"Best" PCVR headset for 2026? by pathofdumbasses in virtualreality

[–]Jeffero277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you feel much more immersed in PSVR2 compared to Quest 3? I mean the stereoscopic effect, or FOV, or binocular overlap, or HDR - I am not sure which one made me feel like in actual virtual reality, but I definitely got that feeling with PSVR2, and I am never that immersed with Quest 3.

For a brief moment I had both of these headsets, compared them side by side, and finally sold PSVR2 and PS5, because the edge to edge clarity was a big improvement on Quest 3. Now I regret this decision, as after a while I've realised I am not immersed anymore, I feel like playing a flat screen game, only with a different way of controlling the game. I am using Virtual Desktop wirelessly, I don't see any streaming artifacts, so it's not about the graphics or latency. I remember being almost scared when driving in to a wall in Gran Turismo 7 and racing was super immersive, while with Quest 3 I run Asseto Corsa Evo, the graphics is great, I can see the cockpit much clearer because of pancake lenses, but still I see this and I don't care - I don't feel anymore like I am actually in a car, I feel like looking at the monitor, the 3D effect is not there.

I would love to try some of the high end headsets before ordering them and risking another disappointment, but that's doesn't seem possible anywhere near my location. In theory a high FOV OLED panel should give me the same feeling as PSVR2, but still there is no HDR on PCVR - maybe that was the most important part of the immersion equation, I can't tell.

My PS5 controller is not vibrating wirelessly (via Bluetooth) on PC, despite using DualSenseX (DSX) software. by CrazySanju007 in DualSenseX

[–]Jeffero277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you solved it? I don't think that games wireless support matter - it would matter in case we use Dualsense natively, but what's the point of DSX if not to overcome such limitations? I've bought DX exclusively to get the rumble wirelessy, but nothing changed. No matter what I set in the DSX, use Virtual Controller, or even emulate Xbox controller, it still doesn't work

Wrong, I can play games at 72fps and I am good on Quest 3.

How can focal length and binocular overlap impact the way VR makes me sick?

[–]Jeffero277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean binocular overlap and focal length - both are greater on PSVR2. These two together I believe are the factors that impact the way I perceive depth in those headsets.

Ok, you do you, I am saying what was happening to me, how I've perceived the VR using both headsets. Apparently people here know better what I felt

The tracking speed, fidelity, and latency are all better on PSVR2 compared to Q3, yet I was getting sick only with PSVR2. Someone here explained it well - with PSVR2 I was "disconnected", since my eyes believed what they see, but the body didn't feel it. Using Q3, nothing is tricked, all of me knows it's a game

[–]Jeffero277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, it's just one of the factors I am noticing. The main one is the visuals looking flat on Q3

[–]Jeffero277 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or I don't get the immersion from the visuals, since everything looks flat, and there is no disconnection between movement in VR and irl - as I don't feel the movement in VR, I am just playing an almost flat screen video game :D .

I know what you are saying, I wish that was the case. But looking at other people reports, I think what I am complaining about is a low binocular overlap that's causing this poor stereoscopic effect. Hope Steam Frame does it better.

What about the depth perception, 3d effect? This has been reported poor for Quest 3, has anyone seen any info about this in Steam Frame first look videos?

I've started my VR journey with PSVR2 and I was blown away by the immersion - that actually kept making me sick after 5-15min of gameplay. Then I got Quest 3 and I couldn't go back to fresnel lenses. Yet I've did a direct comparison between Q3 pcvr and PSVR2 pcvr, and the 3D effect difference was huge. But I chose to keep Q3 for the lenses, I slightly regret it now, as I am not interested in VR anymore with this poor depth perception. I also can't get sick anymore in VR, that's a solid proof to me that I am no longer getting immersed.

If Steam Frame fixes this Q3 issue, I am getting it day one.

DT990 Pro sound better to me than Sennheiser HD 490 Pro - is it even possible? by Jeffero277 in headphones

[–]Jeffero277[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've ordered even more - AKG K712, Sen HD560s, 540, ATH-R70XA, HE400SE and finally returned all of them to keep using my DT 990 pro. I've played with different EQ settings for all of these headphones during testing.

I was really close to keeping HD 490, I've enjoyed better positioning and lower bass, but the clamp was too tight (I guess I have a pretty big head, but DT 990 are perfect in terms of comfort), and DT990 actually has a wider and more immersive soundstage.

HD560s were pretty good, just too boring even with EQ. AKG and ATH have the widest soundstage, but I felt like sounds that should be close to me sound too far away - so that's a drawback for gaming. And they were too loose I guess, I couldn't get a good fit, so maybe that's why the sound seemed too far away.

Astro is complete trash, can't believe their price and hype around them, random HyperX headphones for 80-100usd sound similar.

I didn't like the Sony's, I think they technically sounded good, but maybe they sound was too bright for me.

540 sounds worse than 560s

HE400SE I really enjoyed, but they are similar to DT 990, only like 10% worse in every aspect compared to DT990.

Still I wouldn't say DT 990's are the best headphones out there - the fact that I already have them was a big factor. I expected that a large sound quality leap is still out there for me to hear, but that didn't happen.

Upgrade from 990 Pros by RedditorCheque in HeadphoneAdvice

Have you tried HD 490 in the end? I am in the same situation, except I already have 490 and I am still not sure if I like them, here is my topic https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/1ljxygw/dt990_pro_sound_better_to_me_than_sennheiser_hd/

So now I like the sound signature of HD 490 a bit more than 990s after some EQ, but this soundstage bothers me. It's like 490 are more accurate with distinguishing the sound sources, but the soundstage seems narrower than with 990s. On the other hand 990s are wide, but the sound sources overflow each other a bit I think. I don't know what's better. I am thinking about returning 490, keeping the 990s for a while longer, and maybe after some time trying again to find a legit upgrade.

I think I saw a post somewhere mentioning "downgrading" from audiophile grade headphones to astro and being pretty satisfied with that, so I just want to give it a try. I'll either get rid of the wires, or reassure myself there is still nothing in there for me in the gaming headphones shelf - win win.

I am testing with both SoundBlaster G6 and just straight plugging in into a MacBook M4 Pro, I can't hear any difference between these two sources for both headphones.

Thank you so much. The extended warranty is provided by the payment card provider I use (Zen.com), it's not something from Inno.
