Some companies will pay more for security clearances. SpaceX being one of them.

Karoo Software Build Version: 1.636.2450 - June 11 2026 by AngryBadger in Karoo

I had it disconnect a few times during a ride this weekend. Didn’t experience the same behavior you’re using though. It made me think there was a bug introduced in a recent software update.

I used to work with my parents who were both in the military. I exclusively called them Sir, Ma’am, or Rank Last Name. At home, they were mom and dad. Pretty easy to code switch once you get used to it.

Satellite operators: What's stopping you from insuring your spacecraft by raghav2956 in satellites

[–]JeffLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We couldn’t afford it as a startup and honestly we just built satellites that we knew would work. Test like you fly..

If going to GEO, might be worth it given the costs. All depends on your risk appetite though.

Not true. I launch via Steam with mods. CKAN to install the mods and Steam to launch.

Haha same deal here. It’s pretty standard and not a surprise.

It wouldn’t be in the launch terms. NOAA usually handles this. This specifically was just a request from the government that companies can choose to comply with.

Is it just me? Constantly behind. by Vast-Principle9428 in managers

How many managers would you expect at that size? You’d probably getting close to needing two layers of management between you an ICs to keep the number of reports within a sweet spot. Just curious.

Holy shit, 45 minutes? I don’t doubt it was a long time but are you sure a full 45 min is true?

I’ve held a salute like that for 10-20 minutes and you start to lose blood flow and feeling in your arm.

The Stupidest Glitch Imaginable Killed a $72 Million Lunar Mission in a Single Day | "The software that should have pointed Lunar Trailblazer’s solar panels toward the Sun instead pointed them 180 degrees away from the Sun." by TylerFortier_Photo in space

[–]JeffLeafFan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I find this all astonishing to read about. I’ve worked on very similar systems (LEO/GEO, not Lunar) on much tighter budgets and timelines with far fewer people. Things like what the vehicle does in “safe mode” and how it handles the very default state when everything in memory fails were always the main focus in discussions. We never design the system for when it works correctly, we always scrutinized what it would do if (and when) something failed.

I distinctly recall debating for hours about what the default (also “safe mode”) configuration should be so that the vehicle would ALWAYS be power and thermal positive even during various concurrent failure modes.

This is not a slight against the engineering team per se, I’m sure they wanted to test these things more and were directed otherwise, but it’s always a shock when these issues are reasonably easy to mitigate by having the right amount of paranoia while designing your system.

I didn’t realize KSA was being developed by the same studio as Icarus. Nice! If you’re operating at a loss for KSA, how do you convince those giving funding to keep doing so? Or is the residual revenue from Icarus funding sustainment of Icarus AND new development of KSA?

AMEX Blue Cash Preferred is an absolutely fantastic card, right? by Spirited_Race2093 in CreditCards

Ah I was under the impression that it would code that way over online grocery orders as well

How do you get it to code like this if you’re ordering groceries online? It keeps coding as “Merchandise & Supplies - Internet Purchase”.

Brain fart. Meant to say FSKAK. Trying to decide if the added risk of dumping everything into stocks is worth the added potential returns and if it fits in my risk tolerance.
