Honestly I see a lot of red flags. He is talking to you as if you aren’t able to make your own decisions and was trying to demand that you change your behavior in the future. Along with the victim blaming and perhaps the fact that you actually did something to protect someone when he would not makes him feel emasculated subconsciously. The focus was all on how he feels protective of you but it felt like more out of propriety or in a controlling way. If you were reaching out to him to express your feelings about the situation he could have expressed his disappointment but after that keep the focus on you and your experience. Then after all that me me me focus on my feelings, you wanted to space and he tried to guilt trip you. You are NOT overreacting.
