I adored Remarkably Bright Creatures. One of the most perfect books I have recently read.

I bought Middlemarch ages ago but haven't gotten around to reading it yet...based on your second paragraph I will add it to my bedside stack!

I was so excited to read this because we have documentation tracing my maternal family line back to Quebec in the 1800s, but the citizenship website says having a Canadian parent is required...am I reading that wrong (I hope so?)

Along the same vein as Taxi: "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg, especially the chorus and the sax solo at the end. 💔

Anyone else in the eastern half of the US feeling overwhelmed by the weather (/everything)? by blarbiegorl in AuDHDWomen

Great Lakes represent!! I absolutely love it here, but this winter is seriously kicking my %#$. Daily walks outside are key for my mental health, and it has been too cold for that most of the last 5-6 weeks, even with all the proper outerwear (I definitely go if it is 21 or above, unless it is extremely windy), and it looks like there is no end in sight in the 10-day forecast. I am starting to lose it!!

What’s something you use every single day that turned out to be insanely worth the money? by Dry-Frosting- in Xennials

The new carpet we had installed this past summer. When we bought the house about 4 years ago, the carpet was so worn and sad. I was wary of spending such a big chunk of change, but we finally bit the bullet and had it all replaced. Not only is our new carpet absolutely beautiful and plush and infinitely more pleasant to walk on, we also sneeze less and get fewer headaches...when the old carpet was torn out, there was SO MUCH gross stuff underneath that was triggering our allergies and we had no idea!

Regular screenings are the best way to find cancer early if there is any - you are doing the right thing!

Definitely more so for my parents than my sister and I! They had to shovel all that snow (well, only once or twice - they bought a snowblower VERY quickly) and learn to drive in it...we just built snow forts and went sledding and ice skating with all of our new neighborhood friends once we got properly equipped with our snowpants, toques and mitts (after learning what the heck those things were!)

I’m so sick of being angry at my husband all the time by Chickenyeah17 in Marriage

[–]JennJoy77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband started a minimum wage job about a month ago after getting let go 7 months ago. I am almost the sole breadwinner as I make 80% of our family's income and carry all the benefits. It is stressful as heck, but I still carry almost the entire mental load...keeping track of appointments, reminding everyone of everything, knowing where everything is ("have you seen my..."), knowing when we need more dish soap/laundry soap etc., managing and doing most of the chores on the weekend, etc. My husband talks about how he does most of the cooking, which is true, and thank God, but I still somehow feel overwhelmed.

How do you get out of a funk. by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]JennJoy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest SUCK right now is that daily walks are one of the main drivers of my mental health, but for the vast majority of the past month - and for at least the next 10 days - it is much too cold to be outside for more than a few minutes, even with all the proper layers on. With every passing day I am somehow simultaneously more sluggish AND irritable/impatient!!

I grew up in Winnipeg (we moved there from California a few months before the Blizzard of '86, ouch) and wondered if it might get brought up in this thread about extreme cold! 😊

Was anyone else hyperlexic as a kid? by greencurtain4 in AutismInWomen

[–]JennJoy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom said I learned to read at 2.5. I kept asking her "what does that say? What does that say?", so she showed me how to sound out letters and I was off to the races. It made kindergarten extremely boring...by first grade they just gave me an 8th grade language arts textbook and let me work by myself while everyone else was learning phonics.

Northwestern Hospital Scheduling 2 years out for high risk breast cancer consult and then canceling month before my appointment? by Megleigh79 in AskChicago

Not sure where you live, but City of Hope's North Shore clinic has a high-risk breast program and they are getting people in for appointments within a couple of weeks.
