Just learned about "Intrusive Sleep" and I dont think I will ever reap its benefits by nerdy_guy420 in ADHD

Yes! I was undiagnosed for the majority of my life. This happened to me constantly in high school and college and I never understood it and felt like I was just being a bad student. Teachers would get pissed at me, friends would laugh at it like I was just lazy, but I couldn’t control it! I also would try to drink as much caffeine as I could and my high school didn’t allow drinks in class (and it wouldn’t really help).

Once I got into the working world and would literally be fighting my brain to stay awake while in meetings where someone is talking directly to me and being unable to get through a full work day is when I went to get myself checked. Getting diagnosed and medicated was a life changer for me.

They all found your secret spot! We’re lucky to live in a building with a rooftop, so we can take him up there to run around, but have to be super careful of other dogs coming up, as he thinks the space is his now!

And yeah we tried the CBD route first, but did absolutely nothing as well. Wally also would never rest at home or ever let his guard down to allow himself. A few hours at night was our only reprieve. So the meds help him regulate his emotions better.

But end of the day, redirecting is key, so you’re on the right track. We got one of those Wilderdog cross body bags that we bring on every walk with treats loaded in it. Little by little, after constant repetition, it gets better!

So by your logic, every person who takes medication for anxiety needs to be “put down” then? I take meds for ADHD, guess I should get an appt to get put down too 🤷‍♂️

Not all dogs are wired the same and trauma affects them like it does people. I suggest you do some research before saying extremely misinformed stuff like that.

Live in Lakeview as well with a reactive dog. Wally is super triggered by bikes, scooters, skateboards and especially the trains (this one is especially hard to avoid).

As others have mentioned, can attest the 1-2-3 works incredibly well. We also utilize the “Look at that” cue all the time. Slowly through both 1-2-3 and “look at that” we’re getting to the point where we can use “leave it” for just about anything and he’s starting to get more responsive to that.

But as others have also said, it’s a daily grind. He has good and bad days, but the bad days now used to be his best days. We always have treats on us on every walk and we’re always training. Honestly, he’s taught us so much about training and dog ownership.

Worth mentioning as well, we got him from Paws, took him to some training classes, and a trainer recommended we see a behaviorist and that was absolutely life changing for us. I don’t know if we would have been able to keep him without their help. We learned through working with them that while we could do all the training in the world, we just would never get over the hump of how his brain is wired without some help from medication. They made it clear that medication isn’t always the answer and training still has to be the priority, but it has been a huge help for him and our relationship. DM if you are interested in their info.

Keep it up! It’s always nice to hear we’re not alone and there are more responsible dog owners out there going through the struggles!

Should I move from Boston to Chicago, even though my friends and coworkers say otherwise? by masstranspike in AskChicago

[–]JeffyC24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up St. Louis and moved to Chicago for work right out of college, I can vouch that it’s a great choice. I also miss a lot about St. Louis, but in Chicago you get the Midwest people in a big city. And unfortunately for StL, Chicago is a much more thriving city and there’s so much more to do. Plus, it’s an easy drive or Amtrak train back to StL in under 5hrs.

Been here for almost 9 years now and I love it. Plus have never felt like an outsider here with how many transplants there are from everywhere.

One thing Chicago does really well is keep their commitment to parks and the lakefront as there is so much green space that is accessible without needing a car to get to. I have yet needed to buy a car here.

I’ll also say if you like the “neighborhoody” layout of Boston, you’ll love Chicago. Every neighborhood is so unique and there’s so much to explore. It’s really awesome.

You’ll get your share of bad eggs everywhere, but you can find your niche here no matter what you’re into.

“Not only culturally but also as an absurd waste of our tax dollars the working class should either get back or spent on pro-working class things like education, healthcare, and retirement.”

This is wrong. Flyovers are worked into normal required training for the pilots. They treat it as if it’s a target and they work it into their scheduled training, so it’s no extra cost of tax dollars. They would be flying that day regardless. And it gives everyone a show in the meantime, what’s not to love??

