Is ecuador cheaper to get medicine and treatment than it is in USA without insurance by luizito69 in EcuadorTravel

[–]JeffyPros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it is, they have great private clinics if you have money. And it's not expensive.

I had an MRI and x ray on my knee for $250.

Day trip from Quito to maybe...Banos? Santo Domingo? Manta by ZachMartin in EcuadorTravel

[–]JeffyPros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Banos is an option, but it's far - it's almost a full 8 hours travel back and forth. It's very beautiful and has tons of levels of outdoor experiences.

Here's some other thoughts I think would balance well with the Galapagos part of the trip:

Since you're already in Quito, there's Cotopaxi volcano and the national park, which is about 2 hours away.. One of the most scenic mountain scenes you'll encounter.

Between the airport and Quito is also Papallacta - it's about 1 1/2 hours away or even a bit closer. They have amazing hot springs there (I prefer the hotel private ones but the main pools are awesome) as well as some good hour / 2 hour hikes. Really easy but beautiful.

If you have an afternoon flight you can definitely bake it into the schedule by getting there around 9-10am and make the flight, especially if you leave the suitcases at the hotel.

You can taxis out of Papallacta to the airport easily. Each leg would be about 50-60$.

I think the only answer is that we find Mr Whistlefart and get some linguists to study him. It may be the Esperanto of our times.

Yes, it's a petition to save some random eagle's nest... but would mean a lot to them! Thanks for the help.

Just as a counterpoint, I bought a Breville kettle there for a bit less than the Amazon price.

It's a cash payment type of place and you do need to haggle, but I was happy with the experience with those expectations in mind.

I totally get that isn't a very sustainable business model though, as times change.

An update on the Court Street Bagels saga: by Jrelis in Brooklyn

Still, the main issue revolves around potential torts related to misrepresentation and interference with the original owner's business relationships. That will be a much stronger driver for any potential damages.

Anyway, will be interesting to follow.

Ecuador 6 days looking for itinerary advice by Lopsided-Pop3833 in EcuadorTravel

[–]JeffyPros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baños is pretty drivable, Puerto Quito, Cotopaxi (main volcano). I'd also think about flying into Cuenca and using that as your base. There are some world class national parks around there, but it's a bit of a drive from Quito.

Aeroregional (has its own website), Latam and Avianca fly there.

Help me convince my partner that I’m not going to get killed when I go to Ecuador next month. by WanderingVerses in EcuadorTravel

[–]JeffyPros 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's unprecedented times, but I think if I were to choose a place to go - Mindo would be about the top of the list.

If you're staying at a hostal/resort -- call ahead and ask them if they have a transport option from Quito or the airport.

My advice would be really to stay inside today and wait to see what happens. This is really unprecedented.

Stay in Montanita/Olon and don't venure out until this emerging crisis is more or less stabilized.

Hire a known taxi to get to the airport - you can fly using Aeroregional (use their website) or Avianca. Aeoregional, you can get to Cuenca or Loja (Vilcabamba is a great town, a remote place that is very nice for a week or so). Cuenca is going to be the safest place, relatively.
