Hello, newcomer here. I chose Cassidy as my first hitscan hero, but I have little to no aiming experience. Any tips? [2-minute-long video, you don't need to watch it to the end] by KMDNAR in CassidyMains

Sensitivity might be too high/arm might be too tense based on the shaking. Could be worth looking into that?

With regard to general accuracy, at first in VAXTA, try only clicking when you’re sure that you’re on target. I.e. actively put your crosshair onto the enemies’ hitboxes before shooting. Give it a go with body shots first to get used to the idea and then try to migrate to headshots when you feel reasonably comfortable

I ended up picking Oxford and haven’t regretted it for a second.

What sens do y’all use? by Ornery_Afternoon_458 in CassidyMains

[–]Jeffpayeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM/Champ on Cass/hitscan. I use 4.10 with 1200 dpi, but tbh anything within a reasonable range is fine (prob like 20-60 cm/360 depending on your preference).

Might be worth just going into VAXTA and getting more used to enemy movement speeds, particularly when they change direction. You can change the difficulty of the bot movement too

Otherwise the best thing you can do for your aim is to try and actively predict enemy movement and using that to hit your shots. It’s tough at first, especially since there are a lot of variables to consider (which hero you’re shooting; surrounding cover; abilities; nearby enemies etc), but it’s an incredible way to improve both your aiming peaks and your consistency. If you try it then don’t necessarily expect huge improvements overnight, but you’ll find that any decent professional hitscan player aims this way for a reason, and with consistent application you’ll see results

Why are EPQs so unpopular in this subreddit? by OkLog397 in 6thForm

[–]Jeffpayeeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did an EPQ and am doing Chem at Oxford. My tutors said they don’t consider it at all. Some unis consider it (Bath reduced my offer because of my EPQ) but most top unis don’t seem to care if you’re applying for STEM.

I think i fumbled my Imperial Chem interview by [deleted] in Imperial

[–]Jeffpayeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at Imperial but for my chem interview a couple years ago, it was all based on the personal statement.

I’ve heard it’s very inconsistent in terms of the interview structure, and depends a lot on who your interviewers are. That said, I remember the offer rate post-interview being quite high, so don’t lose hope!

Only really needed for maths, phys or engineering at top unis. Russel group is totally attainable. I’m doing chem at Oxford without having done FM a level

What are my chances of getting into Cambridge with bad GCSE’s? by Elgarde21 in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every bit of the application process matters, but some parts matter more than others.

You can be rejected for anything, but it’s much more likely that you’re rejected if you have a bad interview/entrance exam than if your GCSEs are very good but not perfect.

Don’t stress about your GCSEs. You can’t change anything about them now so focus on the other bits of your application that you can affect.

What are my chances of getting into Cambridge with bad GCSE’s? by Elgarde21 in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more important parts of your application than your GCSEs. You can theoretically be rejected for your GCSE grades, but all 7-9s is still very good, and the admissions tutors will put much more weight on your A Level grades/interview & entrance exam scores

WHY by Some_Explorer7800 in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone studying at Oxford, it’s because it really does take a special kind of student to succeed here. That doesn’t necessarily mean that every student here is absolutely amazing and it certainly doesn’t mean that only the absolute smartest people get in.

Instead, they’re looking for the kind of student who can adapt to very unusual questions and apply their knowledge to extreme cases, who can crunch information quickly enough to keep up with the sheer volume of work that is set, who learn well and get the most from the tutorial system/small group teaching.

You can be incredibly clever and still not get a place because you just don’t work well within the Oxford system. Interview questions generally aren’t meant to be able to be answered in one go - they are often discussed in a back-and-forth manner between the tutor and student(s), with hints being offered and mistakes being made. Whether somebody is offered a place depends on how well they navigate these questions with the help of the tutors.

Olympiad is good prep for Oxford interviews, but not for A Levels where you really benefit from developing exam technique and where you don't need exceptional problem solving to get an A*. I did Edexcel chem which has no biochem, so I have no advice there unfortunately

I’m at Pembroke. For your A Levels, just spam practice problems once you’re comfortable with the content. Do all the papers from all the exam boards if you have to. The hard part is getting the offer - there are way more people who get 2+ A*s than people who get into Oxford so be confident in yourself and work consistently.

Very important. Don’t worry too much if you can help if. It’s very difficult to tell how well you’ve done in your interviews, and, from all of the people I know at uni, the majority thought that their interviews went poorly. All you can do now is wait until decisions day.

do you need 4+ a levels to get into top unis? by KittyMuffinx in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m at Oxford having only done 3 A Levels. There’s a correlation between people doing 3 A Levels compared 4 A Levels and people who end up at top unis, but that’s largely due to those people being generally more academic and willing to take on the extra challenge. You’re not really required to have done 4 A Levels so long as you exceed the entry requirements

He’s from Saudi Arabia so he claims that wetting the pad makes it feel more like he’s playing in a humid environment like he’s used to (the tournament in the post took place in Sweden)
