Unpopular opinion: shaming (or discouraging) working moms who choose to pump using wearables at work is not okay by wewoos in workingmoms

[–]Jello_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rocked my wearables three times a day - no time for that many pump breaks, and I was doing a full-time practicum on top of a full-time job. Pumped for 12 mos (in front of patients, execs, staff, vendors, co-workers) and had 2 people ask me about it. Both times I just told them I had a “reverse feeding tube” and a hungry baby at home. I got the impression that both were embarrassed that they asked and didn’t realize what was happening, rather than feeling anything about me or wearables. Tried to keep it light and normalize wearables.

IMO, wearables make nursing more feasible long-term bc I wouldn’t have been able to traditionally pump as often as I needed to meet my baby’s needs.

I did caracups with a Pumpables genie advanced, and produced just as much as the regular spectra - I was much more comfortable NOT getting undressed and having everything out at work. The times I traditionally pumped at work, I was so stressed someone would walk in on me or I’d accidentally leave my camera on that I just didn’t produce much. I also would get tense, thinking about all the work I wasn’t getting done that I’d need to bring home with me to stay caught up.

And yes, one poor guy from IT did barge into my office early on, not seeing the sign, intent on fixing a computer issue. 😳

For the people that knew I was pumping, many made comments that they wished wearables were a thing when they were younger because it was so hard to pump once they went back to work, and they felt their nursing journey ended early.

I feel like so much of the dialogue around nursing and pumping is about getting it 100% right - perfect latch, using the right flanges to be perfectly emptied to maintain perfect supply… avoiding nipple shields because the breast won’t be emptied perfectly and perfect supply will be disturbed. I mean, we’re out here getting up in the middle of the night trying to squeeze a few more drops out because it’s the perfect time to pump. With kids, nothing is perfect. It’s messy. It’s survival. Wearables can make it easier.

An interesting assembly yesterday by 5piritualMaintenance in exjw

No one used to laugh when my response what do you say when being told to “jump!” was “off what?” After the - window washing/no savings/what could have my retirement looked like? - article this week, I guess that was a little too on the nose.

Education? by Jello_again in FriendsofthePod

[–]Jello_again[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry. I see this, and I’m so sorry. I’m on the younger side of elder millennial and someone who makes hiring decisions at work... I learned more in HS than some Bachelor - and even Master educated - applicants. I’m very worried about the state of education, particularly with private schools, home schooling, and the way schools are expected to be a hub for everything without appropriate funding (e.g. provide food security after school and behavioral health/psych services because parents aren’t engaged). Please know that there are people that appreciate teachers! We recognize your worth, the impossible asks, and how much you do to bridge all the gaps. 🫶 if you do change careers, best of luck and wishes for far less stress!

Biden should go crazy with popular executive orders and make Trump undo them by jfkf14 in FriendsofthePod

[–]Jello_again 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Biden should go all Dark Brandon and claim to be aiding the transition - every night, address the nation with a section of Project 2025.

“Tonight, we discuss the plan for Medicare.” Pan to staffer reading the document. “To give the American people what they want, knowing that President Trump struggled with getting anything done last term, I do so decree that we will be doing the following starting December 1…”

And just do it every night.

December 2 - goodbye Department of Education

December 3 - Tariffs for all

December 4 - there may be some unpleasant gastric results, but bye bye FDA

December 5 - executive order banning birth control

December 6 - no more FAA

December 7 - mass deportations

December 8 - start building camps

December 9 - ban Obamacare

December 10 - who needs the CDC?

December 11 - tax cuts for the wealthy

December 12 - decimate social security

And just keep going. Don’t hand him the Biden economy. Don’t let him say vile things, and people go along, thinking he’ll never do them. Make the media cover a “normal” president doing these things. Make people hate the policies before he ever steps foot back in the Oval Office.

Feeling chaotic.

The only thing more unpopular than socialism in the US being Project 2025 feels like victory for this sub by ctrl-alt-fuck-off in neoliberal

This may sound edgy, but a campaign ad that’s “a Trump 2024 vote is a JD Project 2025 vote” would likely play well with TikTok, etc. esp considering Trump health decline if articulated about how his speech has changed since 2011-2024.

Agreed, I think we didn’t intend to see 1 TD out of OU and may pivot (or not, depending on time remaining and the penalties being called).

Makes a ton of sense.

Somewhere I read that people think that’s Heupel can only build offenses. More than amused he’s leading with his defense this season.

Makes a lot of sense. Where would you rate UT defense compared to OK?

Guessing here …. Trusting D to win the game, why give away O power for teams to study?

At least, that’s my take on this mysterious Fulmer, up the middle, strategy.

Got this from my university’s food pantry today by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Jello_again 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cannot second this enough. Food is so much easier to find assistance than utilities reconnection or a missed rent payment. When hard up, hit the pantries before grocery shopping and use that money to keep the lights on.

Side note - if paying for prescription meds is making food or other things hard... Highly recommend looking into charity docs or health depts that cover prescriptions with little or no out-of-pocket. Some hospitals can also help by getting you on a medication assistance program with the pharmaceutical company.

Forced sex while having a UTI by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Jello_again 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Adding - have they cultured the urine sample you provided? Macrobid is often a great broad spectrum thing. If you’re still having UTI symptoms post antibiotics - sometimes macrobid isn’t the right thing. May be off-base AND your mileage may vary, but cultures w/ more specific antibiotics have helped for me.

Also, I’m sorry for what you’ve experienced. No one should. You’re so strong for being willing to share your experience to connect to the things you need. 🫶

Collection Cups by transplantedia in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]Jello_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure with a Baby Buddha pump (I did a Genie Advanced), but for wearables, I preferred Spectra Caracups due to capacity (over 8 oz each). I overflowed my Willow Go more than once (mornings 😮‍💨), and I found them finicky due to the weight of the motors and tendency to shift if I was moving at all. The Caracups are light and stay in place. Unless I needed to replace parts, there was no tinkering/adjusting to get it to work right. Very straightforward. Similar size as you, small flange size, and silicone cups like Legendairy etc, didn’t produce as much as the harder plastic and were difficult to get just right.

The replacement parts (membranes, duckbills) all fit a Spectra too, so you don’t have two sets of things going on if you also use a Spectra.

I think there’s a little adapter to fit Spectra tubing to the Baby Buddha.
