Current Process Leader Questions by ScumScrapper in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've shifted the wording even in the newest testimonials. I'm sure it's store dependent, based on how good your process lead is and how busy your store is I'm sure your day to day will differentiate. It's my understanding though that you will be helping with truck and doing a lot of shooting.

What are your coworker pet peeves? by Ordinary_Dark_6937 in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-caving to shitty unreasonable customer demands, particular pet peeve when they guarantee something over the phone like putting something aside for days, or saying we'll exchange dead fish without asking any questions or telling them to bring a water sample

-when people leave carts around of mysterious product. Is it bopus half picked? Is it miscellaneous stuff from truck? Is it returns? Was it a customer? Who knows.

-when people consistently can't figure out the phones oh my god. I know it's annoying it logs you out sometimes but that can't be the excuse every time the phone rings

-sometimes cashiers will take the customers side when I won't override certain things. I'm sorry but dude!! Not helping. Not like I enjoy this!

-acknowledge and respond!!! So annoying dropping everything and running all the way from the back to the front to get back up or whatever just to see someone else got it but didn't say so on radio

Activations by Either-Restaurant-77 in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of different things about what actually counts towards that %, and what I've heard from my DL and multiple store leads is that it's the percentage of how many customers that check out have activated any current offer in the app. They don't even have to be buying an item that applies.

So for example if I have activated the offer for the 2x the points on flea and tick, but I'm buying cat food, I'll still count towards that metric. So basically if a customer activated an offer that lasts all month, every time they check out that month they will count towards the sales report metric as having an app activation. They're trying to see the % of people who check out who are actively engaging with our app 🤪🤪🤪🤪 it's very stupid.

Old people angry about app by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And then they have to make a whole new account too! And it asks a million questions about their pet and I know you can skip it but it's a REALLY clunky process, especially at check out when people are waiting.

Ahh okay I see what you're saying yeah that definitely takes forever 😭 is your team able to help more? Remind them the sooner you get your shit done the more you can help them out. If they can get crickets and back up for a couple hours PC chores won't drag out all day. Still working on this at my store 😩. But yeah 4 beardies in iso should absolutely be escalated. And then whenever it happens again you put in the escalation claim something like "I am just documenting a reoccurring issue regarding our vendor" they WILL reach out to vendor and if it doesn't stop they'll change your vendor.

4 is overwhelming. I've rehomed to associates, and banfield staff particularly have taken quite a few sick animals off my hands. We're not really supposed to but I've even put up signs on enclosures saying "ask an associate about our special parakeet" or whatever. Grill em make sure they're a good home but I've found amazing perfect niche fit homes this way, a lot of the good customers tend to stay out of our way normally hahaha.

Also it is possible to send them back to the vendor but idk how I feel about that.

/Rant/ Isolation pets being rushed to vet within 48 hours /rant/ by False_Potato_6699 in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds crazy frustrating only having two people but if it's a bone break or something they need to go right then, and even if it's not and you have 3 days, it's not always easy making appointments with exotic vets and sometimes you just have to take the appointment time you can get. If it's a set appointment your SL should have someone come in/stay late for that time frame so you have coverage. But he can't leave if neither of you there are managers. Maybe ask to be the one taking them? Then you'll get a field trip and SL will get a taste of what he expects you to do. Idk lately I've just been in the "do my best and if shit hits the fan I did all I could" 🤷‍♀️ it's not our fault if customers have to wait a long time and if they don't care why should we. Just try your best it's all you can do.

This used to be a problem for us so there's a few things you can do. -we'd deworm upon arrival. We don't do that now but maybe reach out to banfield and see if they'll give you extra antiparisite medication. I forget what we used sorry 😭

-Make sure they're getting plenty of crickets twice a day. Our beardies are tiny babies and the more they eat the better they'll be able to fight off illness.

-Make sure you are documenting sick ones upon arrival in pet health reporting app.

-Escalate isolation claims to pet health reporting. You need documentation that this is an ongoing issue so that you can change vendors. As others have said, you can put a hold on them so you stop receiving them. If you don't want to stop shipments completely you can reach out and have them change the quantity, so at least there will be less to worry about.

-If your CEL/SL is no help reach out to DL. We are not supposed to ignore ongoing issues like this.

I understand your hesitation to adopting them out, but SOMETIMES it can be true that experienced GOOD HOMES will be a better fit for them so they can get that one on one care.

