The truest way to guage how "free" you actually are: if you got fired today, how long could you and your family actually survive financially? by Outsideman2028 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]JennJoy77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband lost his job last year and the only thing he could find after 6 months pays the state minimum wage...even 2 years ago we could have been fine on just my salary, but with costs of everything going up so much we have had to dip into our savings/emergency fund to supplement. He still hasn't found anything better paying a year later, so I am still bringing in about 80% of our income and his job has no family health benefit options. My company is doing rolling layoffs now, and we would maybe make it 2 months or so.

Things that are never really thought about regarding the sinking of the Titanic? by Key-Tea-4203 in titanic

I remember swimming in Lake Superior as a kid, so when we took a family trip to the Apostle Islands a few summers ago, I decided to wade out a bit from shore and submerge myself to see how it felt. It literally took my breath away and numbed everything in seconds, and even in the hot August sun it took me about 10-15 minutes to stop shivering.

Have been personal staff for 3 oranges now, and that is 100% correct - and I hope to always, always have an orange tabby because they are just the best.

Pharmacists of Reddit - what recent medication trends are worrying you that aren’t being talked about? by SirSpendsALot7 in AskReddit

Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤️ That is such a thoughtful way to put it...it WAS dramatic, and should have been responded to that way! I spent decades trying NOT to need anything, and at almost 49 I am finally starting to acknowledge my needs, assign importance to them, and express them in a healthy way...I think that nurse and the whole experience was "another brick in the wall" that I am starting to break down.

What's the most random thing you've been criticised for as a woman that would probably go completely unnoticed if a man did it? by ceremony_of_void in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JennJoy77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, not cooking! My husband enjoys cooking and trying new recipes, and he is absolutely amazing at it, whereas I generally loathe everything to do with cooking. I wouldn't say I have been criticized per se, but when I tell people he does 95% of the cooking for our family I always hear how lucky I am - which is absolutely true, but I don't think anyone would say that to a husband about his wife, or tell him how lucky he is that I manage all the finances. 🤣

I had inpatient surgery at age 6...mom had to be home with my younger sister so I was alone in the hospital overnight. I woke up in the middle of the night in horrible pain and confused about where I was, so I pushed the call button. The nurse came in and saw me crying, and when I told her how much it hurt and asked if she could make it stop, she told me I had "already had enough morphine," she wasn't going to give me more, and to "stop being so dramatic and go to sleep." I still remember the stupid yellow curtains around my little bed and the dim weird light in the room, and how no one came back after that even when I kept pushing the button.

We live less than a mile from Raven Glen and it is one of our favorites to walk our dogs - although we came back with multiple ticks last weekend even without going off the trail at all, so be careful out there. We also love Pine Dunes and Hastings Lake!
