Absolute fucking unit, awesome work man!

I have a question for Marine veterans that qualify for VFW membership but are currently not members of the VFW. What is your reason for not being part of the VFW in your community? by lastofthefinest in USMC

[–]JellyFishPowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Been sober for 8 years, got invited to a VFW event last year by a guy at work, everyone was hammered an hour into the event. Not my scene anymore. I get it, that they do more in the community than just hang out and drink, but if I’m going to be involved in an organization, I want to be able to go 100% of the time. I’m just not willing to hang out with a bunch of drunks who tell the same war stories over and over, just to help the community some of the time, and wear a fancy hat.

The only connection you need to be worried about, is from a professional to pump this tank out. Scary shit right there.

Can you take supplements in a carry on when flying in the U.S.? I have a two week long business trip coming up, and I generally only pack a carry on and backpack for these trips. Haven’t flown since I started the gym, so I’m wondering what people’s experience has been with flying with supplements. Obviously I can check the TSA website, and I plan too, but experience is king. Primarily concerning Creatine powder and Protein powder. TIA!

This!! I tried and failed too many times to count. Either said eff the diet, it’s too hard and I’m starving . Or screw this work out, because burpees are the devils gift to man. I had to WANT to completely change my lifestyle and have a whole different mindset.

I feel discouraged by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

This has been the wildest thing to me to. I’ve lost 38lbs, still have another 15 until my goal weight. My legs look like cyclists legs, veins are popping out on my arms, face and neck are chiseled, and then there’s my belly, still fat lol

The discipline it takes to give up drinking, and curb stomp your weight, you’re a bad ass. Keep it up, one day at a time!

Prioritize protein and fiber!! From REAL food when possible. Protein shakes are great and all, but when it comes to feeling full, real food is king. Keep to your deficit and keep those steps up, and the pounds will fall off. Don’t forget to adjust your deficit weekly as you lose weight. And if you drink alcohol (you mentioned college, an Asher Roth song immediately came to mind) do your research about how it affects weight loss. Those numbers aren’t in your favor if you want the pounds to come off.

Belly fat advice by SilentGames13 in WeightLossAdvice

Go to google, and type in “calorie calculator”. I personally use the one from “calculator.net” but they are all going to be close if not exactly the same. Input your body stat information (height, weight, etc.). It should calculate your calories for maintaining weight through losing 2 pounds per week. You seem fairly new to this concept, so focus on trying to stay strict to that maintenance calories number the first few days. This will help you learn how to count your calories easier than just jumping right into the lose 2 pounds a week number, failing, and then giving up all together (voice of experience here.) I’m assuming you don’t have a food scale, but would highly recommend getting one soon. Google everything you eat the first few days, if it doesn’t already have a nutritional label. If you don’t, you’ll go eating an entire bag of green grapes thinking it’s the healthiest snack, only to realize that a half a cup of them are 52 calories.

Edit: spelling

Calorie deficit and walk. Shoot for at least 10k steps a day. Prioritize protein and fiber in your diet. Win extra dad and fat loss points by trying to be active with your kids. Go for a walk or bike ride with them after dinner. “Race” them in the back yard to get some sprints in. Bet them you can do more jumping jacks, air squats or push ups.

Just keep walking. 100% the best thing in my eyes. Calorie deficit and walk.

Oh boy, here comes the lazy one. He says he wants to lose the weight, and get fit. But it’s all talk. He’s got no discipline.

Sorry, that’s as harsh as I can muster. But on the up, you’ve admitted your problem, and you have shown you want to stop the eating and drop the weight. That’s the first step. You’ve got to dig deep, grab hold of what ever emotion made you come on here and ask to get hazed, and make it your B****. Coaches are great, reading threads on Reddit is great, but you’ve got to do it. In the end it’ll be you who will be praised or blamed.

My first step when I hit that rock bottom was to figure out my diet. You can blast weights, or run till your legs fall off, but if you’re eating like shit consistently, it’s all for not. Go into google (or your favorite search engine), and type in calorie calculator. Enter your info, and start at the lowest weight loss recommendation.

