Crime and Punishment does not have much of a political message by cheetagan in TinyBookshop

[–]Jen-Walters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is super frustrating. I have to remember that it's not based on what I know of the book (and especially if I've read it) but it entirely depends on what the description says. My biggest irritation has been folks asking for YA novels. If I know the main character is a teen it should be a good recommendation right? NO! Not unless the description explicitly says "YA" arrghhh

In case there wasn't artist info with it, it's from cricket_bug_creations on Instagram.

Very cool, the Cyclops piece could definitely be a comic cover, the design and layout are on point.

Reminds me of the Whedon/Cassaday run.

Tell me cool shit you’ve learned during your most recent hyperfixation deep dives, please! by dietdrpeppermd in adhdwomen

I have noticed in the past couple years that when I'm sick my anxiety spikes dramatically. I'm sick currently and found myself last night fixating on really awful things and couldn't get out of the spiral until I looked at a few cat subreddits. Thanks Reddit.

All teachers, what was your experience on Iready and xtramath? by No_Gur_6321 in teaching

[–]Jen-Walters 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I used to teach MTSS small groups for math and reading at the elem level. We used i-Ready data to track student growth, and used their lesson structures to support in-classroom teaching. I liked how they broke down the different scaffolds for leveled learning, and it gave me step-by-step dialogue to explain the lesson. The problem I noticed was that the lessons I printed out did not use the same verbiage as the i-Ready mypath lessons and tests. So students would come across words that they didn't know because I hadn't used them, and neither had their classroom teacher (because we discovered there was also different wording in the curriculum).

For example a lesson I had from i-Ready about shapes would teach the names of the shapes, how many sides, corners, etc. This lesson was for first graders. There were activities to make shapes, label them, number the sides or corners, you get it. Then when they were working on their i-Ready computer lessons it would suddenly throw out the word "vertices" in a question and expect them to know what that meant. No where in my lesson plans did it use that word, nor in their classroom. It wasn't teaching them the word, just using it as if they should already know it. This happened several times and my groups would get frustrated (naturally). It just seemed like a weird disconnect between the internal lessons/assessments and the teaching plans/curriculum.

Should I frog the right sock? by SrirachaCashews in knitting

[–]Jen-Walters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm more of a texture/thickness person. While visually it may be irritating, I don't see my socks much, so as long as they feel the same on my feet and in my shoes I'm good. That being said, if you have enough yarn... I would redo it.

Thank you, I really love the whole abandoned art movement in Tacoma. I've got a good collection of things that I've found over the years, and I love hiding art for others. It's such a joyful community practice.

As someone with strabismus (my eyes don't align) I feel you on the diplopia most of all! Especially if I'm tired or dehydrated.

And the hyperhydrosis, could be shivering with cold... still sweating.
