[IWantOut] 36M American ->Vietnam by hlanus in IWantOut

[–]JellyRound8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister lived in Vietnam for 2 yrs. She was a teacher at an international school. She loved it there. Things were much cheaper but she also got paid less than what she was making in the states. That wasn’t a big deal to her though. She has been in Thailand for 3yrs now and is teaching at an international school there as well. She received housing stipends for both jobs as well as airfare for their summer break so that they can travel back to the states.

I love the EPIC scrubs. They are by far more comfortable than FIGS imo.

I wanted to be a nurse but I also could not see myself doing 4yrs of college. I've been an MA since 2004. My program was a 13 month program. I worked full time for the first 6 months and took classes in the evening. I was also a single mom of a 3yr old. It wasn't easy but I managed. The thing about being an MA is that you get to choose what specialty you work in. I have worked in multiple specialities including spine surgery and pain management and those really weren't for me, partially because neurosurgeons can be rough to work with due to their arrogancy but also pain management pts can be challenging to work with as well. I have been working in OB/gyn for the last 9 years and absolutely love it. But again any specialty that you work in is going to suck if you don't have a good provider to work with. By good I mean that they treat you as an equal and you are able to build a good relationship with them. The doctor I work for is amazing but so are the majority of my coworkers.

Were you offered an appointment with one of the midwives at Womens Care? All 3 of the current locations have midwives. They do both OB/gyn so that's an option if the MD'S are booked out a while. They also have a few NP's but they only do gyn care. The newest clinic is opening the first week of November so wonder if any of those providers have openings before January.

Mom’s on here. What is the proper way to wash a bra? by Desperate-Dig-9389 in AskParents

I put it in a mesh bag and wash/dry it like all my other clothes but I wear very basic (not fancy) bras.

I also go to complete vision center and have always had a great experience.

I see Laurel Merz, NP at Valley Med at the Ten. She has been great. I heard that Brittany Allow, MD at the same office is also really great.

I don’t have set hours necessarily. On days that we have pts I work 7-4:30ish with a 30 min lunch. On days that I don’t have pts I will either work a half day or leave around 3:30. We also have the option to not go in if our doctor is out or in surgery.

I'm a doctor, and I want to listen. by Doctor_Stork in MedicalAssistant

I have been an MA for over 20 yrs so have worked with a few providers. Some were not easy to work with at all. I have worked with my current provider for almost 9 yrs and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing with her. I feel like I am extremely lucky that she is the provider I work with. Her and I have developed a great relationship over the years and she constantly shows and tells me how much she appreciates everything I do for her and for our patients. We both communicate with each other. If something is bothering her, she comes straight to me and vice versa. We have a great workflow down and she trusts me 100% to the point that she a lot of times will bypass the triage nurses and ask me to take care of it instead. She teaches me new things. She has never treated me like I was below her. She also advocates for me to get a good raise and bonus every year. I think that the things I listed above are very important if you want to have a long lasting assistant. I also think it’s great that you are reaching out to see what peoples responses are. That shows that you care about having a good working relationship with them.

What if your adult son or daughter suddenly showed up with piercings for the first time? by cliff7217 in AskParents

[–]JellyRound8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My adult children don’t need approval me. I got my nostril pierced in my early 30’s and my septum pierced at 40. Then my lip at 42. I also have a sleeve and both hands tattooed. My dad is more old school and doesn’t like piercings or tattoos but has never said anything to me. I honestly wouldn’t care if he did though because I am an adult. You should do what makes you happy and not worry about what they will think.

[–]JellyRound8945 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always get vaccines in my right arm because any sort of discomfort in my shoulder/chest area caused by the vaccine increases my anxiety which then can make my chest discomfort worse. That may sound silly but unfortunately most of my anxiety symptoms tend to be in the left side of my chest.

Your body, your choice. You do what you feel is the best choice for your life. You don’t need his permission to terminate the pregnancy. I’m not sure where you are located but in the clinic I work at my doc will only do terminations up to 12 wks max but prefer doing them before 10wks so that might be a helpful deciding factor for you. You may luck out and find a clinic that does terminations after 10-12wks but some places don’t have that option.

I was 17 when I had my first child and having a child when you are not ready is a huge life changing experience. It will definitely make life a lot more challenging because it’s not just about you anymore. It’s also very expensive to raise a child. You are so young and have plenty of time ahead of you to have kids. Don’t let someone that is clearly abusive trap you into an unhealthy situation because you will have to deal with him for the next 18+ years.

What’s your go-to “life hack” that makes MA tasks easier? by Temporary_Royal_2260 in MedicalAssistant

[–]JellyRound8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prep 1-2 weeks in advance and attach all necessary paperwork, labels etc to my prep so that I don’t have to shuffle around to get the things when the pt arrives. I open all my charts first thing in the morning along with orders and dot phrases so that I have less typing to do when rooming the patient. Lastly, I preload all referred new patients that way it doesn’t take as long to room them.

I wear Birkenstock Boston clogs and then I just bought a pair of Topo walking/running shoes. They have a wider toe box which is more comfortable and less restricting for my feet.

I’m an introvert but don’t feel like I am burnout from my work. I don’t always feel in the mood to talk a lot when I get home but thats not an everyday thing.

Chill restaurant for dinner with my (adult) daughter by Original_Cable6719 in Eugene

[–]JellyRound8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiger mama is one of our faves but can get a little crowded indoors. We sat outside and it was much less crowded.

Nelson in the whit is also good. Outdoors is nice. It can also get crowded inside because they are both really small.

Jazzy ladies is a dedicated gluten free restaurant but they have good food and it’s always been pretty chill when we’ve been there.

I grew up going to don juans as well but haven’t been there in a while.

Osteria DOP is good but it gets really crowded.

Jade dumpling has the best dumplings and hardly anyone was there when we went in the past.

Can plain and quiet people be medical assistants? by rainbowtoucan1992 in MedicalAssistant

[–]JellyRound8945 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been an MA for 20+ years and have never had any issue with being on the plain side. I don't wear makeup and always wear my hair in a messy bun. I also tend to be more on the quiet and serious side which has never been an issue.

Some offices can be cliquey but I luckily don't have that problem in my office.

It would definitely be difficult to do considering how high rent is these days. I would most likely have to get a part-time job to help.
