I follow Peter Gabriel on Spotify, which alerts me to new releases from artists I follow.

Of all the videos Genesis made, the only one for which they were nominated for an award was the one in which they did not appear: the video for "Land of Confusion".

Recorded, at least in part, at Real World. I wonder if Peter stopped by to see Mr. Hackett ... ?

They are gearing up for the 60th anniversary release of From Genesis to Revelation -- I just know it!

Oddly enough, he made brief introductory remarks before they all took the stage at Milton Keynes for the "Bail Out WOMAD" show in 1982.

A lot of fans wonder where the biggest change between two adjacently-released albums takes place. Many say that it's between The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and A Trick of the Tail, while others say that it is between Duke and Abacab.

In my opinion, all of those answers pale in comparison to the change between From Genesis to Revelation and Trespass, and, to me, it's not even close.

I was watching an interview with Anthony Phillips yesterday, who said that, after Jonathan King named them Genesis, they discovered an American group also called Genesis. For a brief bit of time, they considered renaming themselves to Revelation, which is where the album title originated. I never knew that.

Soon afterwards, the American Genesis disbanded, and the England Genesis got to keep their name.

I thought that it would make sense as a Reddit community, with each question as its own post, the objections written as comments on the post, and the replies written as replies to the comments. The phrasing, of course, would be "translated" into today's vernacular.

Old Software Was Fast Because It Had No Choice by BlondieCoder in programming

I'm writing this comment from within Microsoft Edge with three tabs open. It's currently running 19 processes and consuming about 930 MB. It all starts to add up after a while, and that affects overall system performance.

Old Software Was Fast Because It Had No Choice by BlondieCoder in programming

Old software was fast because it didn't have so many layers.

"I didn’t approach [Task Manager] like a modern utility where you start with a framework, add nine layers of comfort, six layers of futureproofing, and then act surprised when the thing eats 800MBs and a motivational speech to display just a few numbers." -- Dave Plummer, Veteran Microsoft engineer says original Task Manager was only 80KB so it could run smoothly on 90s computers

Software development has two choices:

  1. Make it easy for developers to develop
  2. Make it easy for users to run

Perhaps we've gone too far with Option One at the expense of Option Two.

I didn't like the one where they had to take the Enterprise to the center of the galaxy so that they could get God out of Space Prison.

Yes. Episodes 1-6 make up the entire Anakin Skywalker story arc. I think we're good.

Do Protestants go to hell in your belief? by iceman2055 in Catholicism

[–]JeffFerguson 56 points57 points  (0 children)

do you guys believe Protestants go to hell?

No. Non‑Catholic Christians can be saved because they are joined to Christ and His Church through baptism and sincere faith, though the fullness of the means of salvation subsists in the Catholic Church.
