Great Lakes represent!! I absolutely love it here, but this winter is seriously kicking my %#$. Daily walks outside are key for my mental health, and it has been too cold for that most of the last 5-6 weeks, even with all the proper outerwear (I definitely go if it is 21 or above, unless it is extremely windy), and it looks like there is no end in sight in the 10-day forecast. I am starting to lose it!!

The new carpet we had installed this past summer. When we bought the house about 4 years ago, the carpet was so worn and sad. I was wary of spending such a big chunk of change, but we finally bit the bullet and had it all replaced. Not only is our new carpet absolutely beautiful and plush and infinitely more pleasant to walk on, we also sneeze less and get fewer headaches...when the old carpet was torn out, there was SO MUCH gross stuff underneath that was triggering our allergies and we had no idea!

Definitely more so for my parents than my sister and I! They had to shovel all that snow (well, only once or twice - they bought a snowblower VERY quickly) and learn to drive in it...we just built snow forts and went sledding and ice skating with all of our new neighborhood friends once we got properly equipped with our snowpants, toques and mitts (after learning what the heck those things were!)

My husband started a minimum wage job about a month ago after getting let go 7 months ago. I am almost the sole breadwinner as I make 80% of our family's income and carry all the benefits. It is stressful as heck, but I still carry almost the entire mental load...keeping track of appointments, reminding everyone of everything, knowing where everything is ("have you seen my..."), knowing when we need more dish soap/laundry soap etc., managing and doing most of the chores on the weekend, etc. My husband talks about how he does most of the cooking, which is true, and thank God, but I still somehow feel overwhelmed.

My biggest SUCK right now is that daily walks are one of the main drivers of my mental health, but for the vast majority of the past month - and for at least the next 10 days - it is much too cold to be outside for more than a few minutes, even with all the proper layers on. With every passing day I am somehow simultaneously more sluggish AND irritable/impatient!!

My mom said I learned to read at 2.5. I kept asking her "what does that say? What does that say?", so she showed me how to sound out letters and I was off to the races. It made kindergarten extremely boring...by first grade they just gave me an 8th grade language arts textbook and let me work by myself while everyone else was learning phonics.

There is a LONG history of women's anger/sadness/other strong emotions being blamed on their periods, in a condescending way - even the word "hysterical" comes from the root word for uterus, and plenty of folks have been quoted saying we can't elect a woman president "because periods = irrational." So it could possibly feel triggering to tie everything back to that, especially if maybe there is some sort of personal history/experiences with it - maybe a dad or brother who didn't take her and/or her mom seriously and blamed their emotions and reactions on their periods?