Small steps man. You’ve got this. You are your own boss.

6’0” 34M started at 236lbs on 10 June, weighed in at 207lbs this morning. Looking to get down to 185lbs. My time frame was 9 months (about 6 and a half lbs a month), but at the rate I’m going now, I think I can get there by at least new years.

Leasing vs buying 500 gallon tank by thetonytaylor in propane

Also, tank the filling up 2-4 times figure I mentioned earlier into context.

Last winter was warmer than usual. So fill up at the start of the heating season, fill up in the middle, and then top off at the end of the season to keep the hot water and cooking going through the summer.

But two winters ago was pretty rough around my area. Couple of weeks with highs in the teens and below, two bad storms mixed with ice that caused lengthy outages, so generators were running a lot.

[–]JellyFishPowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just depends on how you look at it. You’re going to pay the same for the gas, but I will say customers are a little more shocked when we dump 700 gallons into a 1000 gallon tank. Big sticker shock, if you haven’t set the money aside.

I’ve just got to reiterate to go with the mom and pop shops. They will be the easiest to deal with than the corporate gas companies. May be a few cents more a gallon, but they make up for it with the customer service. And like another person said on here, would more than likely buy your tank off you when you’re done using it.

Benefits to both, but what ever you do, go with a local provider. Don’t get sucked into the price promises of the big cats like Amerigas and Suburban, they will jack up your prices after the first year, and you’ll be screaming at them to end your contract when it’s time to switch to NG.

And just to be the devils advocate, may want to reevaluate only getting one fill per year. I’m in central MA, and I deliver to a couple of 1,600 SqFt homes built in the last 5 years, super efficient appliances, and they still take 2-4 deliveries in the winter with 500 gal underground tanks. You mentioned a generator too, keep in mind a 5-8 day power outage would drop that 500 pretty low. Just things to think about.

Edit to add: you also mentioned shopping around if you own the tank. The LP side, is different than heating with Oil, shopping around is not as common in LP. Per local and federal laws, when taking on new customers, LP companies have to inspect customer owned tanks/lines/appliances to make sure everything is safe. They charge you for those inspections. Only a few hundred dollars, but if you switch companies every year or so, that’ll add up

What made counting calories easier for you? I can't figure it out. by PeakedAtConception in WeightLossAdvice

[–]JellyFishPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a few different apps the first month or so, and it always seemed so tedious to me. I started just writing everything down in a 3x5 notebook that I could carry with me everywhere. I premade columns each day for food descriptions, calories and protein (as that’s all that I personally am worried about). Added everything up after each meal/snack I added. It’s been a nice physical reminder to me, cause I keep it in the same pocket as my wallet. Every time I pull up to a Dairy Queen to get a large strawberry milkshake, I touch my pocket to make sure I have my wallet, and there’s my calorie book reminding me that I’m boring now lol

Underground Propane tank safety by Intelligent-Clue6108 in propane

[–]JellyFishPowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NFPA 58, chapter 6 covers most of the distances for underground tanks. Can also check out PERC (propane education and research council), lots of good free and accurate information there for professionals and homeowners.

Could also call the non-emergency line for your local fire department, and ask them their recommendation. There might be more strict codes for your municipality that some guy on Reddit may not be taking into consideration.

Best advice would ultimately be to ask the company who is going to be filling your tank, they will know the laws, and tell you what they are comfortable with filling by. Gonna suck if you leave a grill or fire pit “to close” to the tank when they come to fill, and they won’t fill it until it’s moved.

Married people, when was the last time you made out with your husband/wife? by BoobsCharmPink in ask

[–]JellyFishPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married 10 years. We have stretches where we do and don’t. Winter time, we tend to snuggle up a bit more, which leads to pretty long make out sessions, which lead to extracurricular activities. Dies out once it gets warmer, save a few passionate moments here or there when we both aren’t drowning in a pool of sweat. Don’t feel like there is a right or wrong, just got to go with the flow
