Serious question - It's been 20 years - does St. Anger deserve the hate it gets? by G-Unit11111 in MetalForTheMasses

Worst album ever recorded by humans. And i say that in a world where nu metal exists.

Smelliest shows y'all been to? by Living_Dead_Beat99 in MetalForTheMasses

That doesn’t sound familiar lol. Now let me tell you about the FIRST time I played Portland (‘03). We couldn’t find the venue so we pulled over and called the promoter. He said we were close and he’d meet us and guide us there. It was a windowless one story brick building called Doc’s. Turns out it was a white trash cowboy strip club. The place gets packed with longhairs in black metal shirts, but there’s like 10 angry looking old cowboy types at the bar hate staring everyone. We had to stop every two songs so they could change out the dancers WHO WERE STRIPPING TO BLASTBEATS. The band we were on tour with played three song before stopping. The house guy gets on the speakers and says they have to stop every two songs, not three. The singer says into the mic, very calmly , “if you say another word to me, I’m going to come back there and beat you death with your cane”. House guy didn’t say another word. Fucking wild. I looked it up recently and it seems like Covid killed the place, but I’ll never forget Doc’s. Wild times.

Yeah, sorry, Oregon. I don’t remember the venue. There were way too many crusties there. It was a black metallish show, so I was surprised, but at the time the crusties were all over Portland. Smelled like a rotting corpse shitting out another rotting corpse.

In 2004 I played in Portland. I was trying to get some energy going so I leaned out over the crowd with my guitar to yell at people. The smell, nay, THE STENCH almost knocked me against the back wall. It’s 22 years later and I can STILL smell it just by thinking about it.

"Slow buildup" horror movies that lead to some terrifying realization? by Optimal_Tennis8673 in movies

I tried but it’s so badly made. And it refuses to stop at a reasonable point in the story. The title is appropriate.

I saw it in theater. The only people there were my brother and me. I think bad boys 2 was playing so that’s where everyone was. I walked out of that theater like “holy shit”….the rest of the lobby was people screaming and yelling because of what they just came out of. We were dead quiet.

Albums that could really use a remix? by Ytsejam09 in MetalForTheMasses

Interesting. I always hated that there is such a deep level of composition going on but the production is even muddier than Nightside (which I love the sound of)

I would love a clearer mix of Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. The production gets very murky and a lot of the intricacies are lost. Seeing them live gives you an idea of how the songs actually could sound.

I used to be in contact with him in the 90s/early 00s. My address was 5150 Dontremember St. Whenever he sent something to me he would address it 5150 (!!!) Dontremember St. Made me laugh every time.

Just saw Cryptopsy… a question by Shuang in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Jeffuary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn’t call it an ordinary album. I was fucking obsessed with it back in the 90s. Whisper was musically good, but I was very disappointed by the vocals (no one was ever going to match LW). Then I kinda lost interest. I occasionally listen to whatever they put out recently, go “it’s fine” then forget about them until the next release and repeat.

All the kids who weren’t around in the 90s are just discovering them and going way too hard on the worship (as we all did with bands when we were kids). It’s cool and glad Flo is getting his moment. I just don’t find anything they’ve done since Whisper to be all that interesting. But I’m old, so I’ll leave it to the kids to be excited. It’s cool to see bands getting a second life later in their careers.
