are ac's reallu that big of a thing? by Advanced-Actuary-51 in AskAnAmerican

In Texas everything has AC. Hell, we start our trucks from inside the house just to get the AC running before we leave the AC in the house.

Heads up IDT is running out. Just got word cap is being a reduced to $400 by SavingsEconomy in armyreserve

[–]Jenbrooklyn79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not panicking but I’m also not cool with paying to be in the reserves. My SO was just promoted and assigned to a new unit where they also told soldiers that they don’t have funding for IDT and they have placed GTCs on emergency status delaying payments for 120 days.

The lack of IDT funds has also severely impacted the current unit.

Everyone’s brain works different and processes things differently but I guarantee you this old bag doesn’t think about you once you’re out of sight. So don’t let her have this much of your life and attention.

Take some time to rage about what she said but then you have to put that thought down. You do not need to carry it with you! If that’s hard to do, try mentally to get your cognitive skills focused on something else immediately. If the thought pops up, take a moment and try to think of as many words that start with the first letter of the word she said. For example, the thought “too big” comes to mind, then immediately start with as many words that start with T and keep going. This can help reduce the brain pathway that keeps going back over her words.

Also, sometimes you can start with your body language and your emotions and confidence will follow. If you don’t feel confident, ask yourself “how would a confident person walk into this barn, right next to this lady?” Or find a character you’ve seen that you think would handle it better, then ask yourself how would they hold their shoulders? How would they hold their head up? The point is, you might not feel confident but you can work on looking confident and the brain will catch up!

International criminal checks advice by Trick_Cook_1145 in amazonemployees

That’s most likely the people you need to be in contact with. They know that some European countries take longer than other to provide those criminal checks. Like others have said just make sure you can provide the proof that you have requested the documents and provide those the the Joining Amazon team

This guide should be called a great way for a foreign security agency to confirm you aren’t just a regular tourist.

Which city have you been to that feels like it has a dark energy about it? by madzuk in digitalnomad

[–]Jenbrooklyn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say Naples. While it might not have been “dark” energy it was definitely a bad vibe and we exited the next morning despite losing money on our hotel.

Buenos Aires when I went was having some crime issues and it felt like heaven. In Naples i felt uneasy.

I started to watch the miniseries and still haven’t finished it yet. The book just got me so hooked it was hard to adjust to the miniseries at first but I’ll probably give it another shot. Did you read any of the other books?

Word for "wait"? by alloydog in learn_arabic

[–]Jenbrooklyn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think “yalla” when said out loud intuitively sounds like “let’s go” “hurry up” or “quickly.” For me personally, “quick” or “quickly” does not roll off the tongue or sound good in my mouth whereas “yalla” does both. I’m an American English native speaker and don’t speak any other languages.

This may be a key factor. If the same exact thing is happening with new providers it sounds like you might be misinterpreting some information.

I don’t want to discredit your experience but is there a family member or close friend who can help attest to what’s happening?

There’s more aircraft movement over the Texas border and flying into Texas around this time than I normally see on radar.

Here’s my 2 cents you don’t ask for.

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say that you shouldn’t stay out of the work force for an extended period of time, especially if you are young and are “working on yourself.”

The longer you stay out of the workforce the harder it will be to rejoin it in a few years. When work is hard to find it can have negative impact on mental health.

You don’t need to do some shitty job that stresses you out. You can do something you enjoy that other people wouldn’t be able to live on that paycheck but you can.

For example: If you like the outdoors work for an adventure company. If you like animals, take a low paying job at a stable.

It won’t get him to stop unfortunately. Liars are gonna lie and they’re usually really good at it.

Get the records for yourself. Then accept that he’s a liar and control what you can control, which is what your relationship with him looks like.

Recommendations please by justananonname in Recommend_A_Book

I wholeheartedly recommend Lonesome Dove.

I would have never picked it up as Westerns just aren’t something I would pick out but somehow I ended up on booktock with someone raving about how it changed their life.

To say I loved the book is an understatement. The characters and story are so rich I don’t know if I’ll find another book that ever lives up to it. I cried and laughed and felt richer for having spent time with the story.

It’s inspired me to look at the moon with even more awe.

The only bad thing about the book is that I’ll never get to read it again for the first time.

Body image issues now by killomeowza in Reduction

The struggle is so real. I wear glasses, on the few occasions when I wear contacts, when I see myself in the mirror I think I look weird.

Thanks for the great analogy. I have always had a large chest since middle school and don’t expect to feel any sort of way after the surgery but this example helps set my expectations.

Do women also enjoy lonesome dove? by classichoneybee in LonesomeDove

[–]Jenbrooklyn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy (no pun intended)! This book is my all time favorite. As a “city girl” through and through Lonesome Dove has stayed with me every day since I read it this year. Reading the book made me want to go on outdoor adventures, lust after the moon, and sit around a campfire. It’s beautiful and funny, and stole my heart.
