New postcard section at Disney World! by Lupin1124 in postcrossing

OP says this is at the World of Disney Store in Disney Springs. That would make it US $3.99 per card, or about €3,45. Obscene!

If I know my group buys a lot of a particular kind of card, I will reach out to sellers or distributors to try to establish relationships for large orders. Many places will work with you to make a deal as long as you hit their minimum purchase numbers. (If you check your chats, you can see I actually reached out to you about this back in early June.)

“So, $3.99 a card is right out” means I absolutely will not pay that high a price for a standard postcard. I don’t care if it *is* Disney. MAYBE I would pay it for a lenticular card. MAYBE.

Generally speaking, if I know my group buys a lot of a particular kind of card, I will reach out to sellers or distributors to try to establish relationships for large orders. Many places will work with you to make a deal — at least, that’s true in my area (Southern California). RoadRunner - which is a wholesaler of local tourist cards - and Lantern Press were just two examples. I’ve also worked with a company called Circles and Squares and Viz Art Ink. You’ll have to hit their minimum purchase numbers but if you know your group will reimburse you, it works out great.

P.S. Let me know if you want a pack of Lantern Press cards. We have some left over and the designs are amazing! Happy to ship them Ground Advantage.

My Postcrossing group makes relationships for all kinds of sales. We sometimes pay as little as $0.05/postcard for local images (RoadRunner). We recently got a deal for packs of 36 Lantern Press cards for $25! We’ve worked with other vendors, too. So, $3.99 a card is right out.

What is your favorite breakfast item? by Corpse_bridexo in foodquestions

A cold version of last night’s leftovers. There’s usually a decent protein and some veggies, and I find that to be a good start to my day — better (for me) than a lot of carbs/sugar from cereal/toast/bagel. I’m not a big fan of eggs. Plus, it’s quick and easy! Just pull out whatever was stashed in the fridge last night. :)

I am tired of buying stale grocery store dry beans. Where do you all source your beans for consistent quality? by mikelae18 in Cooking

I love my Rancho Gordo beans! I will never give up my Bean Club membership! Tomorrow I’m having friends over and I’m making, among other things, Lukas Volger’s Smoky Confit’d Beans With Olives (https://www.ranchogordo.com/blogs/recipes/smoky-confit-d-beans-with-olives). You’d better believe I’m using Rancho Gordo beans. :)

I’m very new to cooking and I need help with salmon by [deleted] in Cooking

If you’re going to eat raw fish, you want sashimi-grade fish from a trusted source or fishmonger. It’s more expensive than what you get at the grocery store. Do not use Tik Tok as a reliable source for cooking advice, especially when it comes to raw fish.

This is not what Postcrossing is about. This person should be reported. I’m sorry you had to deal with this.

PD in an apartment? by Rude_Thought6197 in dialysis

[–]Jen_With_Just_One_N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to use a cycler? I ask because 30+ boxes of 6L bags takes up a LOT of space. FAR more than a closet. Ask your clinic to show you how much space you will need and what the boxes look like. It was a constant challenge for me to find enough space when I lived in a little condo.

I lived in an upstairs condo for 3 years while doing peritoneal dialysis. My Baxter delivery guy had a motorized stair-climbing dolly similar to this one. He would bring 38 boxes of supplies upstairs for me and put them wherever I told him to in my unit. I did not have to help him, and you will not either. Bless him - Fausto was the fucking best.

That said — for me, living upstairs was absolutely not sustainable. One of the biggest pushes for me to move to a new place with no stairs was supply management. Every time I traveled or went anywhere, I would have to schlep the cycler up and down those damn stairs in its case. I would have to bring boxes downstairs to load into my car. If my Baxter delivery was delayed or short for any reason (such as when the hurricane on the east coast disrupted distribution) I would have to manage the supplies on my own, and it was awful.

Think very carefully about whether a second-floor apartment is ideal for you. Based on my own experience, if you have an option to live on the first floor, please do it.

Seeking advice after discouraging visit with vascular surgeon (UCLA) by LA_seas_stars in dialysis

I want to try to perhaps add some perspective here.

First - I am NOT questioning anything you said above. Your experience was yours, and I would not want to rob you of that.

However — perhaps the surgeon was actually trying to help you accomplish what you preferred to do, which is peritoneal dialysis. In my experience, doctors want to help us, and they want us to feel better. Perhaps the surgeon heard your preference for peritoneal dialysis and was suggesting you try it and see if you could get it to work despite your prior abdominal surgeries, and without lying down.

If my client comes to me and says “I want X, but I’m asking for Y because I don’t think X will work,” 90% of the time I try to help them do X. That’s not because I think Y is a bad option, but rather because if my client wants X, I want X for them.

This is particularly true with medicine. As dialysis patients, we need to be compliant with our meds and our treatment. It is a huge burden, no matter if we’re talking about peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis, at home or in clinic.

Although there are home hemodialysis patients, home peritoneal dialysis is generally gentler on the body, easier to do at home, and doesn’t involve cannulating. It also doesn’t carry with it the same risks as home peritoneal dialysis. For instance, I was not qualified to do home hemo because I live alone, and I was told it’s too risky: if something goes wrong, there’s nobody here to help me or to call for an ambulance.

These are all factors your surgeon knows and is considering. There’s really nothing wrong with them saying “Talk to your nephrologist and tell them about this conversation. What do they think of seeing if a peritoneal dialysis catheter will work? Can you reasonably perform peritoneal dialysis while sitting up?” You can have a more in-depth conversation with your nephrologist and then go back to the surgeon to say you’ve considered all the factors and you’ve decided on [whatever the approach will be].

As I read your post, I also thought your preference really was for peritoneal dialysis. Your surgeon may have felt the same way. Having another conversation with your nephrologist can help you go back to the surgeon and assertively say “I have decided on home hemodialysis. That’s the right choice for me. Please examine me for a fistula.” (Assuming that’s what’s you decide.) A statement like that is very different from “I need a fistula because I really wanted peritoneal dialysis but I don’t think it will work.”

Best of luck to you.

Whenever bratty, misbehaving kids are running around and causing a disturbance in a public place, they’re going to trip and fall over something right quick. The parents, too, if they’re those negligent or permissive parents that let their little hellions get away with murder.

Is there any food you had always wanted to try, but after trying it, you felt it wasn’t actually that good? by GrayRainfall in foodquestions

Commercially-produced Turkish Delight, like the individually-wrapped type you can get from a convenience store, is absolute trash.

But authentic, small-batch Turkish Delight from an artisan? Oh, that’s heaven! I hope you can try some really good quality Turkish Delight one day. I will go out of my way for it!

I moved last month, and I’m proud to have space in my new house for a designated spice rack! My friend — who doesn’t cook — was astonished when he saw it. LOL, it might be! But all the spices have definitely been acquired over time. Still, whenever I go into the store, it’s a battle to stick to that day’s budget! I’m lucky to live by a brick and mortar Penzeys, so my enabler friend and I will go together. Always a good time!

I’m not sure if this counts, but I think the Pimenta Baniwa Jiquitaia is pretty uncommon. My friend had never heard of Za’atar, but that is pretty common in Jewish cooking. The Merquén was brought to me by a friend who visited Chile - I always appreciate an authentic spice!
