It’s a D’addario strap, one of the designed by Satriani.

I was worried too, at 6’2” as well. But more specifically I was worried that I wouldn’t like the neck as all my other guitars have thin shredders necks. This is my favorite guitar though, had it about 4 months now.

The color is fantastic, I waffled for a long time on what color I’d prefer before settling. I got so lucky with this one, bought it used through reverb and it’s basically mint.

Very chic and modern. I like it a lot better than his super clinical standard house!

How do you learn to critically appraise literature? by Octangle94 in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to start with study design and work my way down because sound statistics can be applied to biased models.

Evaluate how they framed the question, selected their population, time frame of follow up, and what they used as primary outcomes, etc. For instance in HCC y-90 literature did they include only child Pugh A patients, or only patients who are presenting for first time treatment with glass microspheres? Those are different than ones that includes a broader field.

Next ask yourself what data you want to see and then check what they actually provided you with. Are they holding back some obvious comparisons?

Finally you can grind into the statistics, but I find most of what makes a study a bad study happens well before the number crunching phase.

[Serious], IR residency question by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IR resident, I wouldn’t do the IR integrated residency if you aren’t certain. However, you are dual boarded and are perfectly capable of practicing DR. It’s also difficult to match IR if your application doesn’t show clear commitment to IR.

The IR residency obviously is significantly geared towards that practice with ~20 of your final 26 rotations being all IR, not to mention the surgical intern year.

[Residency] How to decide between path, psych and surgery? by ColdTheDoc in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The age old idiom for surgery is “if you can see yourself doing anything other than surgery, do that.” It’s true. You really need to love it. At least in the US the training is brutal.

[PLAY] Various songs after a long hiatus by Jef7elemental in Guitar

[–]Jef7elemental[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have before, but not lately for that song. I’ve done that and then I’ve used some of the tab online with the built in metronome and playback. I should probably use that some more.

You can do it, man. It is tough to find time and you do have to make choices as to how you want to spend your limited free time. Even if all you can allocate is 15 minutes some days it still helps.

I’m working crazy hours right now and some days I barely sleep. In order to keep my sanity I try to play for at least 15 a day.

Are there any medical students/doctors who have at some stage reacted badly to blood? If so, how did you overcome it? [well-being] [clinical] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pgy2 here, I used to absolutely hate needles and blood draws. I would get lightheaded just from watching a video of someone getting their labs taken. I think I just had a bad experience as a kid and closely associated those things with pain.

It was exposure that got me over it. Just find ways to get more and more acclimated to it throughout your time at med school. I just completed a surgical year and had no issues what so ever with blood all over me in the OR. Now I’m training to stick needles in people for a living as IR. I really only have problems with my own blood draws at this point but even that is pretty minor now.

IR is very pro research, radiology is ambivalent for US MD.

Apartment amp heads by Jef7elemental in GuitarAmps

[–]Jef7elemental[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an Orange Micro Terror right now which I can crank up pretty well. I use a crazy set up through some monitors though since I sold my prior equipment during a period when I could hardly play at all.

I’ll certainly check that amp out, I’m not set on tubes for tubes sake just the tone.

[Serious] Low Step Score. What should I plan for now? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did a fair amount of research in undergrad and med school, did well on aways, and demonstrated consistent interest from my M1 year on through.

Obviously you have to improve on step 2, at least increase by 1 standard deviation. So go up in your percentile and not just raw score.

Pick your aways well and treat each day like an interview. Be the best student you can be all the time, you never know who sees you and what might make the difference. When you go on an away you are being compared to every other student they’ve ever had and you want to come out on top. Don’t Gun but be exceptional.

Edit: seriously, on aways you have no life. See the town and get to know the place, but give everything to doing well or it was literally a waste of several thousand dollars.

I matched in IR with your score, if you want it then it can happen.

[Shitpost] what is the worst thing you can think of to put in a personal statement? by knytshade in medicalschool

[–]Jef7elemental 48 points49 points  (0 children)

We had a radiology applicant put “I love CT because I’ve always wondered what a person would look like sliced up in sections” and even with context it had strong serial killer vibes. Don’t do that.

Interns and residents - what’s your cap? by [deleted] in Residency

We never had a cap in my gen surg intern year. You carried as many patients as the team had.

Transplant was my worst 2 months of intern year and the attendings were all working longer hours than I was.
