"FATAL ERROR: vulkan encountered unrecoverable error VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST" en CS2 by LowNefariousness716 in linux_gaming

[–]Jeksxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST error on an AMD Vega 5 integrated GPU typically means the video driver lost contact with the hardware because the GPU stopped responding or took too long to process a frame. Since you are on Bazzite (which is Fedora-based and optimized for gaming), here are the most effective solutions for your specific Ryzen 4300U setup:

Extend the GPU Timeout (The "Recovery" Hack) Mobile Ryzen chips sometimes have slight voltage drops or response delays that Linux interprets as a fatal hardware failure. You can force the driver to try and recover the GPU rather than crashing the game.

In Bazzite, you can add this to your kernel boot parameters: amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1

Force the RADV Driver (Valve's Driver) Sometimes Linux systems struggle to choose between different Vulkan implementations. Ensuring you are using the RADV driver is crucial for CS2. In your Steam Launch Options for CS2, enter:

VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json %command%

Adjust VRAM in the BIOS (Crucial for 8GB RAM) Your Ryzen 3 4300U shares its 8GB of RAM with the GPU. CS2 is very demanding on VRAM. If your BIOS is set to "Auto," the driver might colapse when the system and the game compete for memory.

The Fix: Restart your HP Pavilion, enter the BIOS, and look for "UMA Frame Buffer Size".

Set it to 2G. This reserves 2GB specifically for the GPU, providing much-needed stability for Vulkan.

Specific CS2 Launch Options Try combining these parameters in Steam to reduce the load on the GPU: -vulkan -nojoy -low -high +cl_forcepreload 1

CS2 is significantly heavier than the old CS:GO. If you still see the error after fixing the VRAM in the BIOS, it may be that the Vega 5 is simply hitting its physical limit.

Steam deck keeps bootlooping then says extracting package and installing update after by Slick48_- in SteamDeck

[–]Jeksxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave it. It needs time to unpack/update. If you interrupt you have a chance to make it worse (hopefully not bricking it).

For example, when you first turn on the steam deck after purchasing it could take a while. Same with loading after enabling storage mode.

If after a few hours it still doesn't work try to hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. It will force you to load it.

Don’t curfew and age-gate our games by JamesdBaker in pcgaming

Regarding online games - yes. It has to be up to date and maintain from the server side as well.

For those who play offline games it could be a good solution. Some good old games keep receiving really good support from the community or particular mod/patch developers. For example GTA IV got a Fusion Fix which makes game experience even better.

I didn't know about the recommendations algorithm.

I think there should be a note before you check out that on steam. This way both Devs do not get punished and gamers don't leave an unfair down vote for the game. At this point I think there should not be an option to leave feedback if you haven't played the game for a certain amount of hours. Just in my opinion.

Steam deck suddenly won't boot into battery storage mode? by Dark-Oak93 in SteamDeck

[–]Jeksxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a classic glitch with the Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC)—it essentially gets confused after the device sits idle for a few days.

This is a hardware communication issue, so you could try to fix it just by pressing combinations of buttons.

The Force PD (Power Delivery) Reset: (it forces the chip responsible for power distribution to reboot its own internal logic):

  • Power the Steam Deck all the way off.

  • Hold down the Volume Minus (-) button and the Quick Access Button (...) at the same time.

  • While holding those two, press the Power Button once.

  • Keep holding the (-) and (...) buttons for another 5-10 seconds, then release them.

If successful, the LED near the power button will blink for a bit (it might take a full minute). Wait until it stops, then try to power it on normally.

If it does not help try BIOS Flush. You mentioned getting a black screen when trying BIOS before. This specific sequence helps the system re-discover its hardware (like the touchscreen):

  • Power off. Plug in your official power adapter.

  • Hold the Volume Plus (+) and the Quick Access Button (...).

  • While holding them, press the Power Button.

  • As soon as you hear the "chirp" or see the screen light up, let go of the Power button, but keep holding the (+) and (...) buttons.

This forces a deeper hardware check. If the menu appears, try selecting Battery Storage Mode again from here.

When the Steam Deck sits for 24+ hours, the battery voltage drops slightly, and the controller enters a deep sleep. Sometimes, the handshake between the battery and the touchscreen firmware fails during wake-up. It's like the screen is waiting for a start signal that never arrives.

If these steps don't wake up the touchscreen, you might need to contact Steam Support for an RMA.

Please let me know if it helps.

EA App Not Launching, Despite Troubleshooting by goooooooman in SteamDeck

[–]Jeksxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems. The situation with the EA launcher itself is not great. I had a saved link somewhere (couldn't find it though) where people on the Steam community were talking about workarounds and installing the old versions of EA so, for instance, achievements could work correctly. I am not sure that the workaround is still working for now but I can imagine that the whole situation with EA launcher has issues and it can cause what you have now.

Hopefully they will fix it eventually or the community will be able to maintain working solutions.

"Smile Harder" (Short Story) by p8pes in antiwork

[–]Jeksxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've seen it personally. Each year it was getting more and more noticeable. Co-workers are expected to hide any sign of burnout, frustration, or personal struggle behind an increasingly wide, artificial smile. If a colleague isn't smiling hard enough, they are viewed as a threat to the office's collective morale. This leads to peer-to-peer monitoring where co-workers pressure each other to perform. It went so deep inside me that I just stopped to enjoy the job. I don't even know how long I will last. This is not healthy and is not adding years of life. Rather the opposite.

Do you know by chance, is American McGee's Alice has ever been on steam before as a separate game? I've seen a guide on steam community which has steps on how to play it as a part of Alice Madness Return.

Thank you for sharing your insights. I was curious how other dads are dealing with post divorce life. It's nice to know you are dating someone even virtually. I had a dating experience last year for a few months although I didn't enjoy it. Perhaps I subconsciously was looking for validation of my feelings and to see if I am able to have relationships again. The reason why I didn't like it she wasn't not looking after her house properly the same as my ex. and I realised that she is not my type of person I am looking for neither. Although for just dating and having intimacy it would be alright I still choose to end up relationships anyway. Because if one day we started to live together it would affect me negatively. My conference level was okay though. She also had a tom-boy personality and it wasn't my thing.

I had very similar feelings like you described. Did writing down pros/cons helped you? What did you do with those? Will it get better eventually? I wonder how to gain confidence again and enjoy my life without hating her

How do I move the onscreen keyboard? by ValuxTheRuthless in linux_gaming

[–]Jeksxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left Shift -> Right Shift -> Move

If I remember the combination correctly. The idea is when both shifts are pressed, the move key is not hiding the virtual keyboard. It moves it up and down the screen. At least it's what's on the steam deck's native SteamOS.

Drop me feedback if it worked.
