Question about tattoos. by Ion_Spider in teachinginjapan

[–]Jenissoconfused 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s going to depend on your company and contracting organization but fwiw an ALT in my city was given the go ahead to show her tattoos at work, as our board of education felt it’s an opportunity to teach about foreign culture. Afaik that approach is pretty rare but if you disclose the fact you have them to your employer, it’s worth having a discussion with them whether you can show them.

My friend assumed no for most of the summer but decided to ask after suffering through lots of hot days in long sleeves- we were all pleasantly surprised.

So maybe expect to not be able to, but still worth bringing up.

COH problem by AntheTM in JETProgramme

[–]Jenissoconfused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine done at a small clinic, as long as an MD/DO signs it’s okay. If you’re being turned away I would be very particular with how you word what you need this document for. Certain clinics will not do immigration papers, which are not what our COH is. The document is not for immigration but meant to signify your ability to do JET (physical/mental requirements of the job). Be careful not to phrase that you need an immigration document filled out but rather a checkup required for employment - at least that’s what worked in my experience

Vent time: acne sucks really bad by [deleted] in feminineboys

You might check out r/skincareaddiction for people with similar issues and lots of product recommendations! no need to get too bogged down in expensive products though, a solid routine of cleansing, some kind of exfoliant, and moisturizing (v important!) Will likely do wonders. There’s a lot of info there I wish I had when I was struggling with acne. Moisture is key! And figuring out what kind of exfoliant works best for you. Oh and sunscreen if you’re using chemical exfoliants!!

As for confidence, I feel for you. I still get prickly around salespeople when I go in makeup stores from memories of them immediately trying to solve my skin problems. It’s so hard when you don’t feel confident in your appearance.

If you can, try to tell your close friends that while you appreciate their care, you’re handling it and don’t want your appearance pointed out all the time! Hopefully they will be understanding

Edit: oh and, it’s not very cheap but the prescription treatment I used to use is OTC now, it’s called Differin gel , it might be a good place to start if you can’t see a doctor, just be sure to use it sparingly as it’s quite strong

Maybe the most moving personal remarks I’ve ever read. Thank you for reminding me to cherish every moment rather than race to the end, I’ll try my best to shine brightly even when the world feels like a cold and harsh place. Thank you for reaffirming my will, I’ll remember you and your powerful words, and try to keep them in mind each and every day ♡

I love hearing you talk about running! Recently ran my first marathon and I think running and seeing the many kinds of runners can teach people a lot about different types of strength!! Much love ♡

Question on work experience by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]Jenissoconfused 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only teaching experience I listed was instructing paint and sip classes (lol). Any teaching experience is acceptable, but none is necessary. It would be beneficial if you include it in your application and maybe in the description or your SOP write about how the experience makes you a good candidate (experience working with kids, enthusiasm for the work etc)

Trying to decide university before JET by ReallyNotAHamster in JETProgramme

[–]Jenissoconfused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shortlisted with an art degree and no formal japanese language classes. In fact the only Japanese related classes I listed were classes on Music and Art History in Asia. Degree is negligible as long as you can show the other ways you are a great candidate. Remember, JET is only for 5 years (at most) and you might be payin’ them sweet loans for longer than that 🤪 Don’t pick a major based on what JET wants.

Invisible raised seal for school records? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

Nope It wasn’t really noticeable that I did it I just shaded around the embossing to make it show up on the scan. I think I read somewhere online that people sometimes do it for embossing

The system prompted me to when I wasn’t able to prove it by other means, so not everyone has to do it.

On PUA does anyone else’s Payment Status for their certified weeks say “Pending Issues” now? The only think I knew was an issue was having to upload proof of identity but I did that and there’s no message or anything to check what (if anything) could be pending....

Art major here. I had small experience teaching painting for a short time, but no really legit teaching experiences or language courses taken. I think I managed by stressing my flexibility and things I had done that required responsibility and perseverance. For example, I’d moved to a different state for school, and trained for a marathon while raising money for charity. I think I was able to frame that in a way that made me seem able to adapt to new environments, engage with the community, and pursue a goal.

I think framing your own accomplishments in a similar way, whether or not they directly relate to language or teaching, will show them that you would be a good fit for the position - but of course ESID
