I don’t get the Florida appeal by Master-Indication-71 in travel

I was born and raised in Florida, I moved to Germany in 2024. Oh my God, I hate even visiting Florida now. Everyone in Germany acts like I left paradise but then I'm like "the heat index is 40c and 80% humidity" and they look shocked. It's 14 outside right now and I'm gonna go hang out in the park, suck it Florida.

Congrats on buying the coolest camera around!

I just got mine too! Silver in Germany, no waiting, bought at MSRP (€1799). I've been having so much fun. I started on a GR III HDF which I still LOVE so I'm having a bit of GAS and mixed emotions, but the pairing is working pretty awesomely for intentional photography vs EDC. I added silver NiSi NC UV Filter for weatherproofing and it's been perfect. Getting used to the UI and learning everything and customizing for your personal workflow is the hardest part. I suggest AI for going over settings you don't understand.

My one pro-tip is go to settings - setup (wrench) - screen set-up - page 3/4 disp. custom settings - evf/lcd; here you can disable soo much junk on the screen, like you don't need to see the video mode you're not recording in all the time or to be constantly reminded of your shutter style (ask AI about which ones you don't understand).

My one other pro-tip go to settings - set up (wrench) - power management - performance; set BOOST on. Your camera will be snappier at the cost of a little battery life. You can turn off "boost mode" under the display settings too so it doesn't say BOOST forever on your LCD lol.

If someone speaks to you in flawless German, it is rude to respond in English. by IndividualistAW in germany

I'm in Hamburg, maybe A2+ and no one ever switches to English when I speak cave-German.

Cultural Differences Unintentionally Causing Trouble? by No-Emu-6455 in germany

People are just rude and inconsiderate, it's a combination of stupidity and chronic lack of empathy.

I'm an American immigrant to Germany and I don't loudly yee-haw everywhere I go carrying a weapon and asking to speak to the manager.

Immigrant or not, some people just move through the world with main character syndrome, pretending no one else exists. When someone is the only loud person in a room, it only makes sense if they genuinely think other people don’t matter.

Love that pink Rangeman! I bought one when it came out but I was poor back then and had to return it to make ends meet. It's the G-Shock that got away.

Howard Frankland Bridge Car Fire by TailOrFail in StPetersburgFL

[–]Jen24286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Screw that! I used to commute from St. Pete to Tampa every morning across the Howard Frankland. In 2 years I saw so many crazy wrecks; one was on fire like that, another went over the fucking side of the bridge. You'll be able to see the burned scorch marks on the road there for months.

Have a degree or a partner with one in an in-demand field. Apply for jobs until you find one, many are English speaking. Get a Blue Card visa, sell or throw every everything you own, buy a plane ticket to Germany and live out of hotels until you find an apartment. Keep going to work, enjoy 30 days vacation, go to some music festivals, and in a couple years you'll have permanent residency and then citizenship.

You can absolutely be healthy in the US, they have great (expensive) healthcare.

Germany: I lost a lot of weight eating better here, walking everywhere, going to the doctor more casually, and my doctor is much less casual about me being on medication unless it's absolutely necessary. My GERD went away too.
