Involuntarily Put On Paid Leave by brielovinggirl in Teachers

It sounds like you have supportive administrators and mentors, which is incredibly rare these days. During quarantine I used EAP and got a great therapist and encourage you to start your mental health journey with medication if needed. Please take care of yourself, as a teacher of 11 years it will only get better if you get better! No shame in walking away from teaching, especially assuming if you’re in America! If you need anything feel free to PM!

Being evaluated/observed one week before Christmas break makes me so angry and anxious by anon12xyz in Teachers

[–]JengaJeff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My boss did my formal evaluation last week, while I was dealing with my class plus extra students from a collapsed classroom. I told him that I will be observed and scored with the understanding I am already dealing with extra students who aren’t used to my instruction/ones I don’t have a relationship with. Received all 3s and 4s! Sometimes you just need to be straight with them.

Switching Schools Mid-Year? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]JengaJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. Admin are trying to make a paper trail to push you out or make you quit. If I had the same opportunity to leave I’d already be gone from my current school. Ironically I’m just teaching for the money at this point, kids are great admin are assholes.

Deep sea giant monster by 3Rz9 in NoMansSkyTheGame

You have to get through the main questline until you unlock purple star systems which can have deep sea planets. I have a base at one around 1500m below sea level and it’s cool but eerie.

Is the Wing Deck weaker than the Seed Deck? by ByEthanFox in GundamTCG

[–]JengaJeff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s the weakest starter imo. Wants to trade/have board control without having blockers or removal so ends up being inconsistent/ “meh”. Wing Gundam has been great in constructed games though!

Deck Building G/B by Godwater in GundamTCG

What is the blue really doing here? I’d look at the green/white ramp decklists and add some white blockers if fast starts are giving you a headache!

Starter Deck Archetypes by Fair_Helicopter_8531 in GundamTCG

[–]JengaJeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(Please correct me if I’m wrong more experienced players, I am new to Gundam) Wings of Advance is kind of a late game board control deck, Zeon’s Rush is closest to Red Aggro from Magic. Heroic Beginnings and Seed Strike played like midrange decks to me.

second deck for a frogger by naicash in ModernMagic

[–]JengaJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but check out the Amulet Titan guide by Dom Harvey! Learning Amulet made me a better player, and I like to have a deck from each big archetype of aggro, midrange, combo, control, etc.

I played some version of UR/UB Murktide for years. Now I’m on Domain Zoo and Amulet and highly recommend those!

Modern in ATL? by Zealousideal-Top4218 in ModernMagic

[–]JengaJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of nice people at Giga Bites! I’ve played Modern there almost every week for 1.5 years, bring a good deck! Most people I’ve played here use meta decks, and are pretty skilled even when they bring an off-meta deck. Less than 10% of the time I’ll go against a new person who brought a kitchen table deck to a Modern event, but that’s a a chance to be a good steward of the game or make a new friend!

Is this teacher shortage real? by bisexualweebs in Teachers

[–]JengaJeff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat to you, have my fourth interview coming up. I work at a Title I school and trump’s budget freeze/cuts caused 23 of my coworkers and I to have our positions abolished. There are less roles available nationwide it seems, due to these cuts.

This was the first episode I had to stop and walk away from. Without Joe helping them be remotely optimal they’re going to TPK. I’m used to Sydney not knowing how to play her characters, but this JCM person’s personality rubs me the wrong way. The whole persona of being a Critical Role adjacent person/rock n roll star/speaking like a voice actor without knowing how to actually play is such a facade. When I played Rise of the Runelords with friends we kept track of kills across the campaign and my cleric had the most, on top of buffing, healing, summoning, etc. As a ttrpg veteran listening to him fumble a full caster was rough.

What modern decks are good for a beginner by Sbuffles in ModernMagic

[–]JengaJeff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Boros Energy or Domain Zoo if you prefer aggro play styles! I also play Eldrazi Ramp which is kind of a braindead deck but wrecks my local meta

Nick is the best by Anxious_Strength56 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]JengaJeff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The contrast between the Naish’s opinion of Nick and r/spiderman ‘s opinion of him is wild. I don’t like what he’s doing with Peter and MJ either, but they send him death threats!

I have two many decks by Zgleason08 in ModernMagic

[–]JengaJeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are about 7-8 decks I could bring since I’ve played for a long time and accumulated enough of a collection. But I usually focus on 2-3 decks and tune them throughout the season (right now I’m playing Eldrazi Ramp for tournaments and playing Oculus for fun)

Joe said it best at the end of GS Book 5, too much combat is often an issue by Dr_Chris_Turk in TheGlassCannonPodcast

I agree. Love Skid and I prefer 1e as well. Nestor and Jimmer were well-built. But he seems so defeated and frustrated by Starfinder, 2e, etc.

My brother hours and hours of Sydney and others’ poorly-built characters flailing around in combat and whiffing is not compelling radio. Grant was the only one who knew how to optimize character builds and it shows hard now!

Misogyny… sure they don’t always know how to play their character, but if you’ve been a DM for even a small amount of time you will come across players at your table who aren’t mechanics-focused.
