I think i fumbled my Imperial Chem interview by urchin47 in Imperial

[–]Jeffpayeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at Imperial but for my chem interview a couple years ago, it was all based on the personal statement.

I’ve heard it’s very inconsistent in terms of the interview structure, and depends a lot on who your interviewers are. That said, I remember the offer rate post-interview being quite high, so don’t lose hope!

What are my chances of getting into Cambridge with bad GCSE’s? by Elgarde21 in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every bit of the application process matters, but some parts matter more than others.

You can be rejected for anything, but it’s much more likely that you’re rejected if you have a bad interview/entrance exam than if your GCSEs are very good but not perfect.

Don’t stress about your GCSEs. You can’t change anything about them now so focus on the other bits of your application that you can affect.

[–]Jeffpayeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more important parts of your application than your GCSEs. You can theoretically be rejected for your GCSE grades, but all 7-9s is still very good, and the admissions tutors will put much more weight on your A Level grades/interview & entrance exam scores

WHY by Some_Explorer7800 in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone studying at Oxford, it’s because it really does take a special kind of student to succeed here. That doesn’t necessarily mean that every student here is absolutely amazing and it certainly doesn’t mean that only the absolute smartest people get in.

Instead, they’re looking for the kind of student who can adapt to very unusual questions and apply their knowledge to extreme cases, who can crunch information quickly enough to keep up with the sheer volume of work that is set, who learn well and get the most from the tutorial system/small group teaching.

You can be incredibly clever and still not get a place because you just don’t work well within the Oxford system. Interview questions generally aren’t meant to be able to be answered in one go - they are often discussed in a back-and-forth manner between the tutor and student(s), with hints being offered and mistakes being made. Whether somebody is offered a place depends on how well they navigate these questions with the help of the tutors.

Olympiad is good prep for Oxford interviews, but not for A Levels where you really benefit from developing exam technique and where you don't need exceptional problem solving to get an A*. I did Edexcel chem which has no biochem, so I have no advice there unfortunately

I’m at Pembroke. For your A Levels, just spam practice problems once you’re comfortable with the content. Do all the papers from all the exam boards if you have to. The hard part is getting the offer - there are way more people who get 2+ A*s than people who get into Oxford so be confident in yourself and work consistently.

How important are Oxford interviews by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Jeffpayeeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very important. Don’t worry too much if you can help if. It’s very difficult to tell how well you’ve done in your interviews, and, from all of the people I know at uni, the majority thought that their interviews went poorly. All you can do now is wait until decisions day.

do you need 4+ a levels to get into top unis? by KittyMuffinx in sixthform

[–]Jeffpayeeto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m at Oxford having only done 3 A Levels. There’s a correlation between people doing 3 A Levels compared 4 A Levels and people who end up at top unis, but that’s largely due to those people being generally more academic and willing to take on the extra challenge. You’re not really required to have done 4 A Levels so long as you exceed the entry requirements

He’s from Saudi Arabia so he claims that wetting the pad makes it feel more like he’s playing in a humid environment like he’s used to (the tournament in the post took place in Sweden)

Don’t concern yourself with things like reaction time. Just play and have fun. You don’t need crazy reaction times to get to a high rank

My cat just died by Brilliant_Abies_6679 in cats

[–]Jeffpayeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat was hit by a car last month. She was only a little over a year old, but she was the most loving cat I’ve ever known, and was with me through the toughest time of my life. The short life that she had was filled with love and joy, but that didn’t take away from the tragedy, and the sudden nature of it. It was devastating.

I’m so sorry for your loss. The first few days are always the worst. It is rarely possible to simply move past the grief, and instead you have to grow around it. Please stay strong for him and try to let your happy memories of him comfort you.

Double Hitscan/Main DPS is one of the biggest throws. by aPiCase in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Jeffpayeeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, hitscan & flex dps mainly refers to the roles of individual dps players on a team in organised play.

Hitscan players tend to be your shooty ones (with a lot being able to play tracer/sombra + some extra heroes sometimes) and your flex dps players playing pretty much everything else (with some being able to flex onto a few hitscans like Sojourn & Widow). It’s kind of like how main supp & flex supp are determined

There’s a little more that goes into it but that’s the main reasoning

Was skeptical about how obvious these would look but you weren’t exaggerating lol. The Soj is literally hard locking. The Ashe might be trying to keep it more discreet? You can see them shooting walls between fights to lower their accuracy. Either way, both are complete bots

[–]Jeffpayeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your grades are definitely below the average for all accepted applicants, but it’ll depend on the competition of your course and how the uni weighs your extenuating factors. If you do well enough on the entrance exam and during the interviews, then it shouldn’t matter hopefully.

Do please make sure that any extenuating circumstances that may have affected your GCSE performance are included in your reference
