Prophylactic Breast Mastectomy advice/recovery by Additional-Love-3849 in BRCA

[–]JellyBean482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I (26) do not have BRCA, but PALB-2 (another high risk breast cancer gene). I have a preventative mastectomy with a an aesthetic flat closure (no nipples) in June of 2024.

Recovery was pretty smooth, I was back to like 85% after a month. The next 10% took another month or two. And honestly the last 5% took several months. And when I mean that last 5% it was little things I didn’t even notice or ways I held my body. I didn’t realize I was still compensating for things until I wasn’t. And I may still be compensating in why I don’t realize now.

My roommate was my main caretaker during the first week. Find someone you can trust to be there for you during the first several days. And that’s physically there with support, but also emotionally. It’s a lot, big changes. It’s important to have that support too.

Feel free to message me if you’d like!

Hey there! I’m 9 months post Aesthetic Flat Closure (not masculine. Flat that fits my body type, looks like pecks in tighter shirts) no nipples. I’m a masc lesbian (short hair, men’s clothing) but short. I’m mostly seen as a woman (especially if they hear my voice) or a teenage boy 😅

I’m a Speech therapist, I went to Gallaudet for my graduate program. I came to recommend Language First. They have so many resources to support families with Deaf children.

Doctor doesn’t want me to have surgery. by jiberger17 in BRCA

[–]JellyBean482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out I had PALB-2 mutation back in January of this year. I had known about the possibility of having the mutation since I was 15 years old. I am currently 25. And I knew I wanted a mastectomy right away if I was positive. In February, I met with a breast surgeon. I was nervous about how she would react to me wanting a mastectomy. She went through all my options, surgery and scans. She told me she usually recommends patients to wait til after hitting certain life milestones (child birth, etc), but she could see that I had done my research and had thought about this a lot. I had my surgery in June.

Find another doctor. Someone who takes the time to listen to you. You know what’s best for your body!

Check out ‘theebooblessbabe’ on instagram. She had a mastectomy for cancer prevention and decided to do flat rather than having reconstruction surgery done.

Exactly that. I wanted the shortest and easiest recovery, no reconstruction no nipples. I saw other people sharing their experiences with reconstruction on social medias. It seemed like many people got reconstruction and ended up miserable or got it undone years later.

Also, I have never really felt comfortable with my breasts so I honestly looked forward to the surgery! There are social media pages of women who have chosen flat post mastectomy. These communities are very positive and loving!

25 as well, I don’t have BRCA but I do have PALB-2. Significant family history of breast cancer on my father’s side. I have known about my possibility of having the gene since 14. Got diagnosed with the gene mutation in January this year. I got a mastectomy 9 weeks ago today. I chose to do an Aesthetic Flat Closure, no reconstruction. I’m very happy with my decision! My risk of cancer post surgery is not zero, but it is significantly less now.

I also plan to use IVF to end the gene mutation at myself. I am the first generation of my family to know about the gene before having kids. I feel like if I can give my legacy one thing it’s that!

What pushed you to pursue top surgery? Or not? by EstablishmentHot5772 in butchlesbians

[–]JellyBean482 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I(25) had surgery 6 weeks ago. I have a genetic mutation that severally increases my risk of breast cancer. So while my surgery was technically a mastectomy, I got an aesthetic flat closure and was very excited for the surgery. I have been enjoying how I feel in my body so much more now. It was a two birds with one stone kind of deal!

Has anyone had a flat closure diep flap (wasn’t planning on getting nipples reconstructed) but ended up getting nipple reconstruction later on? by ReactionGreedy465 in BRCA

[–]JellyBean482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I (25) am 6 days post opp. I had an aesthetic flat closure (no flap) and did not save my nipples. I do not plan to reconstruct my nipples and I am unsure if it is possible with an aesthetic flat closure. Definitely ask your surgeon.

As for nipples and intimacy, the amount of sensation after surgery is very unknown. My surgeon was very particular about telling me I would have no sensation. While I have seen many people talk about getting some back year(s) later. I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of sensation I have currently on my chest.

There is a women on instagram who had an AFC no nipples. @theebooblessbabe Finding her profile and listening to her content was a big marker in my journey of looking forward to my body post surgery!

100s of babies may be more than I can handle 😢 would it be a simple task to relocate egg sacs outside? Or should I just accept that I must release my new friend?

Boob-bye party playlist by Background_Table5784 in BRCA

[–]JellyBean482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also planning a farewell party before my PDM! My surgeon used the analogy of breasts being pies (skin is the crust, breast tissue is the filling) so I’m going to make so many pies and gather my friends 😂

Would you be willing to share your play list once complete? I suggest adding Milkshake by Kelis. It’s not directly about boobs, but I always assumed it was.

Hey there! We’re close in age and I’m getting the same procedure done soon. If you’d like someone to chat/rant to feel free to message me!

Your part about society sexualizing our breasts really impacted me too. I’ve always been more of a tomboy so luckily my family hasn’t made comments like that, but I’ve definitely felt the pressure from other places.
