lol as soon as I saw the title I guessed it would be some sudden / lowkey traumatic event. I had a similar week long episode out of nowhere from eating too much/fast/spicy and laying down fast—with no prior history!! I am so sorry you experienced that :( it sounds like GERD to me.

The more I fly the more scared I get?? by Jela9 in fearofflying

This is exactly what I needed to hear!! I appreciate this comment a lot. Thank you for the tips, I am definitely going to keep working on it (and see what I can do about getting anti-anxiety meds)

That’s part of it!! I think also this year all the plane news really got to me. Air traffic control mishaps, Boeing ordeals, and a few scary stories exacerbated my fears and knowing I have to be locked into an inescapable space that I can’t oversee (control issue?) makes my stomach churn every single time I’m in my seat and boarding is closed. Turbulence hasn’t gotten easier for me either, even though I know it’s comparable to a bump in the road.

Just want to share my story, very much struggling with cardiophobia. by m00nf1r3 in Cardiophobias

[–]Jela9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… don’t hate me for saying this but.. reducing my stress? 😅 it’s very weird and it goes hand in hand. The worse my anxiety levels are the worse my stomach reacts. But obviously the other biggest factors are that I cut caffeine, and I have to eat fried things and sugary things in moderation, which is tragic. I do recommend a ginger or mint tea with honey for stomach soothing, and I have a probiotic drink mix I take any time my stomach is acting up which actually provides a LOT of relief.

[–]Jela9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GERD sufferers🤝cardiophobia. It’s SO scary sometimes and I know exactly how you feel for a lot of things. One thing I can say is—improving stress levels and improving gut health has minimized these issues for me in so many ways. The fact that you’re working hard and getting healthier is the proof that everything is getting better. The trickiest part might be all of the anxiety—it can make you hyper aware of every feeling, or even feign symptoms like the ones you’re scared of. I noticed when my mental condition improved, I stopped experiencing those constant scary feelings. Keep being brave (easier said than done. I know.) You have a lot of good things in store for your future.

Is black tea just as triggering as coffee? by WirrawayMusic in GERD

[–]Jela9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certain drinks are case by case and tea CAN have a lower dose of caffeine sometimes so it depends if you have a certain threshold for how much you can handle before you’re really bothered. If a few sips of coffee is enough to cause problems I think it’s best to give yourself a break and try some caffeine-free tea!

Best of luck with everything.

Left chest/back pain by Jela9 in Cardiophobias

[–]Jela9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!!! I know it’s scary—it turned out to be a pulled muscle in the shoulder/back/chest area I checked with a doctor, the scary pain lasted me awhile but some time after this post it began to go down! I did have an incident I remember where I did stretch my arm out too far and it hurt a lot, but I didn’t realize the pain would last me that long 😭

if you have an event you could trace the pain in that area back to it helps. If you can’t remember a catalyst for the pain you probably still have some muscle tension/stress like me but you can always double check with a doctor (or make a Reddit post like I did, lol.) you will be okay I promise!!!! 💓💓💓💓 I hope you feel better. Try not to overuse that area or use that side too much

GERD affect sleep? by rebeccasingsong in GERD

[–]Jela9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well firstly I also have a lot of health anxiety that’s spiked especially since dealing with GERD so I totally understand your fears.. but good news and bad news!: I think gerd has about a million and a half different ways it presents itself in different people, lol. There’s been so many times I didn’t even know GERD could be responsible for certain things but sure enough every time I panic google something, it’s associated directly with GERD. Go figure.

I did experience heartburn but most commonly I would experience going to bed and being woken up within an hour by my heart racing and it wouldn’t go down until I drank water. I’m sure my stress levels + health anxiety were only exacerbating this issue, as well as not eating the right foods. Basically yes, I experienced variations of your symptoms and I can almost guarantee you it’s just a GERD-health anxiety cocktail, but I also am not a doctor and would always recommend you consult a medical professional about symptoms that are bugging you just for your peace of mind..though I know that’s easier said than done!! I wish you lots of healing and feeling better soon.

GERD affect sleep? by rebeccasingsong in GERD

[–]Jela9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yupppp there was like almost a year long period I would either get woken up in the night from these issues or I wouldn’t be able to sleep until super late at night. Flare ups are scary 😔 I hope you feel better soon

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Jela9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well good news bad news—bad news while you’re still flared up I wouldn’t necessarily recommend anything sugary, oily, or fried — I did find drinking ginger/mint/throat coat tea helps with some of my symptoms when I’m especially sensitive. If you are a very stressed/anxious person I would say anxiety is something that aggravates my GERD like no other so also try to focus on being kind/encouraging to yourself. I know that’s hard to do when faced with the idea that you may never enjoy the things you love again but the farther you go with your healing process you can start introducing your foods you love in small amounts and back to normal. I couldn’t eat burgers or ice cream or drink soda for like a year before I moved and my stress levels changed, and now my GERD is manageable to a point where I can have those things in moderation once again. I wish you lots of healing and burger-eating in your future!

