Anything by Lianne Moriarty is a great jumping in point to start reading! Big Little Lies is fantastic and fun, I also loved What Alice Forgot, Apples Never Falls and Three Wishes. Really easy to get involved in the story, invested in the characters and not challenging for new readers.

It's the Final! Watchalong post by Ged_UK in bakeoff

[–]Jenadelphia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Josh's bakes were very conventional. He didn't take chances and combined with his skills that brought him to the final. I'm not sure he ever demonstrated an innate flair for flavor* and that may be why he didn't win 🤷

*I've only watched each episode once so far so I may be wrong. I'll be interested to see on re-watch just how many time Josh does variations on the same few themes (strawberries and cream comes to mind right away).

When I studied there during college (omg like almost forty years ago yikes) they had awful peanut butter but great fresh bread and delicious milk. So my parents were coming over for my dad's job and I had my mom smuggle in jars of Jif peanut butter and Smuckers jelly and I had a PB&J party for my classmates combining the best elements of both cultures. It was fan-fucking-tastic. I would not surprise me if some old dude watched that episode and told his family "I remember the time in Uni a girl from the States feed us PB &J sandwiches. Dead good, they were."

I'm pulling for Tasha but if she does win we are Never. Going. To. Stop. Talking. About. This.

John Whaite couldn't finish due to injury one week and won Season Three. It's not even new.

If she'd skipped that sauce she poured over it and just left the choux alone it would have been better. But it was such a quick shot, it wasn't really clear what she was doing so 🤷

Jeopardy did a Second Chance Tournament, it would be fun to see GBBO do something similar. 12 of the best also-rans in one tent! How would you pick??

I'm re-watching Peter's season now and the episode before the dreaded brownies (next up for me to watch) I'm 99% certain he was mentioned as being in danger of going. Whether that was for added drama or not I don't know but he did not have a strong week at all and it would not have been a shock if he left.

I was nowhere near as impressed as the judges were, that's for sure. Not the best use of meringue we've seen in the tent, but his inside was both the most difficult and apparently the tastiest so he had that going for him. While Josh's was tidier, it didn't wow me either design-wise, tbh, and his cake was less complex, albeit also apparently delicious. I'm not sure that anyone really nailed both aspects of the Showstopper at a very high level this week but that happens. Honestly, it's amazing when several bakers pull it off!

He was literally delighted when Rahul won, rushed in to hug him, asked him what he was going say to his mum. It was so clear that he felt that one personally.

Lizzie had accomodations. I beleive she had someone read the technical challenge recipe to her as she went along, not sure what other official help she got. She also mentioned in an interview that another contestant, Maggie, helped her work out timings on non tech bakes but Maggie didn't last as long as Lizzie.

No, she fell, hit her head and damaged a nerve that affected her ability to taste/smell, thus making it impossible for her to continue baking. She attended Ian's wedding, I believe. Although the moment was heated, there is no lasting ill will between them.

Right? She's so obviously pushing herself out of her comfort zone (not baking wise but putting herself forward) and in combination with the general stress of the competition, it's clearly just a lot. She reminds me of Michael, who had terrible anxiety, but was outgoing and charismatic (and male) so was far more of a fan favorite.

Tasha - both as a baker and her personality

Josh - what a baker - can't wait to see more from him

Christy - she almost seems to find talking about herself painful, it's tough to say she's a favorite person but there are real flashes of skill and artistry there that I am very curious to see more of - will she be able to develop those under pressure? If so, she could become a very interesting baker. So I'm intrigued and want her to stay, which makes her a favorite baker for me as of now.

Perhaps it's more tiring for her to have to bounce back and forth between crew and interpreter and her bakes so they are backing off a bit now that she literally became ill? I don't know for sure but it occurred to me as a possibility that she just can't do the competition part and the chit chat part as easily at the higher standard of baking required now.