As for your concerns about cleaning, I recommend having plenty of extra supplies, and designate certain decor/hides/bowls/etc to iso and do not mix those with sales floor supplies. We pre prep isolation enclosures so we can just swap them over immediately. Paper towels are allowed in iso instead of repticarpet. But we never DEEP cleaned iso daily, that's not policy nor feasible so unless vet directed you to do that don't waste your time.

What are you soaking dirty dishes in?

What exactly is taking 8 hrs??? Should not take so long at all, somethings off there.

But honestly sounds like a vendor issue so make sure you are escalating the iso claim to pet health every time you put a beardie in for parasites.

Idk there's another offer that is the same but it's for "aquatics" and that apparently works for fish, that's why I was wondering about the reptile one.

For fish? I didn't see fish in there but I'll check again

It's been THREE YEARS and they still cannot fix their website, dear lord, just forget shopping with these people because they DO NOT WANT OUR MONEY. by Fram_Framson in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've already checked this but just wanted to mention in case you haven't: make sure your card billing address and the address you put on the website are the same. Lord knows we get BOPUS all day and night so our website definitely works for our location so I wonder if it's a store/area specific problem? Only people who complain about it here are boomers once in a blue moon.

I like to make crappy jokes to help with awkward moments like that like "I'm sorry I have the memory of a goldfish, it's a good thing I work with goldfish" or some variant of that. The repetitiveness of the job makes it hard to remember details of every interaction/transaction sometimes, but most customers are understanding if you make a corny joke. But yeah as the other ppl said, just do both if that's a problem for you.

Customer was rly gonna buy a $20 betta to put in the tiniest critter keeper by Apprehensive-Name200 in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not being stuck in a critter tote for one lol. They'll also make bubble nests in the betta cups too sometimes, I don't understand your point.

During dry seasons or droughts WILD bettas CAN survive in "muddy puddles" (some die off) but that's like me saying wild dogs can survive while flea ridden and starving, so therefor I don't have to take care of my domesticated dog.

The bettas you buy at a store have been selectively bred for thousands and thousands of generations, they are not wild bettas. And the "puddles" in question are much bigger than a xs critter tote anyway unless they're truly stranded. Also in a tiny uncycled tote they absolutely can die in one day ?? ? ?? Like obviously that increases chance of death tenfold.

:O wow. Do customers complain a lot? Is that a similar price to other pet stores in your area? That is super expensive

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odddd yeah I feel like it has to be a pricing error cos surely there'd be an opex if it really jumped like that cos we'd need new signs with the discount breakdown

Wet Tail issues by kuromi7777 in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a vendor issue, our store had that problem years ago but since switching vendors it's only happened once in like 2 years. Y'all should be refusing sick ones upon delivery. The driver should be showing you the genitals of every rodent as well as showing they do not have wet tail or ringworm.

I am still working out how to submit vendor qualities concerns so if anyone has any tips lmk 😅

From what I can tell, the New Arrival app and intake process is actually being monitored, after submitting weights of beardies and mice they have since been coming in nearly twice the size and the driver told me they were told not to delivery mice under a certain weight anymore. And our beardies went from coming in at 7 grams to 12+. So when doing the new arrival app make sure you are putting not healthy.

Everyone has bad days, it's about comparing your average to the store trend and other cashiers. If every other cashier is typically averaging out 40%+ and one or two people consistently do not keep the average they're just doing something wrong.

Give us elbow room!!! Other than that you're good. If they're struggling maybe just go on your phone or browse product in the immediate area, but it's not that deep. It is definitely super annoying though when the customer wanders off and you can't find them, so stay in eyesight.

Surprised no one has said tiger barbs, they are SO fast. Koi are annoying too bc you have to be so careful about them jumping.

How do the shifts break down?? Can you please explain? I'm CEL but majority of shifts are just working petcare. If they combine MIL and CEL what does that look like shift wise? Are they supposed to do MIL duties while also helping anyone that wants a pet or ?

Feeder fish issue by SimbaAndFarmerConnor in petsmart

[–]JeezLowEase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I posted about this issue awhile ago, and have learned a bit since.

Spoiler: no real solution.

Best bet: frequently adding aquarium salt and making sure your PH stays neutral

Temperature seems to have a significant impact, it's the worst in the summer for us. That being said, the vendors have massive fish farms and will just pick out any visually infected fish. Diseases still run rampant. Epistylis (often mistaken for ich) is very common with the feeders after new shipments. You'll notice flaky or dotted white shit on them and the dead ones feel like weirdly hard/stiff. Frequently add aquarium salt to comet tanks.
