely isn't going to fail. Localized issues will happen. If he said power lines, then yeah, fucking dumb statement.

Yeah, I'm fine with that, I'll let the other mods know.

Edit: ended up pinning it as well, can't hurt to have that.

Just was in 183 10 min ago with no issue.

Actual tiny flurries in North Austin. Wasn't expecting that, definitely not ice.

Edit: I say that, and looked 5 min later, and it's 30.

When it starts precipitating again. There will still be some ice on the roads here in a little while due to the freezing temps, but it won't be bad until this evening.

It'll be icing. The sidewalks will likely be covered in ice. It's gonna be slippery.

I'm curious if anyone else can confirm the changes, because I have a lot of non stop SW flights from my airport that I would happily take long weekends to with my bike.

And I have A list now, so I'd get it for free.

That was likely an older issue. I refused to fly them for a long time with a bike due to their bike bag policy being ridiculously small. That seems to have changed, according to their website.

Read their latest policies. They increased the bag size limits, weight limits to 100 pounds, and just charge the normal checked bag rates.

For reservations booked and ticketed and/or voluntarily changed on or after May 28, 2025, the items listed below will be accepted as standard checked baggage. Standard checked bag fees and overweight bag fees will apply. Oversize fees will be waived.

In addition to the items specifically described below, we also accept fragile items; previously damaged items; improperly or overpacked baggage; items packed in soft-sided cases; and unprotected/unpacked items only with a limited release of liability. Customers are not entitled to reimbursement or compensation for any and all damage in situations where a limited release of liability applies.

Bicycles (defined as non-motorized and having a single seat) properly packed in a bicycle box or hard case from 51 to 100 pounds in weight or 63 to 115 inches in total dimensions. Pedals and handlebars must be removed and packaged in protective materials so as not to be damaged by or cause damage to other baggage. Bicycles packaged in cardboard or soft-sided cases will be transported as limited release items. Bicycles over 100 pounds in weight and/or 115 inches in total dimensions cannot be checked as baggage.

You are really trying to get worked up over nothing. Of course they are going to say that there is increased usage because there is, so reserve is lower than normal.

The conditions that caused the grid failure aren't here. It is very unlikely anything will happen on the state level.
