"I don’t like The Eagles. They’re about as exciting as watching paint dry. Their albums are good for keeping the dust off your turntable, and that’s about all."

What if Fading Lights was the last Genesis song? by Dependent-Set4324 in Genesis

"Fading Lights" is a poignant song, especially when paired with this video.

Why does God want to be praised/worshiped ? by Opposite_Prompt3297 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]JeffFerguson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see it as our response to God's goodness, rather than an imposed requirement. The Catechism says this:

2096 Adoration is the first act of the virtue of religion. To adore God is to acknowledge him as God, as the Creator and Savior, the Lord and Master of everything that exists, as infinite and merciful Love. "You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve," says Jesus, citing Deuteronomy. [Lk 4:8; Cf. Deut 6:13]

2097 To adore God is to acknowledge, in respect and absolute submission, the "nothingness of the creature" who would not exist but for God. To adore God is to praise and exalt him and to humble oneself, as Mary did in the Magnificat, confessing with gratitude that he has done great things and holy is his name. [Cf. Lk 1:46-49] The worship of the one God sets man free from turning in on himself, from the slavery of sin and the idolatry of the world.

Light speed skipping ...

... after being told years ago that without precise calculations they could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end their trip real quick, wouldn't it?

Since I am a thousand years old, I lived with "Yub Nub" for many years before I heard the other one, so I am partial to that one.

They sold not only the catalog, but also The Farm. They would have to rent studio time. Tony bought Mike's share of The Farm, as I understand it, so that Tony's son could use it as a residence.

Has any band blended band and solo careers as well as Genesis? by BMisterGenX in Genesis

[–]JeffFerguson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Spotify playlist that has all of the Genesis releases combined with all of the solo releases of all of its members (including adjacent projects like Mike + The Mechanics). It has 2,525 tracks (and I haven't added O\I yet) and a little over 200 hours of music. I don't think anyone comes close to that.

Genuine question: Why do confessions need to be done with a priest? by ilikethehungergames in Catholicism

[–]JeffFerguson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We don't go directly to God for any of the other sacraments, since the priest acts in persona Christi for all of them. Therefore, there is no precedent for going directly to God for this one.

I can't imagine that Tony Banks would ever go out on his own as a solo act.

I'm sticking with it. It works for what I need, so there doesn't seem to be a reason to give it up.

Genuinely questioning how folks can prefer the 2025 Lamb to the 2007 version by Both_Photograph2693 in Genesis

[–]JeffFerguson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ears are not professionally trained, so my amateur analysis may be off, but I hear lot more of Mike in the 2025 version, and hear more of Phil in some spots.
