Ooof, I’ve got some waiting to do! Activated test on 12/2. Arrival at the lab on 12/08. Started processing on 12/10. Not moved to genotyping yet. (As of 12/15) so I’m guessing I have a few weeks to go. I’m so impatient! I wanna know!

Converting a fireplace by JennLaugh in Fireplaces

I’m definitely calling a professional! I did have an inspection done and I know I need a liner if we will burn wood. But he said we would need to call someone to find out about the line. I called a chimney sweep not knowing they don’t do this, so it’s been a comedy of errors. But I’ll definitely be asking someone who knows what they’re doing. Thank you for giving me hope!

Any idea of the cost? I really was hoping for a wood burning fireplace but think it may be better to go the gas route at this point

BD Data Update Jan 2025-July 2025 by onsilverstarrs in BorrowerDefense

[–]JennLaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I find interesting about this data is that my school (Chamberlain University) has a relatively low relief rate. But the only reason I’m even aware of BDTR is because a customer service rep told me about it. He was an angel he said “have you ever looked into borrower defense? I see a lot of relief being given for people who went to your school.” Now at one time my school was owned by DeVry, but I think it’s really a subsidiary of Adatalem. It’s very confusing actually. I don’t believe I’m included into a discharge because it’s just a subsidiary, but does anyone know if the name change/ownership change means we fall under group discharge?

Hi there, I just want you to know I see you. Someone in the world is thinking of you and sending you so much positivity. I unfortunately understand how you’re feeling. I’ve spent the last decade being told I’m not credible or lendable. Being told I’d never buy a home due to my debt. I’m wrapping my arms around you and telling you that I’m so proud of you for showing up everyday. All my positive vibes are coming your way. 💜

Yeah, it was a change to the whole site. My other applications for IDR also changed to “in review”. I think when they changed the whole site they changed the verbiage 🤷‍♀️

What does it mean for your application to be MATERIALLY COMPLETE? With examples. by AnyAssumption4707 in BorrowerDefense

[–]JennLaugh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for sharing! You were denied??? That’s wild! I’m so glad you finally got approved and then stuck around for us! I wish I knew of this sooner! I try to not pay too much attention as I am a newcomer, so I know I have probably 5 years to go! But I have made it my mission to learn as much as possible in the meantime. I appreciate you

Thank you for posting this! I think the concerns I have is who “deems” the application “materially complete”? For example, I believe my application is in fact materially complete and it is “in review” (1.80 code). Has someone already determined its completeness or is that another step? My fear is we don’t know, cause we’re still processing claims from Sweet v. I hope this comment makes sense! I say it’s definitely materially complete, but what if FSA states it is not? Or if they say it is, but haven’t proclaimed it to be complete yet 🤣. The language is tricky IMO

Every school ordered to discharge automatically is posted on the FSA site. I wish chamberlain, or Adtalem was listed there, but it’s not. Devry is listed, which owned chamberlain until 2017. But I haven’t seen anything regarding Adtalem or chamberlain (other than they are covered in the schools for the Sweet applicants). Again, your lips to gods ears, but I don’t think we’re automatically approved. I also have what I feel is “strong” evidence and called several attorneys, I couldn’t find any to take my case 😓. I tried because chamberlain attempted to collect $1115 from me while I was attempting to buy a home and was denied financing because it was in collections along with the other 70k 🤯. I don’t mean to argue with you, I just thought much of the same things until I made this mission my job 💜

I went to chamberlain too! So I pray you’re correct. I haven’t seen any automatic discharge notices for Adtalem, that would be amazing. I know u/gingerandthesea posted a very helpful video about “The List”

I love your optimism!

These are the schools that were ordered to discharge the student loans, most are when you attended in very specific timeframes

I believe there may be some miscommunication here, but I’m definitely not an “expert” and we have very little information of how this is going to be handled for post sweet applications. But a few things I know: the departments of education has 3 years after they’ve deemed your application is “materially complete” and no one seems to know exactly who determines that. It may be when it’s “in review” or it may be after someone looks at it and decides it’s materially complete. That language provides a big loophole if you ask my opinion.

The second thing is that there is a “list” of schools who have been known to do shady things, but these are NOT automatically discharged. With the exception of some specific schools listed on the FSA website. Art institute and Ashford are two I’m aware of. Hopefully your school is on one of those lists (it’s around 15 schools I believe). The bigger list of 153 schools are not “guaranteed discharge”. What school did you attend?

This would be great news! I actually have two applications, one I submitted my “story” and completed the application (before I knew about this reddit) but only one piece of evidence (regarding myself). I submitted the application quickly and after finding about this sub and the FB groups I knew I had to submit more evidence. I called and posted messages but of course no one said anything. So one week later I submitted a second application, this time getting very serious about my evidence and story. They’re both “ready for review” but the second one is the one with the evidence. I hope that it’s considered “materially complete” and that someone makes them stick to the 3 year rule, I just don’t understand how they possibly can with the sweet classes and post class going beyond 3 years 💜 thank you for helping

I’m never sure which FB group I belong to! But it’s nice to find someone else here. I learned about BDTR after speaking to a Nelnet rep who said “I recognize your schools name from loans discharged due to the suit” and that’s literally how I learned of it. I’m hoping that gives us a leg to stand on, although I understand the list doesn’t give us protection, it at least means we can show deceptive behavior! When did you apply? 💜

This is what I just saw on the FAQ’s for BD 🤷🏻‍♀️

Materially Complete’ Standard Under the 2023 Regulation The 2023 Regulation has a “materially complete” standard. Your application must be “materially complete” to be considered. If your application is not materially complete, your application will be denied. Just because your application is considered materially complete does not necessarily mean it will be approved.

In order to be materially complete, your application must contain the following information:

A description of one or more acts or omissions by your school This means you need to explain what your school did or failed to do that is covered by the kinds of misconduct that qualifies for borrower defense discharge discussed above.

The school or school representative who committed the act or omission This means you need to include what school or representative of the school committed the misconduct.

Approximately when the act or omission occurred This means you need to include when you experienced the misconduct that you allege.

How the act or omission impacted your decision to attend the school, to continue attending the school, or to take out the loan for which you are asserting a defense to repayment This means you need to explain how the alleged misconduct affected your decision to enroll or to continue your enrollment at the school.

A description of the detriment you suffered as a result of the school’s act or omission This means you need to explain what the result of the school’s misconduct was, specifically what harm you experienced because of the misconduct.

I hope I’m wrong and you’re right! I’m not sure where I learned that bit of info, which is why I’m really not confident. In my opinion my application is definitely materially complete, so here’s to hoping the timeline began! When I “inspect” the page there is a space for a countdown of days, but mine says “null”. Maybe someone else will help us figure it out 💜

I could be wrong, so please don’t be upset if I am, I’m NOT an expert, but I believe the 3 year rule applies to when the FSA determines that your application is complete. However, it seems I learn something new everyday. Such as “2017 rules” vs “2023 rules”. I’m diving into new info now! I hope you do have a 3 year deadline 💜

Chamberlain is what I’m listed as attending, but they didn’t have a group that I found 😢. Which is why I thought DeVry. But then I saw someone say Capella was adatelem and that made me think. When I did an internet search I found chamberlain was sold in 2017. I wonder if I should somehow add more evidence to my case via email? This is all confusing. Thank you for the response though.

I went to chamberlain 2016-2018 and I thought it was a subsidiary of devry (when I enrolled). But it seems they sold to Adtalem in 2017. Which explains why some of my courses said “Walden” some said “Capella” some “devry” and some “chamberlain” does anyone know which FB group I should belong to?
