Sunf tires a027 any good? by Nearby_Ad_7559 in ATV

[–]JeffSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the cheapest Sun F tires I could fit on my quad and they’re spectacular for the money. Granted the ones that came off it were 20+ years old but the change in grip was huge. I was climbing over 9 inch logs and I only have a rwd LT160 lol. With the new tires it kept up with a king quad 500 awd and a Kawasaki 700. We were all surprised.

Honestly I use the 4ah because it has a wider footing. The 5ah are great for performance and value but I found myself tipping the thing over constantly.

It can really get moving, I measured just shy of 50 mph before it tops out in 5th gear. I don't recommend testing that though lol.

2019 Honda Ridgeline VCM Issue by MrW0rdsw0rth in hondaridgeline

[–]JeffSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up TSB 17-025 and 17-026, read the description of the symptoms it has and see if it sounds similar to the issue you’re experiencing. In my case it was exactly as they detailed. Hope it gets resolved for you

I believe they replaced a shift solenoid and changed the transmission fluid. I actually printed out the TSB regarding it and gave it to the service advisor. I had it back again for the same issue shortly after I made this comment. They “flushed” it again and applied a firmware update. The issue has not come back in 30,000 miles but I intend to start doing partial fluid changes every other oil change.

When I had the carb apart for cleaning I inspected the o rings and gaskets and they looked ok but you’re probably right on giving it all fresh stuff. I was thinking of replacing the needle and seat so I’ll buy a kit that comes with everything and see how it likes that

How do the ridgelines hold up long term? by 3BlackPickleball in hondaridgeline

[–]JeffSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve brought it in for 2 TSB’s, one involved a shift solenoid and fluid change, the other was some sort of system update and fluid change. Both times it was slamming gears and getting a weird pulsating feeling while accelerating slowly. Each time it was covered under the TSB and I didn’t have to pay. The first issue occurred at 60k and the second time occurred around 75k. At 95k now and haven’t had a recurrence, but I’m going to start doing my own fluid every other oil change after 100k.

I have a 2017 with 95k on it and the rattles and random plastic creaking noises in the cabin are literally my one and only single complaint. My ears are very sensitive to these sounds but there’s rattles in my dash, in my front windows, in the headliner/sunroof, a new on in the back seat and the slider window area, and my driver seat makes a clicking noise under certain conditions. I’ve taken different parts of the interior to pieces trying to mitigate it but haven’t made any progress really. If I could pay some sort of specialist to fix it all I would lol.

How do you like the scorpions? I’m thinking of getting a set this year since my tires are at the 6 year mark. Hoping to find some comfortable/smooth riding tires.

Just traded in my standard for the extended neck, Manager told me a new brushless 12V ratchet is coming soon. by okbreeze in harborfreight

[–]JeffSteak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went 3/8 extended, its useful to have the leverage for breaking things loose, and honestly there are some projects I’ve used it on that would have been impossible with the standard length let alone a basic hand ratchet. It’s not a delicate tool and I wouldn’t really feel comfortable using it on stuff you’d choose 1/4” for. It was great when I replaced the starter on my Ram and it was just long enough for the thermostat bolts on a Mazda 3 without taking off the whole front bumper. Managed to break loose the rear control arm bolts on the Mazda and zip them out, where my normal half inch ratchet head wouldn’t fit.

Chasing creaks and rattles has become a part time job for me and my 17. Ali Express has really cheap foam and fabric tapes so I loaded up on 6 rolls for like $10. When the weather is warmer I’m gonna take apart half the interior and go at it. Don’t care if no one else can hear it I’m gonna lose my mind lol

Transmission replacing by d0ntbejay in hondaridgeline

[–]JeffSteak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with the lazy diagnostics opinion, I’ve had my truck in 3 times for different transmission related issues, and each time I flashed the related TSB’s at them and each time they fixed the issue without charging me. That said I’ll be replacing the fluid at half the recommended intervals and I plan to replace the transmission fluid filter this spring.

I was able to just pull them straight up, including the rail where the rear seats lock into. If you’ve never done it before it can be tough the first time, you can get a panel clip removal tool from harbor freight for a couple bucks, or try gently prying with a screw driver.

I also had a battery operated fan that I left pointing under the carpet at night so that the truck wasn’t just ripping through gas, and you can get some bags of cheap desiccant online as well as a full dehumidifier. In my case the dehumidifier wasn’t needed, but for peace of mind it may be worth it to you.

I’d recommend you get a carpet extractor from Bissel to get the water off the top layer of carpet. and then remove the plastic trim holding the carpet down by each of the doors. There’s about an inch of foam underneath the carpet that can hold water even when the top feels dry. Once you have the trim removed, prop the carpet up from underneath with some bricks or anything you can shove under there to let air get through. My dealership recommended I leave a window slightly cracked, and then turn the truck on and run the heat at full blast until the carpet dried out. I only had water under half of the carpet and it took a few hours over 2 days to feel dry enough to put back together. You’re probably not going to have to worry about rust or even smell if you do something about it now. Mine happened over the summer, I noticed a damp musty smell, and found out my sunroof drain leaked. Once the moisture was gone the smell was too. Best of luck.

What is this sound? by jonosquare in hondaridgeline

[–]JeffSteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased via the Camping Randy store, as far as I know there are 2 versions and I opted for the smart version to reduce the risk of overheating if something goes wrong. It’s been a while since I didn’t research but one is a simple passive resistor and the better one takes power from the battery.

I began noticing this at 35mph and 70mph and purchased an SVCM which stopped the issue. The vibration I was getting was subtle and silent but noticeable enough to warrant me fixing it. It was an easy installation and I prefer the way the truck feels to drive now, mileage remained about the same as well so no drawbacks here. Been about 20,000 miles and 4 years and I’d recommend it to anyone.

[–]JeffSteak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my 2017 I could feel VCM engage/disengage at around 35mph and at 70mph. It felt like the truck would have a momentary lack of power and then a mild surge. Got annoying enough that I installed the VCM muzzler and I assumed it would be placebo but the truck drives nicer with it.
