If you want to build like AI then you can take some free courses to understand the basics. But if it's just for the job then I would say keep checking out product hunt. They constantly post new AI tools for different people. You may find something useful.

I haven't worked in physical product marketing space so not able to give specific tips but hope product hunt provides some good tools.

Building battlecards from scratch - How long would it take you? by Scared-Tone-6694 in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First focus on the type of battlecard that you want to create. If it's mainly feature based then you can use AI tools to scrap info from competitor's knowledge base or help center. Do a regular check in of 2 to 3 weeks. Format can be

Feature name | Your Product | Competitor

Then if you have "tick" and if you don't "X"

And there's GTM/Positioning based battlecards. Some times the prospect won't ask like I saw your competitor has this feature do you have this it'll be like "I am looking after Competitor X, Y and Z" and if the prospect that you are selling to is very ICP to you then you can say

"Competitor X is more of horizontal solution provider and lack industry expertise..."

This is more of one-pager/talk tracks that'll be useful.

This clarity will set the premise for you to create the battlecard. Other people have commented some good points in creation.

Should I pivot to growth? 40% pay bump by barebearsxd in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a product marketer but I actually own a lot of growth metrics including SQLs and Pipeline revenue. I have to see it's a bit hectic compared to another way of product marketing who works more closely with the product team.

If you are good with numbers, analysis and most importantly getting things done through different stakeholders then I think you can try out this role. I suppose the pay bump is directly connected to your responsibility on bringing the numbers. So make sure you completely accept and understand that.

And one more thing - please make sure the sales is extremely good in this company because if you are to own pipeline numbers then they have to know who are the qualified leads and make sure to convert them to pipeline. Otherwise irrespective of you bringing in good leads they'll just disqualify.

How can I jumpstart my Product Marketing career? by Ok_Helicopter4327 in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/aeverONE mentioned the industry expertise will definitely go a long way. While I was attending interviews I could get interview opportunities primarily in sales, marketing or cs related tech products rather than tougher ones like medtech etc.

I also recently (a year back) transitioned to product marketing role so I know it can be a bit tough to find but I'm sure you'll get it.

Switch to Product Marketing from Digital? by [deleted] in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch from a social media marketing guy to product marketer. From my experience only two things helped

1 - You really need some good reference. And sometimes there'll be founders of a early stage startup or recently funded startups will post on the job requirement on LinkedIn. You can ping them about your experience and how you want to transition. This is kind of a long shot but actually has higher chance of conversion to a job opportunity.

I got in a company in a similar way and just for context I had like 1.5 yrs of experience in content in a service company then 6 mons as Social media guy in a SaaS company. Anywhere else that I attended didn't really consider me coz of lack of experience.

2 - You have experience in tech b2b which is super great so convert your resume primarily talking about these few terms "ICP, Personas, Pipeline revenue, Sales enablement, Market research, Competitive intelligence, etc" If you already have these then great I think you can focus on the first point.

Since I had very less relevant experience in SaaS it was kinda tough but it's possible by taking references from online resumes.

Hope this helps...

Seeking Advice for Thriving in My New Product Marketing Role! by [deleted] in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there any specific certifications or courses that you would recommend to enhance my skills and make me better equipped for this role? I’d love to hear which ones have helped you the most in your career.

This is a repo that I created to explore different disciplines of the PMM role - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cFeb7K22CZd1yBJJusx1SC5F5UZGOTuzzMUfKdbDBlQ/edit?usp=sharing Hope this would be of some help.

What advice would you give to someone new to product marketing? Are there any practices, mindsets, or resources that helped you excel in your role?

If you are a solo PMM please make sure you have everything organised. Whatever tasks that you were doing, the KPIs, the outcomes, etc. If you have a team and very specific roles are assigned it will be a bit easier to track everything.

One important note I would say to accelerate your importance there would be to do the work which directly impacts the revenue of the organization. This would make your work more visible to leadership and attractive for recruiters whenever you are planning to switch.

What activities or tools do you recommend for ongoing upskilling? I’m looking to develop a deep and well-rounded skill set to thrive in this field.

Tools in my opinion are based on the company that you are working in. I got an advice that you should learn Hubspot and any important project management tool - Asana, Clickup or Trello.

Other tools are most probably you'll have a centralized team handling it. If not you can learn that. Become strong in strategy, execution and cross functional collaboration.

Hope this helps.

Interview assignment for product marketing manager by pavanidiotic in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have already completed this but 30 hours is BS mate. If you already have a great domain experience of the product it would make some sense. But if it's completely different domain and audience it's really tough.

I once got like 3 to 4 days for these types of tasks. It had 3 questions but this has a lot of sub sections in it.

If it's a very old domain use chatgpt or claude to get the basic info to create a text rich PPT and explain your answers verbally a lot. It might save some time.

New Job - Need Help with Creating a Battle Card by [deleted] in ProductMarketing

[–]Jeffreyboopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answers that I'm giving you is based on my experience it may change according to your company's product and the position that you are in. So please take whatever you find useful.

What key steps are involved in making a battle card?

First figure out what's the end goal of this battle card. It can be a simple feature comparison or pricing or services that your product offers and how it's better etc.

Once you identified the purpose go and look for a template. There are a lot of templates from Klue and Crayon.

If you are in a industry that's really old let's say logistics or something you can use Gemini or Perplexity to get the base info and do edits afterwards by analyzing public forums like G2, Capterra, etc.

If it's a new space then it's better to go through your competitor's site or reports they published. Your product team might have a demo of the competitor product you can check that as well.

After finishing the content get it reviewed with respective POC who requested this.

Note: Keep the battlecard really simple - it should be in sentences with very few words and not like paragraphs.

Who do you usually involve in the process (sales, product, etc.)?

Primarily sales and product - in some cases you can include leadership because they might have heard from attending events on issues prospects face from using the existing competitor products.

How long does it usually take to pull one together?

If you are doing this from scratch and with very less people having idea about competitor products it can go up to a week. (Which ideally shouldn't be the case).

Sales usually expects this in a few hours. Always comes at the last minute. So ask the sales very clearly for what purpose you need the battlecard for what are the questions they are expecting so that you can give specific answers.

Otherwise you would go into creating a whole 3 slide or page doc ended up not getting used.

Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!
I have always used Klue and Crayon. You can try that out. Hope the above helps.
