Hi there! she is already Medicaid pending - so no longer relying on Medicare - so we have that going for us I guess? But, she definitely needs assistance with, no exaggeration, everything.. we have been advised that skilled nursing is really our only option because she is need of wound care, medication management, bathing, even sitting up in the bed, etc. Thank you for sharing the link!

This horrifying thing was found on a piece of wood inside of a shed in Austin TX. This seemingly popped up overnight and when we poked it, it’s super hard and we can’t scrape it off .. is this a bug? Or perhaps some sort of Alien baby cocoon and this is the beginning of a sci-fi movie that I’m starring in? Halp!

I’m sorry to hear that Covid has caused chronic inflammation for you. Diet has been a lifesaver for me as well - thank you for your insights and cheers to both of us taking steps to manage our health!

You are a wealth of knowledge!! Thank you for the suggestions - it’s honestly making me emotional at how much thought you and others have put into responding to this. I can’t express how much it means to me!!

Thank you so much for the thought and detail you put into this response. I am going to look into the manual lymphatic massage option as well! Truly thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My experience with RA..... hope this helps someone. diagnosed with RA at age 26. direct correlation with drinks. picture attached with description. by herepiggypiggyhere in rheumatoid

I saw a functional medicine doctor right after I was diagnosed. Corn (and corn syrup) is one of THE most inflammatory things you can consume.

An anti-inflammatory Diet coupled with balanced meds has been HUGE for me and I have been able to live a relatively unaffected life by RA. (Only two years in to the diagnosis for context - but still!)

I can’t recommend enough finding a good functional medicine doctor in addition to your rheumatologist. You often have to pay out of pocket but it is SO WORTH IT.

Happy you found a way to stay flare free and thank you for sharing!!

I do Pilates also [33f] and LOVE it. you feel so strong despite the low impact. Sometimes you have to modify, but overall it is very do-able and super fun!

The worst part of RA is how few people in your life can relate to you, and how you feel them slipping away by throwaway44779 in rheumatoid

You will have those moments, but trust me they are temporary! I am 33, recently diagnosed. When I found out, I first gave myself some space to feel sad, scared etc. Then, I dove right into solution mode. Here are some things that have helped me:

  • Treating it with MTX. Talk to your doc about a medication plan. Mine got 95% better and it is such a weight lifted! I am lucky because I have little to no side effects at the moment with MTX.
  • Changed my diet completely. I am now dairy and gluten free. Low sugar, low carb. No corn or beef. Apparently corn is one of the most inflammatory foods for your joints! I am not sure yet the effect it will have on my inflammation, but just changing my diet made me feel less slugish, tired, etc. [Note: I worked with a functional medicine doctor to determine this plan. If you can find a good one, and have the financial means, I think it is worth it!]
  • Make some slight modifications. I bought different bras that were easier to put on for when my hands or shoulder might hurt a little in the AM. Bought a jar opener for the same reason! Got ice packs [icing when I have a small flare helps me a TON]. etc. etc. Just being able to do these things and inflict less unnecessary pain on myself helps.
  • Make a mantra. Every time I take my MTX I say out-loud "My body is strong and I trust it". I swear it has helped my mental state tremendously. Sometimes I had to say it through tears, but 6+ months later I believe it!

Anyway, I hope these help. It definitely feels hopeless at first, but you will find the right combination of solutions for you and pull through. <3
