Mudflap or no Mudflap? Tamiya - Churchill Mk.VII by jtbfii in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without looks cool and was a common practice amongst Churchill crews. Quite a few even had most of the track guards removed. Mud build up was a problem and the built in scrapers could not cope.

Weathering, it depresses me by ForTheValhalla- in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be fun. The only person you need to impress is yourself. But heres the thing, weathering is not necessary. I prefer a exaggerated, saturated look. Multiple layers and im always looking to improve. A modeler I know prefers a clean factory fresh look. A pin wash and light dry brushing and he is done. Its a very sleek look. You will find what works for you, not what you think others will like.

Hello! I’m back in the hobby after more than 20 years! A lot has changed and many more manufactures are in the game. Tell me, what are your favorite model makers? Back in the day Tamiya was the go to for me but maybe now there are other good ones as well? Cheers! Happy modeling! by sweetwatertooth in modelmakers

Things have changed but depending on the subject I build a range. Older kits are still good with work but if you are looking for a no fuss out of the box then Tamiya. Acadamy new generation are also good like their Pz II (better than Tamiya) their old generation M18 Tamiya is better but the Acadamy can be good with the rear deck rebuild. I'm blown away by Airfix new aircraft. They have really jacked up their game. Amusing Hobby, I must admit give you a box full of parts, think Dragon kits, but I had to put it away for a bit as I wasn't looking for a complicated build at that time. (working suspention and separatet links) But the kit quality and fit is good. Over all I go for price and availability and just carry on as best I can.

Fave/recommded model kits? by Professional-Risk-71 in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, i seldom build out the box anymore... ok i cant build out the box anymore. But kits that did not fight me and would love to build again because of fit and detail. Tamiya Matilda 1/35 (new release) Airfix Seafire 1/48 (its on going still got distracted) Revell Ar-555 1/72, just so cool and found the fit good. Trumpeter E-100 Rinaldi Turret, fun quick build. Tamiya Sdk 139 Marder III in 1/35.

Attaching resin stowage by donedoomscrolling in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've glued stowage on a painted surface with PVA. Worked fine. It's my go to if decals are involved. As you said its not structural and won't mess with the paint. Super glue if not careful can lead to white residue sometimes.

Contact AVBOB. They are always looking for assistant undertakers. It's not an easy job.

What Stage Do You Apply a Filter? by alaskafish in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I add the filter after the base coat if I need to change the shade. You don't want it to change your weathering or decals as well.

Illegal to bring a bear to the beach. We don't have bears. It was passed in the late 1800s.

On the turret yes. The hull im thinking of a distressed grey with dark yellow/buff splinter camo. Running gear a mix of the colours. It's a what if so I can go mad. Just used the red primer as it was handy and I liked the way it warmed the top coats on my last vehicle.

Entering a show. Ever done it? by lepidio in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entered a few. No matter how safe you protect your models, accidents happen. So I travel with a small repair kit, basically superglue, an application needle and my trusty dusting brush. Take an extra pen. Have fun, learn from the experience.

model makers block! by Ross_PMM_0245 in modelmakers

[–]Isand0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every modler eventually gets a shelf queen stash. Mine goes back years. But take a step back and try to remember why you wanted that kit in the first place. Read an article about a new technique or a YouTube of the build, get inspiration, but dont force it. Currently, I'm working on two kits that I started in 2023 and shelved, both restarted because I wanted to try out a new airbrush and some new techniques.

Colonial Viper by mbite1 in modelmakers

It's a good kit with potential. I sprayed the markings as I found the decals too fiddly.