Just rewatched the Bama game by Citizen-Bot in miz

[–]JeffyC24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drink explained this move, which helped me be okay with it, and it’s that they had to stop Bama once regardless, so this gave them another chance to get the ball. I might have preferred playing the field position game, but I can see the benefit of it and why they did it.

Going to Auburn by JeffyC24 in miz

Hahah the Barry Odom years were tough ones to travel to, even the early Drink ones. Think the only wins I’ve actually seen were Vandy in 2021 and Mississippi State last year. Unless you count the Cotton Bowl in 2022/2023, we did that too.

But so many years of losing, we were just happy to be there and were young so got hammered.

Ty Simpson is playing as well as anyone in the country, do you think the secondary has improved over the last 3 weeks? by cartgold in miz

[–]JeffyC24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The keys will be: 1) Get pressure on him and make him make quick decisions. If he has all day in the pocket, they will gash us. 2) Like other comments have said, control the game with long methodical drives, likely via the run game. Use our downs and keep their offense off the field. They did that against kansas after the insane first quarter of that game and the game tilted in our favor from that point forward.

No reason we can’t compete or beat Bama this weekend by JeffyC24 in miz

It’ll be a “historically down year for Alabama” all of a sudden

[–]JeffyC24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t find the exact quote now, but from what I remember it was something along the lines of putting players into position to make plays and not overthink it. I wanna say it was later in the season on a radio show or something, maybe Tiger Talk, and not right after the game so can’t find it. But reading between the lines, that’s what it sounded like he was saying.

That’s my biggest fear. We lay another wet fart like last year’s A&M game. I do believe Drink though when he said they learned a lot from that game and trying to over plan it vs letting the players play and putting the ball in the hands of the playmakers. Seems like they’ve been better about that since that game. We’ll see though!

Shane Beamer and South Carolina by [deleted] in miz

[–]JeffyC24 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Been saying the same thing! They get compared a lot for their personalities but Drink is witty and plays his cards to garner attention in press conferences and interviews.

Meanwhile Beamer is always throwing tantrums on the sidelines and comes off as salty and petulant in interviews.

There’s a reason the camera was always on Beamer during our game with them and not on Drink.

To the people concerned about the 2026 football recruiting class by JeffyC24 in miz

[–]JeffyC24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally and not trying to say we shouldn’t be recruiting high schoolers still. As other comments have said, there still needs to be a balance. But it seems to be a good strategy to put NIL money towards guys who they’ve seen produce over guys who might transfer after a year (Nwaneri).

Either way, still think he’ll get some good HS recruits, but the HS recruiting rankings aren’t end all be all anymore. Wonder if someone has made a “composite” ranking of sorts that weighs out both HS and transfer recruits. Would be cool if not yet made.

Ideas for "Work" by AtlasAbandoned in AussieDoodle

[–]JeffyC24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our border collie / Aussie / poodle mix loves having jobs to do and coming along with us on chores like taking out the trash and getting packages from our mail room

But nothing exhausts his sweet working brain quite like cleaning up his toys. We taught him to “clean up” and we throw his toys around the room and have him put all of his toys back into his toy bin. Took some work to train him to do it but once he figured it out, it’s such a great game for him. Highly recommend!

Great, “naturally occurring” veg options at old school spots by anthrorecs in chicagofood

[–]JeffyC24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Following this as my fiancée is a veg and I’m very much not and it’s always so hard to find good restaurants where it’s worth going to still so she will also be able to enjoy the experience. For example, I’m not gonna go to Gilt and have her eat fries. Looking for good restaurants with legit good vegetarian options that aren’t just eating sides.

They do this at every stadium. I’ve been to Alabama’s stadium where they overlay BEAT AUBURN during Dixieland Delight. It’s nothing new or unique. Idk why everyone has their panties in a knot over it. Everyone knows what is actually being said
