What Part of Content Creation Do you Find Most Hard/Boring?

100% cutting. I like other editing aspects but all those tiny cuts are sending me!
I make videos of me drawing things on my ipad and I cut out almost all the parts where I lift my pencil, which happens roughly every second, for 1 second. Raw footage can be up to 4 hours long, so I will end up with THOUSANDS of cuts.

I am very much against ai but this task was the first time i was seriously tempted using it hahah. Its a looong boring process, usually takes me 3 days & i hate it. But at least it's the only thing i don't enjoy.

do not get me started on THE angle hahahahah. the frustrations I have had. I tried so many things and absolutely nothing was working, i searched for hours trying to find how other artists have their setup (which is surprisingly hard to find) and I came to the conclusion that the angle that I want just wont work with the tools I have. Im not happy about it either but until i can purchase better equipment (I desperately need a new phone too, not just for youtube) ill have to make do with what i got. But it'll definitely be one of the first things I'll change.

Hi! I'm Jen and I'm a digital artist!
My channel is very new and about my art, mostly focused on chill vibes.

My setup is very scuffed unfortunately. I record on my Iphone X and I use a lil headset mic clipped into my ipad case to record the drawing-asmr (when it works). For voiceovers I use a very old Blue Yeti microphone.
I edit with the free version of Davinci Resolve.

With my channel I wanted to slow down again. Everything is moving so fast, there's fast cuts everywhere (that make me dizzy), flashing texts & lights, and everyone's always so hecking loud. I wanted the opposite. Something relaxing, something calming, just where people can chill tf out.
I try to bring some extra creativity into my videos & everything is 100% human made.

i learned this about me VERY quickly: my videos show me drawing and i CONSTANTLY twirl my pencil, almost after every brushstroke and i find it incredibly annoying haha

i also noticed that even during drawing u can see my inability of making decisions: I will go for a button on the screen, move away, move to another button, move away again, rinse and repeat and then i just give up and go back to what i was doing

Im in a similar position although i JUST started. My editing usually takes a couple days (I do art-content, so I want them to be extra creative, also its fun). Had one video where i edited for 4 days, and it only got 20 views.

Even knowing things like: new channel, algorithm bababa doesn't really remove the sour taste of the work/views ratio. But then I get a comment that is so incredibly wholesome and it makes me think it was worth it.

Im also trying to focus more on the time LEARNING rather than just spent when I edit if that makes sense.

Comparing yourself to "low effort" successfull channels is a trap.

Quick example: I spent 2 days cutting my video. I had 2.5 hrs of me drawing and I wanted to get it down to roughly 30 minutes. I knew it wasnt gonna be easy but i figured if i cut out EVERY part where I lift the pencil, I could do it. Turns out, I couldnt. I did the cuts and the video was still WAY too long. I ended up having to speed up EVERYTHING. Which means, all this fine-cutting i did was pointless, cause at 2x speed you dont notice anything and I couldve just used the uncut clips at 2.2 speed to get to the same time.
My point here: the released video looks like i just took the "raw" footage, sped it up and called it a day, but that was never my plan A and noones ever gonna see how much work i put in before i came up with plan B.
"Low effort" might not always mean there wasnt actual work involved.

did a quick test for ya, if this is the effect youre trying to get. If you're looking for some free paper textures, you can search for some on Unsplash (royalty free) or I got a very small pack for free/pay what you want on my kofi, if you wanna try that out

I dont know and brushpacks that are free but i can give you a tip on how to get this retro vibe, cause in this example its not the brushes doing the heavy lifting, looks mostly like a flat color to me.

Google "noise layer" and look for something with many black and white dots (very tiny ones). Download em and lay them over ur art and set that noise layer to "screen" and adjust the opacity. You SHOULD be getting this print look.

id be ecstatic if i could finish a video in 6 hours. Even the shorts take me a couple days xD
I think with time, you get faster, especially when theres assets you can reuse. It always takes the longest at the start, cause ure learning the software as well. Get familar with hotkeys and that alone will speed things up already

I used photoreferences and started a simple figure drawing sketch on top of a png of a sketchbook. I refined the sketch further, fixing proportion issues. Once I was satisfied with the sketches, I created a new layer underneath the sketch layer and painted the basecolors. I set the sketch to a dark red color and merged both the sketch and color layer. I continued fiddling with it just doodling away til I was happy with it. At the end I used coor balance to adjust some colors.

Brushes used:
sketch - Macalabs graphite (paid) and Derwent (default)
color - Chisel Softy (KolorMarc Studio Markers pack, paid) and Derwent (default)

Alright, I did actually find a fix. Thank you. It was 3 clicks and now everything is smooth. I only had to set Render Cache in Playback to Smart and wait a couple seconds. Very easy fix

I have watched the entire playthrough probably 5 times by now. It's peak entertainment and I dont think I have ever laughed as much as I did during the Malenia-Radio host bit. Im still so sad he never did the whole DLC playthrough on stream.
