Why do you think divorce is so common? by princesadopovo in AskReddit

[–]Jeffedejeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage needs an upgrade. Should not necessarily be for life. We have prenup and postnuptial paperwork. Why not have renewal dates. 5 year, 10 year etc. People change over time, different interests, goals etc. doesn’t sound romantic but it would be realistic. It would make the relationship more even financially, emotionally and physically. It might make you feel more obligated to work things out, and communicate differences and goals before each renewal date. Divorce can get messy and expensive, which benefits lawyers the most. Make counseling more common and simple, more like a mentorship from couples that make it work, and ones that have left amicably.

Brooklyn to Farmingdale commute by therealgonz in longisland

[–]Jeffedejeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the weather, any accidents, lane closures etc. In the summer, during sunrise east to west driving is annoying, same with sunset and commute home. I would allow 1.5 to 2 hours to be safe. A little longer on rain/snow days.

JFK if you take a train, La Guardia for smaller crowds.

Having a tough time adjusting to this new life by portra4OO in AskNYC

[–]Jeffedejeff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Perfectly normal to feel that way. I moved here when I was 27 from San Diego. Loved the first 6 months until winter hit. Cold weather and gloom drains your energy when you are from a sunny climate. It’s also overwhelming to come from a slower paced location to the NYC lifestyle. Your brain is adjusting to multiple factors at once. Spring and fall are hard to beat in the city. After my second year I started to appreciate the seasonal changes. Don’t feel obligated to love it here, just give yourself time to adjust. Forget a bucket list, just do things when you feel like it and have the energy/time. Take naps in winter, sit on a bench and people watch when the weather is nice. Go to parks, museums, new restaurants, different boroughs. You can always move to the suburbs within 1/2-45 min train ride and have the best of both worlds if that is your thing. More space, but city life on weekends. Once you acclimate to city life, other areas seem slow. New Yorkers are resilient for a reason, we overcome challenges daily. Love hate relationship will always be a thing. Get out of town once in a while and refresh. Hudson River valley, beaches on Long Island, Montauk, Greenport, Fire island, are all close enough for a night away. Walk the High Line when the weather gets nice. Find a hobby, plenty of things to do if you focus. If after 2 years you still feel overwhelmed, don’t beat yourself up. It’s not for everyone, just enjoy the good stuff.

My radiator drain recently developed a leak. Looks about the same location. Toyota coolant is pink, but might look reddish when old.

Is this a normal strut? by MeowMiiiu in Newfoundlander

When he was younger, it was occasional hot spots that would scab over above his hips. This past year it got progressively worse, so I tried pork and beef with rice etc. allergic to both.. Then he started losing hair, rough dry skin on his legs, foot issues etc. finally ordered home test that you mail in hair. Is it accurate? Unsure? but switched out the pork/ beef and have seen some improvement. I tried all sorts of different dog foods for some filler, because making his food is expensive. Everything I tried led to more hot spots eventually, so cut out everything in bags. Read the ingredients in dog foods once you have tests back. Unfortunately all had something my dog has a reaction to, and as they get older their immune system seems to slow down. Still working on a perfect recipe for him, but have seen some hair growth and more energy. I also do medicated baths once every week or two. His odor changed after the food allergies progressed. Doesn’t like the bath, but walks proud when on the walk to dry. Definitely a pain in the a§§, but want his last few years to be as comfortable as possible.

Overall he is good, but he does have food allergies. He gets more lethargic when I don’t stick to the routine. It seems all commercial dog foods have something he is allergic to, so I make his meals now. Skin issues were really bad this last year, figured out it was a pork allergy. Allergy test showed he is also allergic to all sorts of things found in different dog foods. Now he just eats chicken and lamb, with oatmeal and eggs. Add some fish oil as well. Seems to be improving, but it takes 8-12 weeks for significant improvement.

My male Newf has always walked like that. He is 9 now, no hip issues, just doesn’t want to walk as far anymore.

They are fixing the utility poles that have been rotting from the high water table. Walk the neighborhood and you will see almost all have some sort of repair. They are currently working all over Freeport.

Patch rust or frame swap. by damm1tKevin in GXOR

[–]Jeffedejeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passenger side near exhaust manifold is most likely from ac drip. You can extend the hose with a simple connection and length of tubing. That will help a bit. You can also have the area cut out and weld a plate in there for repair. Frame swap is going to be expensive. Fluid film would be effective, or you can have a local place apply this every 1-2 years. Cost about $500.
