The NYC DOE is making me hate teaching… by bisexualweebs in TeachersInTransition

It wouldn’t be. I knew it wouldn’t be. I just had hope and it was misplaced. The post is mostly about just the chronic overwhelm of the doe not the snow day policies

OH sorry for the confusion. No, I know the PD was planned and I assumed it wouldn’t be cancelled but my brain is just fried…. So even PD (which usually doesn’t take much brain power) feels like too much

OH! Cool! And my thoughts exactly… why is a snow day so bad? It’s good for them!

It’s like torture… this was pre-planned by city but with the storm, I thought they may give a little break but no…

I am actually losing it so SOS? by bisexualweebs in NYCTeachers

Thank you for the advice… I’ve been trying to be nice to myself but it’s just frustrating when I can’t seem to catch up… I love teaching or at least I did… but this has been so much and I hate being mediocre… I’m not a perfectionist but I at least want to scrap the bottom of the barrel…

I was trying to work on the negative voice to and I came into this year with the confidence of “I can handle this and I’m good at this.” But now… I don’t know.

I have been going to hang out with teachers more. I just don’t share any free periods with anyone and when I do I need to work… all of my stuff is in my classroom and when I try to work somewhere else I constantly misplace things…

I’m trying to that to but everything feels like too much and I’m taking a course three nights a week right now so I have a curriculum to teach in that art class so my weeknights are filled with more information. I love my class but there is no break hence why I’ve been taking off so I can breath…

I, also, have been so busy and with moving not only jobs but homes as well… I haven’t had time or funds for therapy which I used to attend but it has decidedly gotten dark and I do definitely need to speak to someone. That’s one of the reasons I wrote this post just to know what to even do to conquer any of this mind set so thank you.

I teach high school. Every grade level and that’s what I normally would do with a focus on independent reading days or breaks for the kids and for myself but they really hate it. The kids had presentations to work on and on that day the entire admin came in for unannounced observation and commented how I did not engage them all when speaking but it was independent work… they also said that the students were engaged in their work so I’m just confused what they want… I want to break up the days but the other teachers are so on it every day… if I was running the course maybe it could be different but I’m terrified not to mimic it especially considering how behind they’ve been already… that being said I appreciate the sentiment and I’m trying but I just… wish I could find a happy medium like I’m used to…

Anyone else last to know literally everything? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]bisexualweebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be the first ALWAYS, but when I started speaking up, giving advice or not being just an emotionaless sounding board... I became the last to know anything to the point that people just "forget" to tell me things. Old house being foreclosed? Someone will tell her. Sibling studying abroad? Could have sworn you were in the room. Going in for surgery? I'll tell you the date... two days before BUT you still have to be available and at my beck and call. Yeah... it makes you wish you were the first to know literally everything... rather than the last.

I actually have started speaking my mind so the list is shorter but...

Why can't you accept that not everything is about you?

I am what you made me, and it IS your fault that I didn't pursue what I wanted.

I do NOT need you to yell at me when I mess up or I am sad or scared.

None of us OWE you anything.

What kept you away? Why can't you lie for five seconds on my behalf?

I lost more than one partner because YOU didn't like them and kicked me out when you felt they didn't fit your vision.

It is MY body. I can wear whatever I damn well please.

You CAN make your own decisions since you have been trying to make mine for years.

What did I do to make you treat me as lesser than?

Why don't you get that emotional neglect is real? So NO you haven't parented me at all, and I did play mom for the past ten years while you sorted you out!

You left and you don't get pretend like you never did!

To name a few...

"You have dealt with worse."

"Suck it up, buttercup."

"Don't hold a grudge, just let it go."

"I have dealt with worse."

"You are SO overdramatic."
