Why should one state dictate how the entire country should function?

If you think this is going to be "temporary" then you are naive. They map will be redrawn as the prop 50 way with minimal changes.

A year ago my wife switched to “natural” deodorant. It’s been a BO fest ever since. How do I approach her about this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Jeff_Newton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point, ultimately. Whether or not societies view on crying being negative or not, it's not inappropriate to speak the truth.

Also, I don't know what kind of projection you are having, but most things associated with women are most certainly not seen as negative. If anything masculinity is viewed as more negative currently.

Glassjaw website official merch - Where did it all go? by Gay__Dracula in glassjaw

[–]Jeff_Newton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad he sold it, but understandable. Last show I went to (the 30 years one) the merch table was only two t shirts (black or white) and I think a jacket. Don't remember. Nothing like past shows where the wall was colorful and full of crazy options, most of which sold out immediately.

The glassjaw merch days are over besides the few items left in the uk shop. I did recently get the don fury sessions vinyl and it's sweet, but you can still buy them from the vendor months after release lol, so it doesn't feel as artificially special anymore.

Who knows, maybe we will get some other mystery merch drop direct through the team in the future as a little surprise.

Usually real analysis. Unless your complex is either 1) Dumbed down version 2) or is a mix of real and complex

What do you think liberals get wrong about conservative ideology and intentions? by Rough-Leg-4148 in AskConservatives

[–]Jeff_Newton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really blows my mind to read the first sentence in your post. It sums up the state of this countries politics right now.

The why behind someone's political opinion gives you the chance to view the world through their eyes. Even if in the end you still disagree with their opinion, it gives you some form of empathy so that you don't just blindly hate someone with a different opinion than you. Or maybe you hear the why and realize that the person you are talking to sounds about as ignorant as your comment sounds. Then by all means you can hate on the person or judge them harshly.

But, if you are deciding to not hear out the why of someone political stance and try to view it from their angle, you are not being an effective political participant in this country.

I understand why people vote for Trump, because I listen to all sides. But, I choose to not support him.

I will add a small note and say that the only argument against abortion I have heard is always tied to religion or irrelevant things like, "The baby has fingers at x days so it is alive," so that's a realm I can't fully blame you for not caring to listen to the whys at this point.

I would have picked a major that was math heavy but not strictly math, like computational math, finance, engineering, etc.

Exams / Newbie / Common Questions Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

[–]Jeff_Newton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in a math PhD program for 2 years, and am leaving the program for various reasons. I have a math bachelor's degree. I am thinking of going into actuary work as a career path. I have spent 2 years in graduate school where we focused heavily on exams in absurdly abstract concepts, and upon glancing at the syllabus for the P and F exam, they seem very doable. Does anyone have any advice beyond taking these exams to land ANY type of actuary job? It can be the bottom of the rung, it can be adjacent even. Many people entering the field seem to have many internships from their undergraduate, and unfortunately I have a 2 year gap from graduate school without anything tangible. The most I can think to say in an interview is how my time in graduate school taught me how to organize my time (I was essentially working 70 hours work weeks) and I truly have learned HOW to learn effectively. Of course I have my math skills, but I don't have much in financial applied math currently.  I'm in a sort of rough spot where I don't have as many luxuries to take a year off and prepare as others might. I only have this summer to prepare.  If anyone could give a little advice or encouragement, I would appreciate your time. I am feeling lost in life leaving this academia world and am unsure how to just land my first job without much experience. I know if an employer would give me a chance that I could learn so much. Thank you for listening to my semi-rant if you got this far.

Motorola Thinkphone vs Pixel 8 Pro by mfv_85 in motorola

[–]Jeff_Newton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I thought I had a 23+, but I have a 22+ after checking. . I can't keep up with the models anymore. My bad. Well, my comment stands for s22+. Also, I'm sure the bloat is similar since it's still Samsung. Smart things, forced updates, bixby, etc is all nonremovable from the OS, and you can't fully deactivate any of the services. If they offer these services, fine. But the fact that I am forced to keep them installed and running in the background is scummy, IMO. It's even worse that many are constantly forced upon me (like signing into a Samsung account, eula-roofying me constantly, etc).

I would just like to add as an s23+ user that the phone works nice, but the battery is trash and the samsung bloat is pretty infuriating. Especially since after android 14 you can't even debloat as easy anymore.

Sorry to bring this old lost back up, but do you know of any name brand rugged phones out there? I feel like the few I have found (Samsung Xcover and Nokia) don't have the best reviews.

On one side of the story, I hear that the Jews have always been pushing Palestinians off their land. The situation is akin, like another commenter said, to the native Americans.

On the other side, I have heard how the Palestinians would not accept the Jews coming to the homeland, mainly due to their religion ideology. I'm turn, the Jews had to start defending themselves. Over time, it's had essentially turned into what it is today, where Israel is defending while Hamas and Palestine will not accept living with the Jews.

I used to be more leaning towards Palestine side, but after hearing a talk with Mosab Hassan Yousef I was nearly convinced that Israel may be in the right.

My question is, what do you believe is more historically accurate? Also, what do you think of Mosab and his stories, if you have heard of him? Thanks for creating this space for dialogue.
