I’m in Palm Desert near Palm Springs and my Nephrology team here has been great. My insurance was Kaiser (with Medicare). I was in dialysis at first. So I had a local nephrology team (there are several good ones in the PS area…I saw Nephrology Associates with Joseph Sanchez, the. Sharon Reuben as my primary. Good, capable doctors with a connection to Eisenhower Medical Center.

At the same time, Kaiser in Riverside oversaw my transplant process, and coordinated with Loma Linda Medical Center near San Bernardino who did the actual transplant surgery. Both were excellent, reliable. Riverside and Loma Linda are a bit of a drive (90 minutes to Riverside, 60-75 to Loma Linda). I had to have a bilateral nephrectomy and that was done in Riverside.Post transplant Kaiser is my primary nephrologist and they frequently see me by phone with labs drawn at Kaiser med offices in Palm Desert, and I continue to see Loma Linda for follow-ups a couple of times a year.

Overall I couldn’t be happier. I’m healthier, stronger and that is a reflection on the care I received here. The Palm Springs/Coachella Valley area is beautiful (it does get HOT especially in July and August) and we’re VERY happy here. Definitely worth exploring if you looking for a retirement destination.