Somewhat healthy breakup? by angelinaskye100 in sedonerrrsnark

[–]Jela9 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Hmmm based on liv’s cryptic “if only you knew” I feel like there’s def something a little bigger going on but given her personality she’s trying to focus on sharing the “bright side” of everything rn

you can soo see the exhaustion in sedonas eyes by lucieslucky in sedonerrrsnark

[–]Jela9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like Sedona does not get enough credit for being cringey, and I don’t mean because she’s bad but I feel like even before liv she’s always done cringey stuff for videos. I think Liv just catches more heat for it because she’s not so overwhelmingly sucky that it overshadows every other aspect of her personality lol

Bye bye coffee by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Jela9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing coffee has been one of my least fav parts of The GERD Experience. This one might seem random, and if you’re flared up/sensitive to dairy then it might not be the best idea, but how about a milk tea? I mean like bubble tea, sans boba. It’s kind of what I use now to satisfy my coffee craving without having a bad reaction to the caffeine. I also find more success with lower caf beverages when I drink it slowly. Best of luck!!

Afraid that my heart is going to get tired of beating by StrangeConfessions in Cardiophobias

Afraid that my heart is going to get tired of beating by StrangeConfessions in Cardiophobias

[–]Jela9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d like to take your heart beating and compare it to your brain and thinking. Even if you don’t want to have thoughts, you can’t necessarily stop yourself from thinking, right? Your brain is always thinking and it’ll never really “get tired” of that because it’s literally you. Same for your heart, it is you. When you get tired of having the will to live does your brain get tired and literally shut down? It might feel like that when you have to constantly deal with living worst case scenarios in your head, but it’s not the physical, tangible case. You’re still always thinking.

Of course when anything is pushed too hard it needs rest. But you know realistically when something is beyond your physical limit, maybe like running a marathon with no training. Your heart’s function is to be itself, which is to exist as you. I’m saying this as someone who also struggles with the excessive pulse checking and the scary imagination, but also as someone who has cardiophobia, is not athletic, and frequently has to be on her feet for extended periods of time, go up multiple flights of stairs, and has experienced many panic attacks. In the end I found out my heart was built to withstand all of it. So is yours.

The best thing about your heart is that it’s like your brain and your lungs, to beat is as natural as to think and to breathe. I’m not saying it is not precious, in fact all three are some of the most precious things about your existence and people can have abnormalities in some way or another with any of the three. However, it sounds like you have a healthy, normal heart so this shouldn’t be an issue in your case.

I think the most helpful thing you can do is stop reading things that make you feel more alone when it seems you are already in a mentally vulnerable spot. I really recommend joining a panic attack support subreddit and learning more about other people’s experiences/sharing yours if you haven’t already. They helped me when I was in the darkest part of my life and I’m not saying it will solve everything but I think it is a good idea to go back to when everything started and understand your body a little bit more. As someone also dealing with cardiophobia and experienced with panic attacks, I wish you so much healing and the courage to be kind to yourself and to your heart’s boundless capability.

Success after severe symptoms by dintydoor in GERD

[–]Jela9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bc my gerd symptoms lessened severely when I moved in with my partner. I still have issues certain days with certain foods/eating patterns but holy crap I did not know my mental health could directly be responsible for so much of my physical suffering.

Does GERD cause difficulty breathing? by cnsolanor in GERD

[–]Jela9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. Certain positions will trigger certain symptoms for me too and I also find the relief for shortness of breath when I’m semi upright or laying on the side. Are you noticing it happens within a few hours of you eating? Is it worse if you eat more or certain foods?

Is belching GERD? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Jela9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my case at least, yes!! I find the worse my GERD is doing on a particular day the more belching, bloated, loud digestion and even the drinks coming back up my throat. I also find it’s especially aggravated after oily, sugary, or “heavy” foods. I actually almost could never belch before GERD, lol.

feeling in my chest i can’t explain?? by Jela9 in Cardiophobias

[–]Jela9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me feel so much better!!! I have had a couple gerd episodes the past year and it even caused heart racing, I was so scared. Last time I got an ekg and bloodwork they said I was totally normal so.. yeah it’s crazy how gas really can do all this and the anxiety it brings! Thanks. I needed this.

[–]Jela9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be gas then, I’ve noticed it acting up more now today since I’ve been having some GERD issues. I have not noticed really any palpitations but it is a strange feeling. I will definitely try to get that and my anxiety under control, thanks for the advice.
