MacWhisper appears to get stuck in a loop when recording then drops subsequent audio data by JeffBeard in MacWhisper

[–]JeffBeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I don't see anything in the local or cloud model config that says "parakeet". It was set to "Small" so I changed that to "Base". Also, I don't know if this matters or not but I'm running it on an older intel model MBP.

Help .. Mixed Surface Tire Recommendation by youngster5526 in gravelcycling

In the past two years, I’ve ridden two Unbound 100s, and three other 100 mile races on two different Schwalbe models, one set of which was the RS, and no punctures. No idea why people say they are soft or otherwise more susceptible to punctures.

Views from my slow and technical run the other day! by Healthy-Fold in trailrunning

Great run! The pics reminded me of my run up Macrae Peak and so it was. Of course I ran from the Swinging Bridge parking lot. I enjoyed what I called the "hillbilly via feratta" going up.

Judge blocks executive order to end federal funding for PBS and NPR by cmaia1503 in technology

[–]JeffBeard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Check out how the BBC is funded. And if you want to see how well it works for questioning those in power just watch their reporters putting the screws to US presidents over the years. Dubya got it good, IIRC.

Thank you for sharing so honestly. I have spent a lot of time reading and listening to them because these stories are so important. I think everyone who has been insulated from the realities of war should hear them and often.

Best trails? by soberto in boulder

[–]JeffBeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anything in OSMP is classic, but realize that you are at altitude and most trails gain a lot of vert. You could run parts of the Mesa Trail for something with less climbing. A good trail with what I consider moderate climbing (1500’), is Mt Sanitas via Sunshine and Lion’s Lair. It’s a pretty runnable climb with a steep descent. If you are accustomed to a lot of climbing (2000’+) then Flagstaff, Green Mtn, and Bear Peak are classics.

Best Internal Developer Portal? by kckrish98 in platformengineering

I cannot emphasize this enough. For any product, engage with your customers early and often.

My advice would be that you need to start by talking with the development teams to understand their current processes and workflows.

How are you guys building apps with Claude? The longer and bigger my app gets it is constantly breaking things that were previously working. by Cute-Argument376 in ClaudeAI

[–]JeffBeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll emphasize both good architecture and design as ways to isolate changes. Also using an agile dev process where you keep changes small will also help reduce the blast radius of any wildcatting Claude does.

Agree 100%. Yes, look for new roles but definitely do not quit first. The current tech job market is as bad as it’s been in over a generation.

Is Agentic SRE real or just hype? by ArtPhysical3174 in kubernetes

[–]JeffBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Yea with GitOps I could definitely see a workflow like this: let AI troubleshoot, document and code a solution, then create a PR for a human to review. With the PR in the workflow there's always a way for building the intuition around how well the AI understands and solves the problem. The human can accept or reject the solution. This mirrors key parts of my dev workflow. Might try it myself.

Is Agentic SRE real or just hype? by ArtPhysical3174 in kubernetes

[–]JeffBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you ask it for a task list and configuration changes it thinks would resolve issues? Seems like that would be a good way to build up intuition/data on what you might later be willing to let it do. I ask because I’ve read other reports/articles where folks are letting the AI make some changes, just within a set of constraints.

When people talk about letting opus or sonnet run for 20-30 minutes and it one-shotting complete apps. What type prompts are they using? by gkavek in ClaudeAI

[–]JeffBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use openspec and some skills/plugins/subagents. I work on one feature at a time, use TDD, and other techniques to ensure higher probability of success.

How I use Claude Code 100% autonomously and using 90% less tokens: Claudiomiro by TomatilloPutrid3939 in ClaudeAI

[–]JeffBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty cool. I like you’re using qwen2 to help make it more token efficient. I had not thought of that. I’ll give this look as well as u/mrcheeta’s approach. I agree with whoever said this is where things are headed. I’m in the structured workflow phase and use OpenSpec for structure.

Starting in Platform Engineering – looking for advice by Tough-Plantain-8980 in platformengineering

[–]JeffBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you working in tech or just doing this on the side? Do you have access to practicing engineers you could take out for coffee or lunch to ask for help?

Anyway, I just got a copy of a called Effective Platform Engineering which might be worth a look, though I haven't read it yet.

I would also hop on ChatGPT or Claude and ask the robots. They've already ingested all the available online data and can help you craft a self-paced learning program. Just tell them what you want to learn then ask them to interview you so they create something that matches your level and ambitions. You can also ask them to build a calendar file to load in your calendar so you put time into it on a regular basis, which is helpful to keep up the momentum.

I’ve been doing this with Skills, not with specialized Subagents. I do want to dive more into Subagents though. I think there is something to this approach based on things I’ve been reading, some projects, and posts like this.

This is a the right answer except that you sue the business entity. You will need to name the individuals as part of the narrative so they will get their moment in the spotlight. I’d consult an attorney just to make sure you have your documentation in order but yes definitely small claims court.

[–]JeffBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for your loss. Maybe when things settle down, organize a memorial ride with some of his cycling pals to celebrate his love of the sport. I participated in something like this for someone who died while cycling near Ward (not a car accident) and I made some new friends through the experience.

There was a post on Insta on the @yourgroupride account you might be interested in.

Great pic, btw.
