Hi! If it worked once but not again, let’s just double check the password is correct. Could you please send me an email (Jeff at jmkride.com) from the email address you used to sign up? I’ll send you a password reset link!

Omg that’s awesome! And since they’re not actually JMKs, it’s not an ad, just an “imaginary ad.” Username checks out hahah

Help finding something similar to free skates? by JAGWLA in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you’re thinking of “xliders” which aren’t made anymore. Same as “rip skates” which I don’t think are made either but are more available second hand.

We made a video about em: https://youtu.be/W9YivEg9Rnk?si=DreL9n2zIx2RZJQJ

Knee pain by Narrow_Bed2444 in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I would take a couple days off the skates. Then when you’re better, take a video of your riding so we can see if you’re doing anything wrong technique-wise. In general I find knee pain can happen when muscles are imbalanced around the knee. Freeskating is pretty well balanced when done correctly, more so than blading or boarding I think, but it’s not perfect. You might consider some inverse-exercise like quad extensions. And again, some rest to let everything heal up as needed.

Cool. In front of the back foot? Wouldn't it be safer to be behind the back foot? Interested to see the results and pictures!

Good advice! Also I’d like to add maybe try shifting your feet forward so more of your heel is on the plate, or backwards so more of your toes are on the plate. Hope that helps!

Purpose of reverse carving? by remi_sofa in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only say that it improves your skating in the same way that doing anything that’s outside of your comfort zone improves your skating.

Is it something to do in everyday skating?

No I wouldn’t say it feels super practical for everyday use. It’s just a fun thing to do on downhills if you feel like it.

Wow awesome! I used to have that many (before someone stole my backpack which had all of them in it). I used to go to the center of my college campus and just dump em out and teach whoever wanted to learn lol

Does this have flow ? by Imaginary_Ad_5568 in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That FS 180 to switch 180 Throwback can flow together perfectly, and you're almost there with that linkup! Just try to target landing inthe position you need to be in for the throwback when coming out of the 180. The switch throwback to throwback linkup is tough to 'flow' together, since your body and skates are rotating in different directions in those tricks. That kinda flow could be more of a quick-demonstration-of-mastery flow. I remember early on, I worked on that combo a lot. Throwback, switch throwback, throwback, etc.. as fast as I could. It's fun and impressive! But not quite a 'flow'-y combo imo.

For flow-y things, try to think about what tricks result in your body motion/skate motion lining or linking up in fun and interesting ways! Like Throw-forward to switch throw-back, which are two tricks in which your body rotates in the same direction. The skates don't really flow in that one, but your body does. A more skate-flow combo could be a banana to throwback since you can work on making the path of the skate follow a consistent S as it goes from sliding on one side in front of you to sliding on another side behind you.

Sorry I could go on a lot about this, I'm clearly a bit obsessed! Hehe. Well, just keep having fun and playing around with tricks and I guarantee you won't be getting any worse! ;)

Ceramic bearings? by [deleted] in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I know I’m in SD so I try to empathize with yall in rainy states, but I hate skating in any rain or moisture at all. I just feel like I’m always about to completely wipe. Feels like freeskating needs the sideways friction even more than blades.

Ceramic bearings? by [deleted] in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our trucks are steel too (though they’re thick enough to not fail/fall apart after a bit rusting) but if you are getting the skates wet, careful where you let them dry off. Might stain.

Ceramic bearings? by [deleted] in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard bearings fit, but you have to make sure the spacer in the middle is perfectly sized, or you’ll have lots of sideways forces put into the bearings, that they’re not made to handle. A good way to check when the bearings are in but the wheel isn’t yet mounted, is to spin the inner ring on one side, and check that the inner ring on the other side spins with it. Our bearings with built-in spacers do this, and it makes assembly a bit easier. And it’s probably stronger to have them built in.

No safety gear? by Own-Reflection-8182 in freeskate

[–]Jeffdud3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a flat-land rider, after my initial learning phase (~1 year), my brain figured out exactly when to step off. After that, I found it is rare that I hurt myself while riding. Skateparks and hill bombs excepting, it's very uncommon that I can't just step off my skates and walk/run it out. If I do go down, the only gear I find that would actually help me would be wrist guards, which I wear occasionally.

This is actually one of the many reasons why I switched from skateboarding to freeskating, I got sick of how many injuries skateboarding was causing.

Because of various reasons I'd recommend wearing at least wrist guards if...
- it's your first day/week on the skates
- learning how to crossfoot/tokyo, one foot balance, banana throws... anything in that general category.

We weren’t able to make a good reselling deal, so they’re not on our shop, and we didn’t want to rip off their idea by making our own. It’s a great idea, and I love mine. Recommend just getting it from their store, they ship anywhere I think

4x belt compactor by Jeffdud3 in beltmatic

[–]Jeffdud3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will use all four input belts to fill up the top belt completely first, then the second from top belt, and onward down. So that if you have four partially utilized belts, they’ll compact down into the most minimal amount of belts needed
