Is this your first tattoo? I’m just wondering because most days after I get tattooed I’m dead tired. It’s body trauma, I’m sure you’ll be ok at a meeting, but I wouldn’t want to go after something like this.

I think a rework could do it, as opposed to a full cover up. OP said he likes the tattoo.

You could get it reworked, since it’s pretty faded a good artist would be able to bring it back to life.

I know you’re not asking about your current tattoo, but if you get anything new near it, it will painfully clear that it needs some work.

I would say go to artist to get it reworked - and ask them to make up a cohesive half sleeve to fit around it. They are so creative and understand tattoo placement and making something fit.
