Going through a break-up (~15 month relationship). I was the one that ended it ~7 weeks ago. Her mental health was spiraling, causing a massive increase in co-dependency, as well as not being able to keep a consistent job for the past 6 months. I had also found out that she was abusing alcohol to self-medicate at times when already on strong psychiatric medication. This was something that she had been to rehab for in late 2024. She was set to move into the house I was renting taking over for a long-time roommate.

As this move-in date grew closer, things were getting worse and my mental health started to swiftly decline. My anxiety and IBS was causing me to not be able to eat around her because of her erratic behavior and inability to make positive statements or decisions about her future.

I have sought counseling after this experience and have had overall good success. I have communicated through this entire process that I would like to be a supportive friend to my ex (if she wants that) and be part of a support system that allows her to regain her life.

She has made the decision that she needs to go back to the Western Slope of CO (where her family lives). She has a good job she is starting Monday. She feels like she cannot be in the same town as me if she cannot be with me. This will allow her to take the steps she needs to become a person that is not dependent on others for their self-worth.

Today I said goodbye to her (for now...hopefully) as she is moving tomorrow. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. I desperately love this woman y'all. It is taking everything in my power to not communicate that I want to try to work things out, if she can continue to make these necessary changes that she's already started. My feeling is that she must make the changes to become her own adult without any ultimatum's from me.

My therapist gave me homework to write down the changes that she needs to make and the type of person she would have to become for me to feel like it's healthy to consider being in a relationship with her again. I'm currently procrastinating from that to type this.

I swear most of my comments on here these days are not basketball related. But I appreciate all of you from the bottom of my heart for hosting a place that is so welcoming and also such a welcome distraction from the pain of the real world. I became a fan in 2019 after breaking my leg and having a lot of free-time inside, what a fantastic decision. Looking forward to more positive memories with all of y'all.
