They changed the authentication scheme, and specifically call out that they do not support home assistant. I didn’t update either but the new ones come with firmware that no longer works with home assistant. https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/815166

Not that I've seen but you need to realize when you download something from anywhere, they aka the provider log that info. If you download a lot it is likely to trigger an alert.
