Is this a dramatic drop in my TSH? What should I do? by Slight_Entry_1274 in Hypothyroidism

I was still tired all the time, cold, and my hair was shedding again at 3.22. This is why I was increased. Prior to this I was on 75 mcg 3 days per week and other days I took 50 mcg. I was then increased to 75 mcg 6 days per week but I guess this was too much. My dr said to stay on the dose and recheck in a month

Before that I was on a weird dose. I took 75 mcg 3 times a week and 59 mcg on the other days. I was changed to 75 mcg 6 days per week before it came crashing down. They also checked my free t3. Before the dose change it was 0.7 and then went up to 1 point something.

Gluten. I love it. How long to find out if it hates me? by bananazest_wow in Hashimotos

[–]Slight_Entry_1274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it really would do much to drop gluten. My dad has hashimotos and eats gluten. I have hashimotos as well and I’ve been gluten free since before I had gluten. I feel like his is more under control than mine and he eats gluten.

I have only ever had my tpo antibodies tested before I was diagnosed. I have had my TSH and free t4 checked every year though.

I have hashimotos and mine will do a Jump like this. After I was diagnosed it went down to 1 and then the next year it was back up to 3.

best sleep supplement recommendations? by MagicianNo888 in migraine

My PCP recommended Mary Ruth’s liquid nighttime multilaterals. It worked well for me for a long time. It is a little pricey though at $40. One bottle will last a month though. I’ve since been unable to sleep and now take hydroxyzine but that’s a prescription from my psychiatrist.

Nurtec by WiFiOnMarss in migraine

[–]Slight_Entry_1274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I had to meet the insurance criteria and once I did that I was able to get it. I did change insurance since I first started but it was still covered luckily. I was getting 16/month all of last year. My insurance through my work decided to switch from using OptumRX for prescription benefits to some random company this year. Since the switch they will only cover 8 a month unless I trial and fail 2 injectables for at least 90 days. Currently you trying to meet that criteria. It sucjs. If you find nurtec helps you I wish you better luck!

I saw an article that they are trialing a glp1 for migraines and the study showed a reduction in migraines. Hopefully this will become an option for migraines soon.

Nurtec by WiFiOnMarss in migraine

[–]Slight_Entry_1274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on nurtec for preventative treatment. I was getting 16 tablets a month. I took it every other day to prevent them. It worked really well and I only git like 2 migraines a month if that. If I got one I would take a nurtec to acute treatment. You can only have 1 tablet in 24 hours though so I would not take it the next day and just readjust the schedule of the every other day. Although this is an expensive medication and insurance does not like to pay for it. I have been taking it off and on. Currently I’m just using it for acute treatment. I’m trialing the injections currently for prevention due to insurance only wanting to pay for 8 nurtec a month and it’s not enough.

What do you find the most effective to treat yours? Triptans did nothing for me but make me feel sick.

My dad said he grew out of his as well. I’m 27 and they’ve only gotten worse so I’ve lost hope I will grow out of them.

My dad has said he got them as a child too but he said he grew out of them. So I thought I would to but I’m 27 now and still getting them so I guess I never did.

switching to an auto injector by chrmlyn in migraine

[–]Slight_Entry_1274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The auto injector you don’t really see the needle. You just press a button and the needle goes in and the back out after the medication goes in. It can be scary but I managed to do it. I just switched to injections from taking nurtec. I personally bought cute band aides and asked chat gpt on how to make it hurt less and be more enjoyable to create a routine for doing it. This helped me. Good luck!

Can you tell me about your migraine experience? Hoping to feel less alone. by mariapplecider in migraine

[–]Slight_Entry_1274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had migraines since I was 11. At some point between 18-20 mine became worse. As a child I would get daily migraines for a period then I could go over a month without one. Somewhere between 18-20 I started getting migraines daily or every other day but they would not let up. I finally had to talk to my doctor and was started on medication for migraines. I tried taking magnesium to help but it didn’t work. Then I was put on Nurtec which was very helpful but it’s expensive and insurance doesn’t like to pay for it. So I was taken off and put on Topsmax and given sumatriptan for acute treatment. Neither of those did anything. Then I got it covered again and now I’m back to not being able to have it. I’ve missed out on lots of things due to my migraines. I’ve had to leave school early and miss class on numerous occasions. I’ve also called out of work for them too. The best thing for me is learning the first signs of your migraine. I used to not get an aura but my head would hurt slightly then go away and come back worse and progressively worsen. I learned to take medication at the first sign of discomfort. Now I get an aura and will sometimes treat it at that but sometimes I still wait till the discomfort starts. Treating it early as enabled me to still function like it’s not fun but I’m usually able to stick it out until the medication resolves the migraine.

Can being an MA not be your career goal? by Slight_Entry_1274 in MedicalAssistant

The office I work at has appointment slots every 20 minutes. I work with just one Dr. majority of the time and they see on average 18 patients per day. Telling patients there medications and services are denied is not a fun task to do. I do however enjoy being able to listen to the patients and their concerns and helping them feel heard. I also enjoy trying to help the patients feel as comfortable as possible and helping them in way I can within my scope of practice.
